Doctor Who S1 Finale Reaction Early Access!

"The Parting of the Ways"

Doctor Who S1 Finale Reaction Early Access!

Comments

There is a cross over kinda between the doctor spin off shows but its in Doctor Who and you do not have to watch torchwood to get it.

Adar

Are they going to watch "children in need" at the start of the next episode? I only ask because they talked about doing the mini-sodes in this reaction

Kevin Jimenez

Torchwood season 1 is after season2 of Doctor Who and before 3x10.

R

I'm assuming you simply forgot that shows backstory? (Eurgh, I hate having to be vague.)

Yunru

Torchwood is an anagram of doctor who. When karen Gillan auditioned she was told it was for panic moon which was an anagram of companion.

"Beach wood". 😂😂 Broadchurch is a great watch. So good. But very intense. If you want to see more of Eccleston he was recently in an HBO series called The Leftovers that's by Damon Lindelof. Also a very intense series worth a watch.

Dababa

Yes

TbcAlex

so, will "The Christmas Invasion" be reacted to next?

But it's such a tiny thing. I'm sure you guys wouldn't consider it as a spoiler if you knew what it was so please react to Torchwood :)

Torchwood doesn't have any DR Who spoilers it just references DR Who but not in a way that spoils any plot points for DR Who. There is a tiny thing which I don't see as a spoiler but it alludes to something in DR Who in episode 13 of series 1 and if you want to avoid it watch series 1 episode 13 of Torchwood after series 3 episode 11 of DR Who

yassss tennant!

Watch all the Christmas episodes - they are sequential and fit into the series timeline and often with purpose. Having a rewatch as I mentioned before and I was very affected by this episode (if not by as much as end of season 2). I've never seen the minisodes and have never felt out of the loop, so they're not necessary. I enjoyed Torchwood. Love Barrowman in anything but yeah, liked that show. So loved Eric's reaction to the Daleks exterminating him!! 😂

Leah Tumilty

They should REALLY watch the ''Doctor Who Children in need 2005 special'' Then they together with Rose can react to his new change. It's only 5-7 minutes long

Simontdk1

For a minute I thought they were going to skip The Christmas Invasion since it being deemed a Christmas special could imply it is an outlier from the main story.

IrishNexus

AND HERE IT IS. First off, props to Lono for the editing on this one. That was great. And also hilarious a lot of the time. AND we get like 35 minutes of discussion? That's amazing. First time I saw this episode, I cried floods. Like, I don't know what it was at the time, but I'd grown really really attached to Eccleston as the Doctor, and I didn't want to see him go. It's not even a particularly sad moment, but it still gets me. I love this regeneration a lot though. It's him accepting it as a consequence of saving not some big civilisation or ending some war but of saving Rose. I love that. I agree on the interpretation that Bad Wolf is this combination of Rose and the TARDIS. I really like that one. Eric being upset when Jack died was also pretty hilarious, at least with knowing he comes back. I guess we like to see you guys suffer. I'm pretty sure I teared up rewatching this with the crew, but I think I saw Calvin tear up too, and perhaps even Shane. Doctor Who has started dragging us down in to emotional torture already. Great. I'd love it if you guys watched Torchwood, whichever way you think is best (though of course I'm biased and would rather have both Torchwood and Doctor Who going at the same time but oh well). I think Torchwood starts sometime after s2, but I'm sure Lono can check that out. But yes, there are some crossovers between the shows. (Also, Calvin stopped watching Torchwood halfway through s3?! That must have been difficult, considering.) The Sarah Jane Adventures would be fun as well, because then I could actually get around to watching those, but I don't know if they'd be Blind Wave's thing? About the minisodes, again, I'm biased, because I have some of them I really love. They're not necessary, per say, (except possibly The Night of the Doctor, but even that you can do without), but it's good fun. That being said, I don't think you have to see every single prequel to the episodes they did in like, s6. But that's a while away. I guess the ones I'd pick out would be: Born Again, Time Crash, Space, Time, Pond Life, the Night and the Doctor shorts, and the 50th prequel Night of the Doctor. They're almost all on youtube, so they're easily accessible. But I think Lono can be a good judge of which ones would fit, if any. And I've probably missed some that someone else thinks is absolutely essential. :P Doctor Who fans can never agree on anything. Back to the episode, I really love this one. I think the dramatic stakes are well done, and even if the Doctor triumphs in the end, there's still consequences throughout all of it. But I like that it ends on hope (except for Jack, poor guy). And the Doctor's line, "So was I!". He was indeed. He was the reason I got into Doctor Who to begin with, his mannerism, that ridiculously big smile. That being said, I can't wait for you guys to start watching Tennant. I think you're going to have a blast with him, and with Doctor Who in general. I never realized how very young he is here! It's so strange seeing that. Also, damn Eric. With your predictions. There were a few of them here, one in particular that I had to pause the video at. Guys, is Eric secretly a time lord? Where is his TARDIS? That was eery. Also, I would LOVE for you guys to go back and watch some Classic Who, as Calvin talked about. There's some really interesting stuff there and I think you'd enjoy it. I'm pretty sure I know what Tom Baker adventures Calvin was referring to, and that would be a lot of fun to watch you guys react to. Can't wait for Christmas next week. Gonna be a lot of snow. Let's hope. Christmas in July. Looking forward to it.

