Face Transformation Test

One test we were keen to try out since the makeup effects days, was to see how well the prosthetics hold up with a VFX pass, especially when considering how we achieve something as complex as Emily's face changing during her transformation.

I think this quick pass shows merit in the notion, but as with the test film, maybe comes off a little too "American Werewolf".

What do you all think?

Concurred on the nose

Sometimes the digital stretching of this technique can be noticeable. One thing about this example is that the stretching of the nose looks too pointy. Instead of one manipulation point at the tip of the nose, my personal preference would be for it to extend more flat. Either way, I would think subtlety would be the key— a little digital stretching combined with at least three different stages of makeup. The last stage I would imagine a very pronounced muzzle (4-5 inches or so) into a true snout, still with Elle underneath before you transition into a more beastly face/eyes. That way you maintain your emotional connection to the actress for as long as possible.

Is is practical to have the close up facial transformation be done as a series of video between the stages of layered makeup and prosthetic application? Then you can line up the shots digitally with sound layered after for coherency.
