Oshi No Ko S2 Ep 12

It's time for another vote 👀

Oshi No Ko S2 Ep 12

Comments

Yeah definitely weird. I think it kinda makes sense considering she was young and dying and he was around for her during that hard time when her parents weren't. Still weird tho. Super glad its not reversed where he felt that way towards her, and that he was evasive about it at least

Bjorn Knudson

The reading comprehension demon strikes again in here

Kobury

tbf towards vincent, they aren't advocating for the removal of age of consent, and they give reasoning behind why the laws are the way they are, and i don't get the impression from their comment that they support what happens in the show

Red Menace

Leonardo Di Caprio liked this episode

kinetic98

For sure… past stuff has gone unaddressed for too long lol

Chelly

Yeah it can... and it will be a topic of critical discussion for beyond obvious reasons

DrumRollTony

I just wanna know who liked Vincent's comment ....

(This comment is not directed at you specifically Tony) You know what, I’m gonna say it: ANIME CAN AND SHOULD HAVE UNCOMFORTABLE TOPICS IN IT. Censorship in the west has gone so far at this point that people are afraid of even a little discomfort in their stories… There is nothing wrong with this show depicting characters that have strange views on relationships, especially in a story with as much psychological research behind it as we know Akasaka has done (he’s the writer, for those who actually don’t know). I like it when a story isn’t afraid to have these conversations, and not everyone has lived the same experiences. It makes for a far, FAR more complex reaction from Ruby and others as a result.

Chelly

Call it “normalization” if you want but it’s not an uncommon thing to think at this age 🤷‍♀️ fair warning, this anime is very focused on character psychology so this is far from the strangest you will find in the story.

Chelly

someone actually gets it... From Ruby's perspective the doctor was her only connection and her big inspiration for being an idol.

However, there is no actual ethical or philosophical reason that points to relationships with or between younger people as being inherently bad or evil. The philosophical basis underlying the legal framework for protecting minors is just that: protecting minors. There is an inherent power difference between an older person and a younger person, socially and legally. The unequal power balance in such relationships, sexual or otherwise, tend to end up in exploitation. Therefore, we should, as a society, see to it that such issues are prevented through criminalizing the situations that can (and almost inevitably) lead to such imbalances. On theory, and philosophically, there is no reason to object to an equal and mutual relationship built on genuine trust and respect between two individuals, regardless of their age gap. It just happens that such equal relationships almost never exist. They don't even exist most of the time between two people of legal age. We have laws to protect against some of the more egregious and problematic relationships, like abusive domestic relationships, discriminatory workplace relationships etc, as well, but for the most part, and especially for romantic and sexual relationships, the law doesn't interfere. As Kana mentioned, the freedom to love is a universal human right (though that also comes with many caveats).

Vincent

Socially and legally, and even psychologically, there are very clear reasons to criminalize sex with minors, and because of the blurred lines between physical and mental attraction and closeness, sex and relationships are often conflated for good reason in law as well.

Vincent

Not every show does shifting themes and tone this well. We were just in the middle of a play and now this, yet I’m just as invested in both.

SimplySora

No no it's definitely normalized very frequently in anime to the point where it's pretty disgusting. In this episode you could maaaaybe just chalk it up to a naive young girl's childhood crush. But the rest of the show, (along with many MANY other anime) is still very dismissive about this stuff and with a topic as sensitive as this, you can't just introduce it into your writing without VERY clearly condemning it. We just often ignore it in this show because it pulls us back in with its plot twists and character writing.

Marthan

Please please please don't let the little sister join the love polygon 😩

Alberto Munoz

Oh thats not as long as i thought, thought it'd be at elast 40 minutes.

SinuHan

Normalisation? So portraying something wrong in fiction is to normalise it. So in AOT and Death Note they normalize murder and/or genocide, how sad that an author would do that, and their fans surely must be psychopaths and potential murderers lol

Loayza

Hits hard when you realize that Aqua has essentially lost a mother twice. You get another shot at life but you go through the same trauma again. It makes sense why Aqua is the way he is.

Sarai

The age things makes me cringe so hard my skin crawls every time they say some weird shit its insufferable. This has to be the worst side of anime the recurrent sexualization of minors and the normalisation of weird adult-teenagers relationships. They always have to ruin a good story with this its actually unbearable.

Jhon 1479

I saw that! Was cool

DrumRollTony

I thought it was a cool detail where during the flashback to when the girl was passing away in her bed, we see a reflection/outline of Aqua and Ruby on the window behind the doctor.

Eli L.

Yeah, it's just Ruby's POV. To her, doctor was the only person who cares about her until her death. Doctor hopes Sarina(Ruby) to live more than 16 years old, so he said things like "I'll seriously consider about love & marriage stuff once you turn 16." After hearing that, as a young girl who loves her doctor, that was one of her dearest wish. Sadly, Sarina died at age 12. BUT now, she reincarnated as Ruby and turned 16. So she wants to fulfill her wish in this life. It may seems creepy stuff, but it's just pure thinking of a young girl who couldn't fulfill her wish in her previous life.

just another one of those "WHY ISNT NEXT WEEK TODAY?!?!!?" episodes.....sigh...lmao

Alomy

I thought they were 23 minutes each for Uzumaki. Edit: looked it up. 30 to 35 minutes each.

Jet Man

If it has to be a seasonal anime I'd recommend Uzumaki, its very different from the animes he's watched before, a thriller that I think would be worth a watch. The only problem is that the episodes are going to be longer than 20 minutes. There will only be four episodes in total though so I'm not sure but I hope that would make it watchable for him (in terms of time issues).

SinuHan

No clue what Dan Da Dan is about but seems like a lot of people are hyped for it.

Sam

I imagine people are going to suggest Dan Da Dan as the seasonal anime to replace Oshi No Ko. It premieres on Oct 4.

Jet Man

Yeah a third season will probably be announced after the final episode which is coming out a couple days later than the normal time for whatever reason.

AussieBoy

the final episode comes out on oct. 6
