Fate Zero Ep 3

Stuff about to go down!
Can't wait to see ep 4

Fate Zero Ep 3

Comments

Sorry about that! I was just lamenting the fact that the vote put you into the deep end from the get go. As its A LOT to take in at once. Not that you, yourself, were doing it wrong or anything. I know you're following what people vote for. I've watched a lot of Fate reactions and the vote often puts Fate Zero first and I just wished people voted for an easier to digest Fate as a reactor's first watch, so it would be easier on the reactors. Not that it's necessarily "wrong". Regardless, you're catching a ton and your reactions have been great! I'm glad you're enjoying it and I look forward to each new episode. Literally about to pull up your EP 4 reaction. Sorry if the post came off the wrong way.

TBH I am not able to absorb a comment that is this long. As soon as you go into "well the order you are doing is borderline the wrong order" I start to check out. I understand there are so many ideas on where to start but this is what was told to me by the majority.

Wanted to add a couple notes. The fact that Irisviel wasn't allowed outside wasn't because of Kiritsugu. That was her own family's decision. Her family asked Kiritsugu to "marry into" the family to have a kid with her and fight for their side in the Grail War. So Kiritsugu actually isn't the one really in charge of her situation. He's basically her family's "guest". Though he is given a lot of leeway because they really need him and he does have control in how she acts in the Grail War (so he's the reason she got to go outside). You'll get more info on this as the show goes on. Also, you did catch the fact that having Saber and Irisviel hanging out together was a ruse to cause people to think Irisviel was the master. However, though Saber was indulging Irisviel to help show her the outside world, being "out in the open" was the plan anyways because they want people to be focusing on them so Kiritsugu can run around all sneaky like. Thats why Irisviel was so happy to be basically like "oh, they see us? Lets go fight !" because the plan is working. Also, I kind of wish people would make reactors watch Fate Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (UBW) first. Fate Zero is a prequal to it so a lot of people always say to start with Fate Zero first but UBW is wayyyyy more new viewer friendly. Most viewing lists say to watch UBW first but people always vote to watch Zero first for some reason. Hell, some of the lists even have Zero listed as one of the last ones to watch. You can watch them in either order, so its an ongoing debate for who thinks what should be watched first. Personally, I feel like Fate Zero is written in a way where it kind of assumes you watched Fate before and have a general grasp of the universe and how it works. So they are throwing so much more lore and info into each sentence. Of all the Fates I have seen, Fate Zero is probably the least new viewer friendly IMO. You can literally miss huge plot points if you miss a single sentence. You're viewing experience isn't ruined by watching this one first as the show is at least designed in a way where they still give you enough info to "catch on". However, I still think people should watch UBW (or the original Stay Night) as their first Fate and then this would have been much easier to follow in my opinion. Also, Fate Zero skips over one of the cool parts of the Fate series IMO, which is the Hero's names. Normally the names of the Heroes are held even from the audience until the very last moment as part of story reveals. However, Fate Zero tells you almost all the names up front and you miss out on the fun guessing games...but that's just me haha. Anyways, regardless of my opinion on watch order though, you're still going to have a fun ride. It's a great show regardless and you are picking up A TON of info already. So you are doing a great job of catching a lot of stuff so far, especially since it's your first Fate.

"First time I was on a beach at night and I wasn't locked in a castle my whole life I was a little more impressed." To be fair, she grew up in a castle. That, itself, is pretty damn impressive. xD On a side note, there are a few sites that show VAs with image comparisons that don't delve into details like a wiki. You can click on actor names and it will pull up a list of their works. I've used this one in the past. https://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/tv-shows/Fate-Zero/japanese-cast/

Renalldo

Oh that makes more sense. I was like, I never have seen a DnD system with that kind of rating method. The way the OP worded it sorta suggested that

DrumRollTony

Master fighting with thier servants is pretty rare that its doesnt matter that much if they compliment each other. The power gap between master and servant is so huge that they cant really help in a fight

Nusutto

Seems like Assassin's "death" confused you a little bit. As shown in the church, Assassin has multiple entities of himself, so the one who got killed by Archer ( the golden boy ), was just one of those enteties. So Assassin is still in the game. The Master of Assassin just wanted to trick the other Masters, making them believe that Assassin is dead. Also it's very important to not forget that the Master of Assassin and the Master of Archer (golden boy in armor ) are actually allies, which was estabilshed in the first episode. So the entire thing was just a ruse for the other Masters. Like you said, every dialogue can be very important for your undestanding of the story. So if anything is not clear, it's better to rewind scenes. I would also heavily advice you to drop watching this Anime on Crunchyroll. The sub is garbage and there are also cut scenes. The quality also seems to be off. Looks like 720p.

Elite968

The death of the Assassin class was a fake out like the title of episode 2 hints at "The fake first shot". The guy at the church mentioned he wanted everyone to see this first battle so they all think that his summon was dead. But for whatever reason his summon is not 1 person but a group of multiple assassins. So he secretly still in the game

Magikarp

Modern D&D attributes are the same mostly, so Saber would have 16 strength now but could have had 18 if summoned by the other guy I think. I wonder if that means you could screw yourself over by summoning the wrong hero and nerfing them somehow if you don't compliment their abilities?

Eric

Yeah, this show, while very good, is very information heavy. Feel free to rewind or pause to process things more often if needed, or rewatch certain scenes on your own time, even if the scenes don't seem too important, most likely they are. Lots of moving pieces, especially this first half of the season

Arsenic805

My netflix don't have it but I am pretty sure it is on any other anime 'streaming' site, (ex animepahe.ru, just get adblock or uBlock Origin and youre good), I dont know what site he uses to watch Jojos but that one should have it to.

