Wow, Eric, that was really cool what you said about "Halfdan was here", 'cause it is actually a true thing :-) https://thornews.com/2014/06/26/viking-graffiti-in-hagia-sophia-halvdan-carved-these-runes/ The scene is a reference to the real runes that were found. So many easter eggs in this episode. Also the scene where Aethelwulf yells at Headmund, Headmund bows before his "King of kings", which is also what Jesus is called. So is he really kneeling for Aethelwulf, or only to his true leader? Such a cool episode. Especially loved the Halfdan runes.

Well, I don't know about Islamic leaders but Vikings definitely became bodyguards and mercenaries (Varangian guard) for the Eastern Roman empire/Byzantines who called themselves Romans. So you could say that in a way, they met.

Romans and vikings never met! The roman empire/western empire collapsed centuries before vikings went raiding and exploring. Vikings did become body guards and mercenaries, for Islamic leaders in the middle east and eastern Mediterranean. Also the pillars of Hercules are natural formations, one being the rock of Gibraltar and the other a mountain in north africa at the entrance to the Mediterranean.
