2024-12-14 01:11:24 +0000 UTCUnderstanding Japanese definitely does help with the comedy. For example, some of the puns that they would use. The Japanese word for scum is "kuzu" so when they call Kazuma "scumzuma" they're actually calling him "Kuzuma" which lands alot better as a joke nickname

For anyone considering learning Japanese as a side skill, I can assure you it’s absolutely worth it, even if just to fully enjoy the jokes in anime. It’s actually one of the reasons I decided to learn it myself (though I’ll admit it’s a pretty nerdy reason—but no regrets! XD).