More of a Japanese rpg/mobile/gacha game rating system.

Fate stats are strength, agility, endurance, luck and mana and noble phantasm. They have their own scaling of stats from E D C B A EX. There are "+" modifiers like A+ or B++ but getting into that right now might be much. If I remember right E is a value of 10 and every rank up adds 10, so STR A is 50. Servants also have skill proficiencies like sabers riding. These come as class skills and personal skills. Saber has class skills magic resist and riding while her personal skills are charisma and instinct. Its more dnd-like than using dnds format. There are dnd alignments tho, for example saber is lawful good. Btw none of these is needed for the story just side fact stuff. Theres a popular mobile game thats out where this is relevant but its gameplay is outdated these days and only still alive cause its story is really good

Nusutto

Not sure what Str A or B means. Is that modern DnD?

DrumRollTony

Fun fact for dnd players, sabers riding skill is ranked A and gilgamesh's independant action skill that was mentioned is also ranked A. Stats like STR and AGI are determined by the master summoning the servant. For example saber right now has STR B but if someone like tokiomi summoned her she could have STR A.

Nusutto

Thank you Linus, it seemed odd that I half-remembered this conversation when I watched it years ago and it didn't appear in CR. You cleared it up for me. Although at this point, should it be the Netflix version preferred? (is it still on Netflix?) Appreciate it if you happen to know where it's in full 1080 with no censored/cut scenes.

Resonaire

yea Rider is Thorkell from vinland saga

Jonas Teigen

I dislike that besides cutting/censoring scenes the Crunchyroll version of this is in 720p. You need to watch it in 1080p to get the fullest experience of Ufotable's animation. I might sound like a broken record but i really want you to watch this show in the best way. :<)

Linus Pettersson

Here is the cut dialogue/scene from the other Fate/Zero version that Crunchyroll don't have. After Saber and iri (the white haired girl) landed they cut the scene of them going through the airport to show their passport and get their luggage, this was the cut dialogue: Iri: "Still, you must be the only Servant who has flown in an airplane in physical form." Saber: "I apologize for that. If only I could take spirit form..." Iri: No, I didn't mean it like that. Don't worry about it. I never get tired of watching you." Saber: "Irisviel, is there something odd about me?" Iri: "No, not at all." Saber: "When you laugh like that, there is some hidden meaning behind it. What is it? I want you to be frank with me." Iri: "It means that your being stuck in physical form isn't without its merits. It's given me many enjoyable hours choosing outfits for you." Saber:"Irisviel, is this manner of dress truly common in this era?" (referring to her black suit) Iri: I chose it to balance out my own outfit. You don't care for it?" Saber: "No. it is fine. It is rather easy to move in, and besides, I am used to dressing as a man." Beside adding better pacing it shows the characters bonding and sharing that Saber can't dematerialize or go to 'spirit form'.

Linus Pettersson

bro just played the exact same character again and thought we wouldn’t notice smh

Chelly

Not everything has been made clear yet, things between Kiritsugu and the white haired woman are kind of vague on purpose, all we know is that the white haired woman's family chose both her and Kiritsugu as ways to win the war. They do have a daughter together and seem to have some fondness for each other, but essentially their marriage was for purpose of winning this war. Some stuff is alluded to be happening with her family, but it's not the main focus so it'll take time to clear that up, it's still cool though so I hope people don't spoil it here.

LegionaresCZ

Bill Clinton is an anime character lol, he is the 8th master of the holy grail war

kinetic98

I like how Alexander the Great is just chilling, eating snacks, drinking beer and watching TV documentaries about warfare tech

kinetic98

Thorkell and rider are the same VA

Carson689

AKA Dimple from Mob

Anorus

To sum up Kotomine Kirei (Assassin's Master) from the first 3 eps: He is allied with Tohsaka Tokiomi (Gilgamesh's Master). Kirei sent Assassin to the Tohsaka residence to intentionally get caught and destroyed, out in the open where mages' familiars and clairvoyance can see Assassin dying. Then he goes to the Church for asylum and protection, claiming his Servant has died and he will basically "sit out of the battle". His father, Kotomine Risei accepts him into the church for protection, and as you see in this ep, there is more than one "Assassin".

Ryo

riders VA is the same as thorkell in vinland so i bet he sounded familiar

Tauren Rogue

The ending visuals are actually based on some paintings of the famous legends irl!

elijah lew

The scene in the church is meant to show that Assassin is still alive in some capacity. We don't really know Kirei's plan however.

Katakuriko

As you learnt this episode, their Servants' identity has to be hidden in this war because it basically gives information to the enemy. That's why Saber is hiding her weapon, the servants get knowledge from the era they're in and Arthur's weapon is very famous. Btw, her identity is one of the things that you are kinda "spoiled" by starting from Fate Zero. If you start from the Visual Novel which is the "correct order" you don't really get her identity until much later. But yeah, it doesnt really influence the story, you just lose the "oh shit" factor that the blonde woman you were following all this time is actually the Legendary hero Arthur Pendragon which was supposed to be a man. In the next anime that I assume you're going to watch after this one (Unlimited Blade Works) her identity is never revealed until she reveals her weapon.

Lixien

Whoever decided give Saber that black suit design is a genius. If it was Urobuchi or Takeuchi.