JojoInSpace

well the doctor kind of showed up off screen

Eroda

What does even mean, "Started out good but then went a bit gay"? 'gay' is not a measure of quality or a synonym of something bad, "but then they focused too much in bad wroten relationships" or "but then some characters started to be a little annoying", if that's what you are trying to say.

Christian MH

When Eric made The Lion King reference omg just wait for next episode lol

Bob Parker

I know Torchwood appears in Doctor Who but not the other way around I think

Also all the minsodes are on youtube i believe they are only like 5 minutes long. The minisode that picks up right after this is pretty good and i woild say is the most essential of the minisodes, so i would watch that if you can

Jon Dub

And yes doctor who and Torchwood do cross over a few times.

Jon Dub

Awesome reaction!! Also I second watching Broadchurch, Tennant is phenomenal and it's just such a damn good show!!

Mark McKeown

O.K. Guys The Doctors from start to last last not being least important. William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Ecoleston, David Tennant, Mat Smith, Peter Capaldi. All were really good as the Doctor. Torchwood started out good, but then went a bit gay. But you see a lot of that in Game of Thrones anyway so after Torchwood season's 1 & 2 is the children of earth & Miracle Day. And don't forget The Sarah Jane Smith stories.

StevenBrown

My first was 9 but my favorite is 10.

Mythmaker

If you watch Torchwood do yourselves a favor and just watch seasons 1&2 and Children of Earth. Then just stop watching. Do not watch Miracle Day. I repeat DO NOT watch Miracle Day. It is the absolute worst. Especially after how good Children of Earth was.

Cheyenne Hacker

Your first doctor is often your favorite...

Fajen Thygia

T O R C H W O O D -> D O C T O R W H O

P.A. Master

Ha! When someone said "The Captain Jack adventures!" during the discussion about Torchwood, I misheard it as "The Captain Jack Avengers!" I just had a huge smile and thought "Kind of a random thing to guess, but you're not too far off!"

Ragnarok

This really is the simplest way to experience it all in the order, as it was intended, and without accidentally spoiling yourself for something here or there.

ScarlettMi

Wonder if they are goong to do the red nose eps. They are small and meaningless, but can be fun. This season's is just more Tennent, but season 3's is awesome!!!!!!

Anthony Wickizer

Ha. When Erik, at the beginning, said "Last time there was a whole lotta fuckin dogs," I made a strange face and went "I DO NOT REMEMBER THIS!!!"

Ragnarok

Though it might have been for Children in Need. Can't remember.

Dark Soul

Watch the little extra scene that was made for Red Nose day that shows what happened before The Christmas Special.

Dark Soul

I really hope not. I love Emma, but she does not fit the role of the Doctor.

MasterPoppers

Hope you guys get around to the classics one day

Dominic D

Torchwood starts right after series 2 of Doctr Who, that's really the only thing you need to know at this point.

