Toph and Bumi have fought in the past and the fight was a draw, bare in mind that bumi is over 100 years old and still kicking it, he is way past his prime and even so he has proven that he is more powerful than any earthbender, non avatar that is, that has appeared on the show.

toph dueled king buumi and they were pretty much even until they were stopped cuz it was too loud, but at the time toph was still only 12, as an old lady just her seismic sense was so powerful that by also using the vines she kept tabs on her daughters from across the world, so tldr as a child shes on the same level as buumi, but as an adult just would probably destroy him

You also have to consider the age difference here. Boomy has had decades to perfect Earth Bending. However, Toph is just a kid and she is very powerful as well. If you aren't adding age to how you are comparing them, then I think Boomy wins but, if age is a factor, then Toph is the clear winner. Plus she can metal bend. I can only imagine what she will be like in 10 or 20 years...

Boomy is probably more "powerful". Hell, he even straight-up says that he's the most powerful earthbender they'd ever meet. Toph is powerful and skilled, but she can't bend a whole city like he did.

It definitely is a hard choice because they are both definitely skilled earth benders, however since this is mainly about earthbending Tophs metal bending must be thrown out because that only makes her the greatest earth bender not the strongest. I believe boomy would win because of his many years of experience remember he is also 100 years old like Ang and would probably figure out Toph uses vibrations to see and predict opponents movements especially since earthbending is a very stand still strength type of fighting Toph has an advantage, however Boomy if you recall is extremely quick and light on his feet after all he went toe to toe with Ang and he was already a master airbender Boomy would probably use Tophs vibrational sight against her and move in a way that makes it seem he's moving one way and attack another catching Toph off guard.

Good question, I have to give it to Boomy. Toph is very close, and I think she has the potential to surpass Boomy. As others have said, she clearly has superior control, senses, etc. The question, however, is about power. Being 12 or however-old, I think she's limited in her sheer power by her small body. An adult body, I think, would allow for more powerful Earthbending, at the top level of bending skill.

I think the thing that cements Toph as stronger is the scene when they attack the Earth Kings Palace and Toph flips the floor slabs, creates those rotating shields to block attacks, and flattens the stairs of the palace. I don't see Bumi having that level of control.

But if you remember, Bumi is the one who told Aang to find an earthbender who has that ability; a teacher who "waits and listens". So the technique of using earth bending to predict an opponent's movements (neutral Jing) is not unique to Toph. Toph just learned it early because she is blind.

Toph is the greatest earth bender, but Bumi is the strongest. Toph is amazing don't get me wrong, but Bumi is able to bend even without his arms and has lifted some pretty huge things too.

I think that boomy is stronger, but Toph is better because she sees movement from the earth and can predict what her opponent will do. When she was in the arena, you could see her knowing what they were going to do next.

I think Toph might be stronger but Bumi have more refined skill and experience. But to be honest, I change my opinion on this a lot. :P

Lol it really depends on your view point Bumi is much older and has been bending at least since he was a kid when he met Aang. But Toph is amazing at earth bending, metal bending, and if you remember in Sozin's Comet Prt 1, she has been working on her sandbending. Then again we've only seen Bumi use earth bending.

Toph seems to have much greater precision and *skill* than Bumi, and at such a young age. We can already see the peak of Bumi's power, while Toph is only beginning to tap into hers. You see, crew of Blind Wave, you aren't dealing with the average earth bender anymore...

Currently: Bumi + More Experience (He's past 100 years old and has immense battle knowledge) + More Raw Power (He chucks buildings like toys lol, Toph has potential in the future though). Toph + Innate Skill (Living with blindless makes her other senses heightened + More Potential (Metal Bending is still a new skill that needs to explored). I would say Toph would be more powerful in another decade or so.

I think that Bumi has more power and definitely has more experience than Toph. The Gaang are really young and haven't really realised their potential yet (which is a terrifying thought). Bumi has experience going for him. Years and years of training. If Toph had the same amount of time to strengthen her powers, I think it makes sense that she would out class Bumi by leagues.

I think Bumi has more raw power, however if they were to fight I'd give it to Toph, she has better technique and has her earthsense. There's a short comic where they fight to see who's the better earthbender but everyone else stops them because they were going to destroy everything.

Bumi is 112 years old, he has literally a century of experience over the 12 year old Toph (this also adds on to Eric's point, Obi-Wan beats Anakin because of experience, not because of prowess or talent). Metalbending is an advanced form of earth bending, like shooting lighting is to fire bending. Toph has more implied potential than Bumi.

Toph is the one who uses neutral jin she waits and listens. Neutral jin is the key to earth bending, and while Bumi used it when taking back Omashu they both use it in very different ways, however Toph used it more. Also their bending styles are very different and the creators of the show have talked quite a bit about Tophs bending style and how it is different to other styles of earth bending.

You can't really compare the two because they both use different styles of earth bending. Toph uses a very unique style of earth bending while Bumi uses a more traditional style of earth bending. When it comes down to it they are both the best of their particular style of earth bending. One isn't better than the other they are equals.

If we're talking power as in 'who can lift the biggest rock?' Then clearly Bumi, but if we're talking power as in 'who can do more?' Then Toph. I think it's too hard to really say who is better because while yes, seismic sense and metalbending give Toph a HUGE advantage, Bumi is unbelievably strong and CRAZY. Who's to say he couldn't outwit Toph in a battle?

