I saw the cupliance as a stand-in for drug and alcohol which dull your inhibitions makes you more accepting of doing stupid shit you would not normally do. So it doesn't make you compliant it makes you more suceptible and drowzy.

If you drink the compliance then was there really any point in drinking it?

I took it as a take on the road to success. A bit on anti-consumerism but the most interesting was as an allegory to the road to success.
I think it is a meh episode. The message(s) is fine but the actual way to convey it doesn't do much effort. The dialogue is tailored to the message not the setting. The characters are barebone. Also it borders to much on preachy in my opinion. The last 10 minutes are better but really the road to it is terribly dull and just decent.
The Abi porn thing should have been a real porn thing or one like you her in the bed and someone a naked man coming to her in the back or something. I'm sure there's way to evoke real porn without having to use tits and ass. But that mouth thing was to casual especially when he is in the room with no choice but to watch.
Good acting from the guy in Get Out tho.

Regarding the title. A black mirror is something you can find on any desk, in any living room, in any hand. The cold, glossy screen of a monitor, tv, or smartphone. The screen, like this show, portrays a dark reflection of ourselves. After every episode, you're left with a brief black screen, so the last thing we see before the credits roll is our selves.

Compare this show to Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, et cetera. Those shows LITERALLY sometimes ended with preachy messages...but that didn't ruin the episode. All of those episodes came to a point as well, and were on the nose, and were BRILLIANT. Black Mirror isn't trying to be something "important." It literally holds up a "dark mirror" to our lives/world, and asks, "what do you see?" Fun and entertaining, but sometimes disturbing to me.

"Very on the nose," is not really an applicable criticism here, Rick, since they were going for a direct parallel between this world and ours. Subtlety is not always a measure of quality; sometimes themes can be broadcast right in your face when the prerogative of a story is a characters journey and not thematic world-building - it's great if you can do both, but the parallels between fiction and reality can be handled explicitly if it has a greater impact on the characters journey.