Great reactions.

Yeah, make sure you watch the Christmas specials between seasons. They are essentially just additional episodes, and each episode builds on everything that's happened previously. There's also a little bit of crossover between TW and Who.

Star Stormer

Now we start with the really good stuff, the competition for the best Doctor is usually lead by the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) and the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant)

Christian MH

EMMA WATSON AS THE DOCTOR PLEASE

Jacob Leach

Broadchurch is a fantastic and dark show

Ryan Witalison

You guys are gonna love DT

Torchwood!

texasviking

These reactions are pretty much what I live for

MailDude

There is a mini attached to the Day of the Doctor's 50th episode that shows how classic Doctor Who bridged the gap to this NuWho.

Cody Enos

Did Eric really quote Lion King? And that specific *song* from Lion King? That's hilarious! Y'all know why. If you want to watch Torchwood and Doctor Who in the order they came out, the order is: Doctor Who Season 2 Torchwood S1E1-11 Doctor Who Christmas Special #2 Torchwood S1E12-13 Doctor Who Season 3 Doctor Who Christmas Special #3 Torchwood Season 2 Doctor Who Season 4 Doctor Who Christmas Special #4 Doctor Who Spring Special Torchwood Season 3 Doctor Who Fall Special Doctor Who Christmas Special #5 Doctor Who Season 5 Doctor Who Christmas Special #6 Doctor Who S6E1-7 Torchwood S4E1-8 Doctor Who S6E8 Torchwood S4E9 Doctor Who S6E9 Torchwood S4E10 (series finale) Doctor Who S6E10-present.

Jen A. Blue

And Bad Wolf is Rose not the TARDIS

Adele

I always felt even though each actor brings something different to the table the core character of the doctor always remained the same (The modern series anyway) , which is why I kept watching even though they regenerated. I remember when David left and I told myself I was done, I didn't want a new doctor, but I ended up watching Matt's first few episodes and being won over because he was still The Doctor, and The Doctor is a character I love and will always be here for.

fireangellc

You have to watch Torchwood AFTER season 2. Torchwood is a major plot point of season 2

Adele

If you want to watch torchwood alongside doctor who you can follow this guide: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/watch-doctor-who-viewing-guide-perfect-order/

Mark Ryan

Eccelston's run was good, but this is when Dr. Who really sucked me in. The writing just gets better. The continuity becomes so in-depth you need to pay very close attention to everything happening. Oh what a journey your about go on fellas, can't wait to see how you enjoy the next few seasons!!

Andrew Courtney

Season 1 Finale of Torchwood leads into Episode 11 of Series 3 of Doctor Who.

Edward Harney Jr

finally, time for my favorite doctor! though after rewatching it by proxy of you guys I've come to appreciate eccleston a lot more than I did in my original run. I still maintain that the best stuff is during the tennant era but damn the 9th was a good doctor

Zane

netflix is good for doctor who because it has all the specials in order cause if you miss any specials you will be missing parts of the story

Billz0maddic

I'm also pretty sure that the Heart of the Tardis and the Time Vortex are two seperate things.

Yunru

Torchwood starts after season 2.

Yunru

Torchwood: Think of Doctor Who type stories, but ONLY happening on the planet Earth. So, no time-travel, so space-episodes..etc.etc. KEY NOTE: The Maid from the episode with Charles Dickens plays a lead character (As a cop) in Torchwood.

Herrzimm

torchwood dont start till like after season 2 or 3 of doctor who

Billz0maddic

The last doctor before Eccelston's last episode was a made-for-TV movie and he was still alive at the end of it as it was meant to revitalize the series even back then Also they left Jack so he could star in a spin-off series.

Kevin Bartelen

Australasia is a real place now. It's the continent where Indonesia and Australia are.

Jake Beaumont

Eccleston was great, but this is where the show really begins! 🔥 🔥 🔥

Able

Yes! Great! Tennant looks so young O.O

Cody Enos

OH YEAH!!!

AnnoyingRanter

Woo!! Excited for this.

Marlene Beltran
