That's a good theory but the time lines don't add up. Huma was a young lady when she escaped.

No, they haven't killed anyone intentionally. Good speculation on blood bending, but it was in fact a full moon.

The problem for Aang being expected to kill the fire Lord is that he was raised as a monk. His whole upbringing has been about peace and tranquility, and then as the avatar his purpose is to bring balance and, again, peace. Even if has has killed people in the past (Implied or not) he has never set out with the sole purpose of ending a human life. This choice between what he believes is right and what everyone expects of him is extremely important and mature, and I love that this show has given it the kind of weight i feel it deserves.

Did you guys know that the old women bloddenbdner "Huma" was the reason why her mother was killed. She escaped fromn the prioson using bloodbending and the fire nation went to look for her in her tribe. Little did they know there were actually two last waterbenders Huma and Katara. They were looking for Huma and found Kya (kataras and sokkas mom). Kya lied to protect her daughter thinking she would be a prisoner. The fire nation knew that they couldn' t keep waterbenders captive because Huma escaped with bloodbending, so they had to kill all waterbenders. Huma is the reason kya died. This is all my thoery and nothing is official but I think it makes sense.

ALL WATERBENDERS can blodbend on a full moon only and that includes katara. That means that it was a full moon when they atatcked the ship

Blood bending requires a full moon and the moon was full when she attacked the ship

TV Tropes strikes again!!
After the tent scene, Sokka is seen weaving a white flower (daisies?) necklace for Suki the next morning - symbolizing that there WAS in fact, a "de-flowering" that night. ;)
You know...FOR KIDS :D

This in my opinion all comes down to how Zuko betrayed her at the end of book 2 especially after she made her offer to heal him. It created this vulnerability that magnified the specific instances in which other people turned their backs against her like her father and Aang (two people she loves) . She is trying to maintain her kind self while also trying to fill up the cracks that Zuko's betrayal exposed. She is overcompensating by being aggressive so that those cracks never becomes laid in front of other people again. It is an experience she wants to prevent next time.

Warning: controversial opinion ahead. Pls don't kill me. So anyway, this episode is very good, great even. But it always bothers me so much that Katara never apologised for/acknowledged how absolutely horrible she was to Sokka and the bloodbending of the innocent man. While I get that she was upset, it would have been really easy to address these issues in a sentence or two in the resolution. I feel that Katara's character made a strange shift in the last season that I can't quite put my finger on, but she seems to get away with acting like a jerk often and she is generally less likeable. It kind of puts me off of this episode.

I tell you what. Just the way Zuko says "Shes....not going to make it" that was so powerful. Like, yeah that would end a lot of damn problems, but Zuko realized his Sister, was actually about to die. That was such a confused moment for him, and it hits me hard; having a sibling myself.

everyone should learn to forgive not just kids. "forgiveness is for yourself not the other person". you are walking around miserable and ruining your life and those around you with all that bitterness while the person you hate has moved on and not thinking about you. let it go as they say and spread love and peace

This episode is my absolute favorite for this season, and is definitely in my top 3 for avatar episodes. I was hoping for a longer video, so when I saw the time stamp of 21 minutes, I was super psyched. I hope you guys enjoyed it. You're in for a wild ride.

hate to burst your discussion bubble but it actually was a full moon that night. it was a big part of the set dressing while katara was telling her third of the flashback, but the flashback itself distracted from that fact.
Zane
2017-03-04 02:27:35 +0000 UTC
There was no full moon at that night, you don't need it to blood bend, you have to be a powerful water bender to do so, like legend of korra, there were blood benders in there without the moon, they could bloodbend at anytime. It all depends on the water bender.

I think it was a full moon during this episode. I don't know if they ever showed the moon, but it certainly looks bright for nighttime.

It WAS a full moon when Katara bloodbent, there's an establishing shot that shows it.
Speaking of stuff you can't show in a kids' show, my favorite gag in the whole series is in this episode: Sokka's flower necklace the morning after he and Suki were sneaking around. Sokka got lei'd.
I'm glad they reacted to Katara stopping the rain. I think it's one of the most badass things she does all series, and a lot of reactors seem really meh about it?

Katara can only blood bend during the full moon. There was a full moon during that fight. My favorite moment of the episode was:
Can I borrow Momo for a week?
Why?

When Zuko and Katara are leaving it pans down from a full moon at the start of the scene and the moon is visible in a couple of other shots as well. It was a nice bit of foreshadowing it you caught it.

So when does DW start?

Sokka and Suki were definitely boning. The morning after he's playing with a necklace of flowers, AKA a lei. Sokka got lei'd.
