2017-09-21 18:47:39 +0000 UTCI am not an expert, but I think it is important to remember that Norse culture at this time was not a feudal system like in England and France. From what I understand it was much closer to a tribal system, The Norse might have had "kings" but they weren't really like the Kings in England. Power was shared much more heavily among the different Jarls, a king didn't wield absolute power. That is why Ragnar doesn't really have to listen to Horik. Horik only outranks Ragnar superficially.
