LOL I am so confused 💀

My brain is trembling at this comment

Love watching this show with you, Subaru this time decided that after all the bs he's gone through, the fun and mundane times he had with the twins (working together, cleaning, talking, just bonding all around) was worth all the trouble so he's deciding to go back and try to save them from whatever is going on around this mansion. You mentioned something interesting when you asked how many times is he going to die throughout the whole series, the answer is a metric fuckton lol. The premise is just that some shit is always gonna get in his way at some point, and with this death power he just has to keep learning info until he can find a way around each thing without dying. Rem died in her sleep this time from the same thing that killed him during his first run while he was sleep, and almost got him in his second run that had him suddenly go very sick. He had thought Rem was the one doing it but turns out it's something entirely different. So each time it's about figuring out what the loophole is in that scenario, what thing he can do differently that might end up saving him. This mansion stack of episodes is actually what got me hooked on binging the series until I finished the first season lol.

I am upset by this comment

Renegade

what i love most about this show is that they take how these death loops affect the mental state very seriously and show it in Subaru's behavior. No unrealistically strong sense of courage or bravery here. Subaru just suffers the deaths and has to feign confidence after doing so to keep pressing foward

Marthan

You mean the fans memorize this stuff like it was... their gospel? 😉

Reuben Filimaua

Many people have explained what had happened so far but some left out about the Witch's Cult. When Rem interrogates Subaru, she says that Subaru reeks of the witch which is one of the reasons why Rem's suspicious meter is over the roof. She also said that she hated it when Subaru was chatting with Ram while reeking of the witch's smell, implying that she hates the witch and the witch's cult. The reason will be told later in future episodes.

Mirrorline

Seems like the comments have already covered everything at length. A lot of sparse puzzle pieces have been scattered and next the show will start to piece them together so both Subaru and the viewer can understand what's really happening. Also not sure if you noticed with everything happening but it was actually an alternate ending song than the usual one this episode.

This anime gets Hella complicated with like a million characters, so good luck with keeping up lol

TheGoblerTrainsMovinIn

This is a very good explanation. I think Tony just missed the clue of the first death, the "curse". It was not Rem killing him everytime. Plus, the scene Where they suspect him of being a spy (which he obviously is not but they don’t know that).

Maxime Roux-Lacroix

Yeah at this point I only knew Subaru and Emilia 💀 the rest take more time to learn (and you will, as long as you remain invested lol). Good news is you’ve got a bunch of fans in your comments that memorize this shit like a holy text haha

The girl is a magical spirit named Beatrice (Betty) and is the same type of being like Puck (the cat). She is contracted to protect the ''forbidden library'' by Roswaal (the clown guy). The witch is the Witch of Envy, all we know of her is what Subaru read from a book in the previous episode, and she is a being of power that has caused some form of terror around the world. Certain beings in this world have a stronger sense of smell than others, one of those beings are spirits like Betty. We do not know why Subaru smells like the witch currently, but having that smell on him makes people really suspicious of him. all of this will be explained later on in the show either directly or indirectly, and hopefully the community here will help you with any questions you have.

Haiiro

The girl with the curls is Betty, a spirit who works as the mansion´s librarian. The witch is the witch of envy, a "very terrifying witch" that Subaru read about in one of the books from last episode and who seems to favor him in some way for some reason. That´s about all information we have on both of them at this point, we will find out more about the characters and the whole smell thing later on in the story

Ster_arch_13

The lines at the start of the episode always get to me: "I dont cut my hands when Im peeling vegetables anymore". It's when the absolute cruelty of his ability really starts to set in. Not only does he feel all the pain of dying, but also the things that get reset arent just the bad things. All the good stuff gets lost too.

FullHeart

Who is the annoying voice girl with the curls? Who is the witch and why do they smell. Lol I can't recall any of it

DrumRollTony

I think this is a pretty solid explanation of the timeline so far. Simple and no extra confusing details

