Steins Gate Ep 20

What thhhheeeeee Phhhhuuuucccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc!!!

Steins Gate Ep 20

Comments

I was thinking that too

Sean

It’s the same here just not explicitly said. That’s why he couldn’t run away

Chaisen

Honestly, for me It's not a question of whether I like the one over the other. but more how S;G0 elevates S;G itself. Instead of seeing sg0 as an entity by itself, I see it as the icing on top.

Jarrod Davies

That last reveal is probably my all time favorite exactly because of the fact it's always been there in front of your eyes, but yet it's so unexpected and you forget about it because of the million other mind-blowing things happening!

Zed

The do a good job, because the kurisu being stabbed dmail thing is there in the open once they start reversing dmails, but the writers trust that it's been so long that you forgot about it

JoeyGuy7

in the Eng dub the reason why FB killed himself was to protect his daughter he said if I'm gone they won't bother going after my kid

marlin

its probably gonna be closer to 2025 of 2026 I doubt it'll release by this year atp

Chaisen

man i remember when the reveal happened at the end of this episode the first time I watched I just stared at my screen for a solid 10 minutes jaw dropped.

Chaisen

9:45 thats one of the guys that raided the apartment with moeka

Chaisen

As long as you watch Steins;Gate first on your first watch, the order of the other entries kinda doesnt matter. It's when you suggest watching something before Steins;Gate where is just wrong.

Lixien

You really do just forget about the implications of "undoing EVERY D-mail" until the last minute. They really do an excellent job of diverting your attention by distracting you with the D-mails sent during their testing phase

who is this guy

yeah right? while i think S;G is def much better than 0, it still is way too underappreciated. The ending was probably the most cathartic, liberating experience from an anime for me and despite its flaws during the beginning and middle of it, I still think when it dipped back into its mystery elements from time to time it pulled it off really well

Marthan

Yeah the way they keep telling you exactly what the plan is but letting you forget what the very first message was, just to casually state it and then right as you're brain is catching up so is Okabe's and it's such a great instance of you and the main character experiencing the same horrible realization at once. Amazing setup and writing

Nick K

The number of references is almost at the level of jojo

kinetic98

So many memorable things/references in SG: facebook, Tony's birthday, Kurisutina, Dr Pepper, Tuturu, Lama man (ep1), Daga Otoko Da (but he is a guy), Time Travel, Supa Haka, Okie Dokie

kinetic98

I don't know if I love it more, but both Steins Gate and Steins Gate 0 is top tier anime. I'm happy to hear someone else love Zero as much as I do

rogueknight

You'll 100% like Berserk 1997 based on your preferences so far

kinetic98

100% agree. I feel like a lot of people try to push others to watch the specific watch order which is fine for a re-watch but first watch should definitely be the release order.

86exe

It's easy to focus on the beta line and forget what happened in the alpha line for watching 20 eps. The turning point of the show is to save mayuri, and we just force focus so much on it. And suddenly the story link back to the first ep which our attention shifted away from.

CK C

Suggested Watching order: Stein gate --> movie --> Stein gate 0. Which is the releasing order of the series. It's better to watch it following the releasing order cuz the story would be more complete and easier to digest.

CK C

Hey Tony! What I like about Steins gate is the rich character development the protagonist underwent. This video is a good reminder of how different Okabe now is compared to before. Its funny but also sad. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CCRKzIr8Eoc&pp=ygURc3RlaW5zIGdhdGUgZnVubnk%3D

Abdulla Al Hashmi

But she gave him bread.

Lixien

I pretty much had the same reaction as you with this episode where I didn't realized canceling out all the D-mails would lead to a worldline where Kurisu is dead. Will Okabe sacrifice Kurisu to save Mayuri? I think it's better not to ask what Steins;Gate 0 is about, and go in completely green (but not with high expectations). Despite being criticized, there are some very good moments in that season. Also, if you don't already know, there's some kind of Steins;Gate sequel coming out within this year which is presumably being released as a visual novel first. I have high expectations for this one since it seems like the original Steins;Gate writer was more involved with this project (he stepped down as CEO of MAGES some time ago).

James

There is a way some people recommend watching the second season but saying it would be a spoiler in my opinion, it is better to watch it after the first

william watson

i never finished sg0 but the movie is awesome

SinuHan

I haven't rewatched the series in long enough that the big reveal at the end still caught me off guard with how brilliant the execution of the scene is. Going from having a brief moment of reprieve where things are finally looking up and then all for it to come crashing back down with that banger main theme coming in and the color desaturation completely defusing all the repose out of the shot and replacing it again with cold, hard tension.

Joe

And there it is! This last reveal is what I was hoping a rewatch of the first episode wouldn't ruin for you. I had my thoughts already typed up, and you basically mirrored them in your post-episode thoughts: I think it's really cool the way the reveal was obvious in retrospect. The show starts by convincing you that things are really confusing and you can figure out what they mean later, then dives into several episodes of slice of life buildup which serve the dual purpose of building investment in the characters. This separates the original D-mail from the sequence that apparently needs to be undone, misleading the audience as well as Okabe into seeing the wrong finish line.

Anorus

"He's being a little bit cold here" WELL he did see her leading the group that came and killed Mayuri countless times

Ryo

We cant wait of Jet's REACTION on S;G0

d_swordfish

I only ever watched this original run of Steins;Gate on 2 occasions. Stuff like S;G 0 and anything beyond this will be a first time watch when they show up here.

Jet Man

I'm just going to say that I liked stains gate 0 more by a little bit but this series is still my number 1

WithoutName 98

Yea, man, S;G never dissapointing. And you know what? You still have 4 banger episodes ahead! Ep 22, and finale... omg you know what I mean, guys! Yea you dont interupt S;G to watch S;G0. This was not meant by creators, that is simply fan's stuff. Normally in such case you watch S;G and then go either "23 beta episode"+ S;G0 or OVA + Movie. Personally I'm not a fan of S;G0. It's Cringe;Gate to me :D I prefer OVA + Movie route even if it's considered non-canon I just like it more. But you know... When S:G0 was dropped, I saw lower ratings of S;G0 but that didnt stop me from jumping into it. I simply love S;G so much that I was able to swallow that cringe-pill. But I would say - eding of S;G0 is good in some way. So regardless of what people saying here (including me) - it's your anime journey. If you like S;G and you curious what S:G0 about - just go there! You will have your opinion on it and we are also interested in your personal thoughts!

d_swordfish

The reveal at the end is so so so clever because as you said while it’s never been hidden the show does such a good job of completely taking your focus away from it so by the time we finally get back to it it’s a massive shock. Also can’t really explain what Steins;Gate 0 is about until you finish this but 100% release order is the best order to watch it.

AussieBoy

Yeah, some other reactors I've seen realized early what the first D-mail was and were like: ''wait, but... you're going back to that wordline''. I personally didn't lol, it really does a good job because you feel so stupid, it's like... there. The fact that it makes a lot of people forget that in episode 1 she dies is amazing.

Lixien

Peak after peak after peak

Loayza

I had the exact same reaction to the end of this episode. You just completely forget over the course of time that he needs to undo that because of how early on it happened

Danyul

Two in a row. You are spoiling us, Tony.

d_swordfish

HEH HEH HAW HAW My prayers have been answered!!!

Hoji

One of the best moments in the show for me. We spend all this time with the slice of life stuff and saving Mayuri that we completely forget how this all even started in the first place. Brilliant writing
