Interesting/funny side note, if you watch Castle, there are some Firefly references in there. Hell, there's a whole episode that takes pot-shots at the show. All in good fun, of course. :P

Hey, don't know if anyone else has brought it up but you guys should react to the "R. Tam Sessions" feature from the Serenity DVD, preferably before the movie if possible. It's only about 8 minutes but it's an interesting extra bit of story showing River's time at the academy before the series started.

The editor put in the video that the guy was the warden from flash, so I’m sure the editor told Eric.

Interesting fact: originally Joss Whedon intended this episode to take place between War Stories and Trash, but later decided it summed up the series and was best placed as the finale. This explains some inconsistencies (such as Jayne calling River a mind-reading genius in The Message), but the scene with Mal and Inara at the beginning always confused me. I just learned, though, that there was an alternate scene in that place, where instead of talking about Inara leaving, they talk about how Inara can't get any clients (basically the same conversation that takes place near the beginning of Trash
Jubal Early is one of, if not my favorite one off character in any show ever (though I'm 100% convinced that had the show kept going, he would have somehow survived and would be back). Early, and the episode in general, is influenced by the existentialist work of Sartre. Oh, and someone should tell Eric that he probably recognizes Early as the warden from last season on The Flash

People, my wife included, wonder why this is still clung to so vehemently by fans and after your reaction I still maintain that the reason is simple. It was so brilliantly good and so many possible stories to be told and was cut so very very short (even considering the movie) that is could be easily considered no less than a tragedy to the fiction/sci-fi genre as a whole. The comics and novels are a nice filler, but we just needed a little more... two full seasons, maybe even three? If the quality maintained, then it would never capture the full scope of this universe, but at least we could say it had a good run... at least we could say it had a chance.
That being said, even though I love these actors... this is once show that I would gladly reboot for that possibility to tell more stories in that universe. A retelling could never do what the old crew achieved but maybe they could do some justice to that world... and mostly, keep Serenity flyin'.

Also, thanks to Alan Wong for absolutely NAILING the editing in this series!

Funny that you mention science fiction and the word “Aliens,” because if you look closely at the gun turret Mal uses in the opening war scene in Serenity, at the top of the aiming screen it says “Weyland Yutani” and displays the WY logo, aka the “Corporation” from Aliens, which according to Aliens lore went on to forge its own Allied government, and Earth eventually becomes too polluted so everyone has to find new planets. Sound familiar? :) Since Joss Whedon helped write a version of the Alien:Resurrection script, he always imagined Firefly taking place in a solar system in the same universe as Aliens and Predator (fellow Fox properties.) There’s also a MASSIVE Easter egg connection in the film Serenity, but I don’t want to spoil anything whatsoever. It’s just some fun on Joss Whedon’s part, but I’m a sucker for that kinda stuff :) Thank you for reacting to this series, and I hope you enjoy Serenity, Eric! It’s...well...it’s basically absolutely fantastic.

Yep. Fox cancelled the show so quickly, they didn't even bother airing 3 episodes at all. They were viewed for the first time when the series came to DVD. Does that seem right to you?

The show ran half a season. Would have been another 8-10 episodes to season one. Joss Wheden said the movie was season 2 condensed.

To answer a question, yes star wars sci fi was in the Firefly universe. In 7 episodes (apparently) in the background there is a figurine of Han Solo frozen in carbonite. https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8rzTtKUDtUk/UopylYmU58I/AAAAAAAARoU/YngMfq4OaZU/s1600/the-message-han-solo-in-firefly.jpeg

While it would be great, it would also be a long commitment (almost 3 years). Not to mention once they get to season 4, they should overlap it with Angel. I'm not saying they SHOULDN'T do it, but it would be difficult... On the other hand, Dollhouse is a much more compact show (one that would take half a year). A much more reasonable endeavor, and the one I'm personally advocating for the most
2018-09-01 20:47:02 +0000 UTC
Yeah Firefly aired the year Buffy was in it's final season. You know, Buffy that Joss Whedon show apparently none of you have seen. It would be so great if you guys would watch it. I know you'd all love it since you like well-written, character driven shows that give you a lot to discuss. Please?

Just gonna say thank you guys for doing this series, I remember being so hyped when fox announced it that I waited till 1 am just to watch the first episode, but once I heard it got cancelled I got depressed and stopped watching. That was until I saw you guys were reacting to it, I though this is my chance and now it has became my favorite series ever. Again thank you guys #FireBi
