If Rem had killed the guy who was supposed to write in the Notebook and after 13 days died, she still would have been extending Misa's life and therefore killing herself. Killing L is the best chance of making sure she lives a long time.

The feet washing is an allusion to the Last Supper. Jesus washed the disciples' feet including Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. L is the messianic character in the story.

I was always a bit disappointed with how L met his end. The show does go downhill after this but there are still some cool moments here and there, I think it's worth watching it till the end.

I loved Calvin's disappointed thinking face the entire discussion. I definitely relate to him the most on this. Plus his almost peeve/reaction need to be analytically correct about what L meant when Eric said what he said. Total STEM major thinking XD.

I'm not one of the people saying you should end here. However, you should follow up Death Note with Death Parade. It's not long, is very good, and is heavily implied to take place in the same universe as Death Note.

Light may have killed L, but that doesn't mean he won. Keep watching. The rest of the show definitely isn't as tense, but L's presence is still felt, all the way up to the end of the series.

I can't remember, did L say he would tell them who the prisoner would be? If he kept that secret then Rem and them wouldn't be able to stop the test.

They should react to L's funeral scene, it was cut from the show but is awesome, its dubbed as well. They (Shane and Eric especially) will love it. and shows how fargone and evil Light has become.

this is were i truly hated light so much, i know this is were the series was headed since epsiode 2 but its so upsetting, L truly thought of light as a friend and its so sad :,(

I like to believe that L's thoughts were probs wavering on whether or not his deduction skills HAD been wrong all this time... But after retrieving the book and reading the rules, seeing Rem and looking back at everything up til that point, it reaffirmed his belief that he was right. Unfortunately, he also realizes that he, indeed, had lost the battle and it was only a matter of time til his death. The manga, as pointed out already, even has him muttering (or thinking to himself) "Light it was you...I knew it.... I was right" or something like that after seeing Light smirking down on him. The 'peaceful' passing, seemed to me that getting the confirmation he was right about everything concerning LIght and MIsa, was enough to accept this battle defeat. At least that's how I always took it. :) I think season 2 is crazier and much more 'action-y' but season 1 with L is just so much more intense and compelling. I hope you guys enjoy it because it isn't bad, it's just... I've rewatched season 1 more times than I can count but only season 2 a handful of times (the ending is fantastic, I will say) Great reaction I am happy you guys took the L washing his feet scene and understood the point of reference, it's vague but has that ominous solemnity I believe it meant to carry. I've been waiting for this episode since the start of this series lol.

Agreed. It's absolutely one of the best finales I think I've ever seen. Studio Madhouse...I don't know how they do it...:)

I honestly lost a lot of interest in this show after L died. It just doesn't seem like as much of a battle-of-wits anymore. Although the series finale definitely makes up for any complaints I have... It's soooooooo fucking good :)

There's always one of these comments at this point, even if most people disagree.

L knew that Light was Kira ever since the potato chip episode. It was a gut feeling that he got from hearing Light talk (challenge him) directly through the camera. This whole time L was trying to prove what he knew was right, which is why he knew that Light had won in this episode and realized his death was coming.

We are done with the part the manga done better. We will now begin the part the anime does better. Sadlyit is also the part I'm not really interested in.

The 13 days thing wouldn't work because, Wattari could have done it in a controlled environment. Multiple agents could do it simultaneously with different criminals in multiple places. Each just a page. I doubt Rem could find 15 people out of 7 billion in 13 days. Even if they don't have death dates.