Bumi is a traditional Earthbender, a very powerful one at that. Toph is nontraditional Earthbender, extremely powerful in her own way. Out of the two, I would give the advantage to Toph simply because she has a larger arsenal of moves to go to then Bumi.

We have to remember their styles are very different, and King Boomy is not always that powerful, remember his talk with team Avatar about positive and negative jin? Well Boomey uses neutral Jin, think of it as that 1 time in a hundred, like the Waterbender's full moon or the Firebender's Comet...he is not always THAT powerful, or at least we have never seen him that powerful outside of his neutral jin being at its peak. On the flip side, Toph never really tells us her style...and we have seen her do some crazy stuff regardless of Jin, so While I think Boomey may have been more powerful in that one moment, I think Toph is more well rounded and balanced, making her more powerful.

Staying within the parameters of the question, clearly it's Boomie. Toph is gifted in the fact that she can metal bend--hell she is the creator of it. But in raw plain earthbending power, Boomie wins out as he has shown when he took back his city. Though, again you are comparing a twelve year old little girl to a grown man. As gifted as Toph is now, I can totally see her surpassing Boomie in the future.

Depends how you define powerful. It terms of raw brute strength, maybe Bumi, ergo see how he reclaimed Omashu single-handedly. But even then, Toph's seismic sense enables her to develop her earthbending in a way Bumi never could, hence being able to invent metalbending. So they both have their own merits but in different ways.

I don't think people are realizing how genuinely impressive it is for Toph to have held up that library for all that time. Out of this whole thing we only see the topmost spire, and even that was over twice the size of Appa. And in comparing that spire to the rest of the building I think its safe to say that Wan Shi Tong's Library is at least equal to the size of Omashu, if not bigger. So the fact that Toph was able to hold it up for as long as she did speaks volumes about how powerful she is. Bumi may have shown some impressive earthbending during that eclipse, but nothing he lifted was anywhere close to the size of that library.

Bumi has years of experience and has more raw power, but Toph is a prodigy. She was trained by Badger Moles and uses her Earthbending senses to survive every single day. The fact that she was the first person to Metalbend also should give her that title. Toph is probably the most powerfull Earthbender the world has ever known.

Spoilers: They tied in a canon comic. But Toph is still only 11 and was able to tie a hundred year old master. She is better, or will be far better.

Bumi has experience, but Toph was trained by Badger moles and is literally connected to the earth like no other. Her actual bending style is based on a different real world martial art than every other earth bender. Aang gets taught her unique style. She is also now an expert sand bender as well. She is so in tune with earth she was able to discover metal bending by herself. Ultimately, Toph is better. Especially in the eyes of the fans. Though one of the canon comics (you should read them) has them fight each other for fun. The library feat is way better than anything Bumi has done. She literally held a building that was so tall you could not see the floor from sinking. That library was bigger than the US capital building. It only had about 20 meters of spire sticking out. She kept it from sinking for like 10 minutes and the spire barely moved. As soon as she let go it flew into the ground. She has insane power. But also remember, Toph is a 12 year old girl and is already rivaling a hundred year old master. Her potential is through the roof and way higher than Bumi's. The creators ultimately said, since they both use 2 completely different styles (Bumi uses a traditional style, Toph uses her own) that both of them are the best at each and are equal in a fight at this point in the show. The comic about this confirms. A 12 year old prodigy is already equal to a 112 year old master. Toph is awesome.

It's similar to the question of who's more powerful between Anakin and Palpatine. Palpi and Bumi have age and experience, but in terms of raw power and potential, the answer is always Anakin and Toph. It's not "who would win", it's "who is more powerful".

I'd say at the time this series is set, as much as I LOVE Toph, I'd have to hand it to Bumi in terms of power, firstly due to his age, he has a ton of experience with earthbending, and has been shown to lift the same weight (the statue of Ozai) as Toph when she held up the library. Give her a few years to grow and become more powerful then its Toph hands down.

With his power and experience Bumi can beat her but in terms of raw power and potential Toph is definitely more powerful

Bumi is more powerful and agile as we've seen him incorporate general strength into his bending, however, Toph is far more skilled and would ultimately win as she can predict her opponent's moves the moment their muscles move. She waits and listens unlike Bumi which is something he himself says is a better skill to have than throwing muscles around. Bumi, us at that point more experienced and powerful, however in terms of raw power I feel when Toph grows up to her prime she will be greater than Bumi ever was. I'd also like to point out that metal bending is a technique not a measurement of power, she just so happens to be gifted enough in that sense that she was able to invent it.

King Bumi is definitely powerful, he has also had an entire lifetime to become so. Toph is 12 and already his match she was powerful enough to hold up the library, defeat all of the earthbenders in ba sing she, and turned a massive staircase into a slide without breaking a sweat, not to mention she invented metal bending. Combine all this with her unmatched understanding of the way earthbending works and she quickly supercedes Bumi in all areas except 1 and that is experience. He's been alive and fighting for over 100 years and all that time has given him power and confidence. Toph because metalbending requires finding the smallest amounts of earth left in metal. Even though Bumi pretty much moved half a city, Toph obvioulsy has the strongest connection to the earth of anyone we've ever seen or will see. Once you find out where her story goes in between this and Korra, it's a no-brainer.
