"Other forms of faster than light travel in sci-fi generally are not possible (i.e. riding cosmic strings, travelling in superspace/hyperspace, etc...)"
Umm... Subspace/hyperspace/etc is a real concept? And just as likely as being able to make functional warp drives?
Think of the universe as a balloon. The quickest way between any two points is through the subspace that is the inside of the balloon.

Just a side point about your conversation at the end about different sci-fi. Warp drive is an actual theoretical thing. It would take a crazy amount of energy, but according to current understanding of how the universe works, a warp drive is completely possible. Other forms of faster than light travel in sci-fi generally are not possible (i.e. riding cosmic strings, travelling in superspace/hyperspace, etc...)
So not only is it likely that if we ever develop FTL, it will be called warp drive, but if we ever develop FTL it will likely actually BE a warp drive. (if you are interested, there are many papers and stuff written about this, and a few news stories covered it as well because of the connection to star trek).

This right here is my favorite episode. Like Calvin said, I love how it's crafted with the 3 different time axes, woven together so masterfully

There's another hint in the first episode too. The syringe she goes for when the Reavers come up on them. Arguably the reaction to her client saying he can't imagine ever wanting to leave Sihnon is another hint

This episode remind me Fragments from Torchwood season 2(the one we didn't get a reaction to). The crew is in an impossible situation and as they are trying to solve it you get to discover how they came to be part of the team.

Kaylee told Mal to relpace the crappy compression coil in the first episode was the same part that broke in this episode catalyzer on the port compression coil.

It would be fun if they did the gag reel after they're done like they did with FMA:B

You asked a great question about Inara. That wasn't the only reason and the fans didn't find out until about 10 years after the show was cancelled. I won't tell because It's sort of spoilery even though they never answered it in the show or the movie. She leaves about the only clue in this episode even though other episodes ask that question you did. It just shows how much potential was left out when they cancelled this series :( It actually gives you a new perspective on her in the show.

It's like getting your first car. It's your first love. Getting that beat up convertible because to you it has character and you can see the possibility.
