100% Class and social standing held all the power back then, if you weren't a noble you could die for any reason at the hand of one, whether you caused it or not- and that would be socially acceptable. Maomao is very aware of her status and is just incredibly smart in how she navigates it, unfortunately here... she just didn't have the luxury of time to be subtle and smart.

2024-11-08 02:17:34 +0000 UTCgod damn, this is why this series is great, and ya, you notice the guard wasn't in the shot when she was carried out, im bettin some time on the rack is earned there, however as to the reaction, you have to understand ancient culture, there is only INCREDIBLY rare cases where a noble guard hitting a servant woman is not only legal, but expected, in reality the other guard holding him back is the odd thing, in reality nobles could kill non nobles with no reprecussions, i know we are here in america, but ask a brit, or any monarchical society about classism.

Not that it wasn't good before but seeing all the seemingly insignificant scooby doo one off episodes actually collide into some bigger conspiracy was just extremely satisfying, and the remaining episodes all stay great as well