You won't know exactly what happened to Rem just yet, so don't worry. I'll just elaborate on the things that were presented so far. Subaru died that first night in his sleep. He stayed up all night trying to figure it out the second night, felt like he was going to die again from the same effect but then stumbled into the hallway and Rem ended up killing him with the flail instead. He talked to Betty and thinks it's some kind of curse. He didn't seem to have the curse effect the 3rd night but Rem tracked him down and killed him in the woods anyways. He had assumed Rem is the one that cursed him but this time around Rem died from the curse instead of him. So we learned that someone or something else, aside from Rem, is killing with the curse. We don't know what that is yet. He had loved Rem and Ram and was having fun with them (learning how to cook, read, be a butler, etc...) before he knew Rem was the one trying to kill him. He legitimately thought he was slowly making two great friends. However, when he finds out Rem is the one who kills him and Rem claims that Ram is only pretending to be his friend is when he starts to break down (that plus the hopelessness of dying over and over again). So in this cycle he just gives up on everyone, makes a contract with Betty to keep him safe and hopes he's going to just make it past all these problems by avoiding everything/everyone this time. He does survive but somehow Rem dies and the blame gets put on him. Thats why he apologizes at the end for doing nothing and still causing them so much grief. He was ready to just call it quits and get away from everyone but at the end he realizes that when he was having the constant nightmares of his deaths over and over, Rem and Ram secretly came into his room to help calm him down in his sleep. That's when he realizes that they don't actually hate him, that they are people who care so much over seeing him in pain, that they came to his aid without being asked. So he thinks them trying to kill him must be a misunderstanding and that they really are worth being friends with. He also realizes that even if he runs away next time and "does nothing" Rem is going to die again anyways. So, for the first time, he resets on purpose because he has something that matters to him other than just staying alive (saving Rem and getting his friendships back). He's willing to go through all that pain again because he thinks they are worth it. And one little side note, Rem uses the flail and Ram uses the wind magic. So back when Rem was torturing him for information, Ram did eventually find them and is the one that struck him with the killing blow from the shadows because she can't stand to see Rem torturing him like that. That's why Rem says her sister is too kind when he's dying. Ram put him out of his misery. That never gets brought up in the show so it's just a "Fun" fact!

Your confusion is normal at this point, here´s a quick (spoiler-free) summary of what´s happened so far because it might make future events a bit easier to understand: 1. Subaru died in his sleep the first time in the mansion, supposedly of some kind of curse 2. During the second loop, he tried to stay awake to figure out what was going on. When the curse started taking effect, he went out of his room to look for help, which is when Rem killed him with her mace 3. During the third loop (end of last/beginning of this episode), he found out Rem was the killer and got finished off by her again 4. In this most recent loop, Rem was the one who died in her sleep (just like Subaru in loop 1) while Subaru stayed with Betty, which indicated to Subaru that Rem was not the one who cursed him to begin with, meaning somebody else was involved in both Subaru´s first and most recent death in the mansion Finally, as for Subaru´s conviction in helping the twins out: Rem stated she killed him due to him acting suspicious (likely because he just so happened to save a royal candidate during elections and made the request to work/live in the mansion, as well as the fact he smells like the witch for currently unknown reasons). He did not make said requests in his most recent loop because he was too busy being traumatized. This made him less suspicious and due to his bad mental state and his nightmares they felt sorry for him and held his hands in his sleep, which made it clear to him that they are actually good people.

Ster_arch_13

you shouldn't know why she died yet, that's alright the thing Subaru realized, is that the sisters held his hands while he was sleeping and having nightmares, meaning they wanted to help him even if they didn't know him, so he realized they aren't bad and decided to help them in the end

Mr Rys

just normal anime twin stuff :/ everyone always confuses those 2 lmao. or just normal twin stuff, like a Timmy and a Tommy yknow. but yea, not great for viewers lmao.

Haiiro

Yeah ... they really done fucked up by making their names one letter different and just hair color as the separation. I cant tell them apart at all. LOL questionable design choices

DrumRollTony

Yeah don't worry, everything will make sense as you watch this arc

SKAOG

Confusion is to be expected of Re zero and that is normal, they usually dont give you the answers to your questions right away. the blue haired sister (Rem) died from the same thing Subaru died to the first loop in the mansion, and partly during the second loop until he got maced by Rem in the second loop. that being some curse that we dont know where stems from as of now. And from Subaru's PoV he's done 4 loops now with this cast of characters and he's really grown attached to them, so him seeing Rem be the mace wielder fucked his mind up pretty bad. Also on the 3rd loop while he was being tortured/interrogated he was killed (a wind blade) by the pink haired sister (Ram). we get that confirmation when the Blue haired sister died and the pink sister attacked Subaru to try and get information out of him since it looked like he knew what was up and cut his chin.

Haiiro

Subaru died in his sleep on his first death in the mansion, then again when he tried staying up, I forgot where the bit with the shaman came from, but he basically thinks Rem died from what killed him first few times, assuming she could put the curse on him and not just swing a giant mace.

LegionaresCZ

Yeah, don't worry, you're supposed to be confused. He literally doesn't know why all this shit is happening and you shouldn't either. The only thing he knows right now is that they were holding his hands when he was having nightmares to help him for some reason and he's gonna trust in that. There's gotta be something that makes Rem flip on him and why he dies because of a curse sometimes (or Rem)

Lixien

Don't worry I'm pretty positive you are supposed to be confused on that
