I know it's August, but here is one of the paintings I started in July (that took a bit longer to dry than expected) It was a lot of fun to work on and was painted in a method I rarely use.

Last Month, Jerry's Artarama was kind enough to send me a set of Turner Acryla-Gaouche paints to try out last month and so I did something a little irregular and used them to paint the underpainting for this image. This isn't something I normally do, but I really wanted to try these paints out, and I have to say, I really like them! They dry a bit faster than I was used to (coming from the Holbien paints), but they were great for laying in solid color.

But I wanted to get a little more atmosphere in the painting, so after the paint dried, I spray fixed the surface and added a layer of GAC-100 to fully seal in the paper and the acryla-gouache layers. I then used oil paint to add glazes to the image to enhance the color and light. It's very much the same way I work in digital when I paint over a watercolor, just using oil instead. I like this because it is so nice to have an actual physical object when you finish, but the downside is how much longer it takes.

I hope you enjoy it! The original artwork will be making its debut at DragonCon in Atlanta this September.
