Want to say I really appreciate and enjoyed watching your journey with Vinland Saga. I look forward to whatever you will be watching next in this slot. Personally not a big fan of some of the recommendations here, but others are very solid suggestions.

Mator

My single suggestion is Black Lagoon.

Mator

Uzumaki

MGC

oh I would love to see Tony's reaction to that on here some day so thanks for name dropping it! I think there's more action heavy mature series to get through tho before this show has a realistic chance at getting into a slot

Retcon-naissance

You should do ranking of kings! It’s short 24 episodes but I feel like it would match the aesthetic/vibe of the anime you seem to enjoy. I believe you’ve also done a reaction to one of their openings. It’s like a twisted fairy tail with knights and such but the protagonist is great.

Sebastien Alexander

Fate

Justin Taylor

I don’t think it was necessarily skipped. They will probably show it at the start of the next season since they wanted to have the impactful season finale in this one.

Meru Tenchin

Castlevania.

There's a fan made Berserk adaptation (not sure how deep into it's incredibly long story it'll go) in the works with a trailer called The Black Swordsman that looks absolutely amazing and so far doing the source material's art and feel justice. Because you're understandably not down for the manga that will probably be your best option if you do end up deciding to watch it at some point because the guy isn't wrong about the anime adaptations for it (even the best one) the degree of quality difference between the manga and it's various adaptations are anywhere from vast to aggravating to the point it's a borderline disservice to the original work (some better than others but still worlds apart from the manga). The best adaptation is serviceable on its own but it's still like the degree of difference of seeing an (amazing) band live and listening to them on cassette with the free airline headphones, it's that big of a gap in quality. As a side note probably one of the biggest reasons it hasn't gotten a beloved adaptation like Vinland despite its legendary status as one of the greatest manga ever is probably because the extremely excessive detail in the art for stuff like armor and monster designs would be an absolute nightmare to replicate in animation, like I can't stress enough how unbelievably hard and time/manpower consuming it would be to animate so many of the designs without resorting to a bunch of corner cutting that just won't look good or severely degrade the intensity of its material. Also a second likely reason is that it's got a lot of content warning stuff that's absolutely integral to the story most studios probably don't want to mess with even in the name of authenticity to the source material and taking it out or toning it down is not really an option if they want to do it right.

Levi Blair

Exactly getting it out there hopefully gets people remembering how amazing it is and eventually giving it better odds at getting a spot. Millennium Actress is my third favorite of his works and it's a real close one to Paranoia Agent at second with Perfect Blue being a strong favorite for me.

Levi Blair

Not enough people fighting the good fight. ODDTAXI is underrated gold

Isaac Noël

Such an underrated one, I love it!

Ginger Ale

Shouwa genroku rakugo shinjuu

Hamid

I'm not going to read the Manga. Is either bad adaptation or nothing. That's my point.

DrumRollTony

Not a “superfan” but a fan. Berserk doesn’t have good anime adaptation and that’s a fact. Manga is and always will be superior. https://assetsio.gnwcdn.com/berserk-manga-kentaro-miura-dragon-slayer.jpg?width=1200&height=1200&fit=bounds&quality=70&format=jpg&auto=webp

Meru Tenchin

A fellow Satoshi Kon afficionado, nice^^ Perfect Blue is up there for me too although I must say I have a particular soft spot for Millennium Actress. I agree with what you've said about the likelihood of Paranoia Agent getting into the first Seinen slot right btw - it's not gonna win this time but it can't hurt to name drop it already. It's not as popular or widely seen as the current competition but eventually that pool will get smaller.

Retcon-naissance

I’ll admit the “super fan” comment comes off a little cheesy in my head looking at it now😂 Obviously watch whatever you think will hit the best for you.

Ryan Pebeck

I mean... lol ok

DrumRollTony

All I will say as a Berserk superfan is that it is best experienced through the manga. So I would pick another anime than Berserk. Beserk 97 is pretty good but it still doesn't measure up to the source material.

Ryan Pebeck

Mushishi is exceptionally good in everything it does. I just don't see it getting enough attention to pull through for a first Seinen replacement though. Though I could definitely see it getting more and more backing as these replacement suggestion times come up, like maybe 3 or 4 down the line I could see it having a solid chance at pulling through. It's an absolutely fantastic series but I just don't see it getting the sort of community push it would need until a few more big hitters are checked off the list.

Levi Blair

Paranoia Agent is so damn good, I mean so is all of Satoshi Kon's work but Paranoia Agent and Perfect Blue are on the pedestal for me out of his work. I doubt Paranoia Agent will get considerable backing as the first Seinen replacement though just because of its competition popularity wise. This is definitely one I see getting a real push down the line after at earliest the one that gets picked this time to around the third/fourth or so down the line.

Levi Blair

I definitely recommend Psycho Pass - Season 1 specifically. The rest of the seasons are a sequel in a way but Season 1 is a finished story on it's own so it can be watched without continuing. I think it would fit really well with the more mature/serious slot and definitely seems like something you would like. I do however think that it's trailers are either pretty weak in terms of showing what it really is about or completely spoiling some of the main plot so if you're watching the trailers to pick a show it's worth taking that into account.

Enjo

Ight, i'll nominate Fate/Zero and these are my reasons for it -Well-developed characters The show gives characters a good amount of screen time which is impressive given the amount of characters that are shown in the series. -Interesting plot The plot is well-done and gets better down the road, as it makes the watcher and some characters question their perspective in things. Also its a battle royale (in my opinion i think that's sick). -Animation and Music Animation is great as it was done by UFOtable and as for the soundtrack i'd describe it as epic and emotional. PS. I'd recommend watching this uncensored :)

Jet Man

Black Lagoon

JD

This anime is super underrated has some great ost aswell

jddn

I don't think EVA is going to fit into this specific replacement slot but it is such a monumental part of anime right next to Akira that they are effectively mandatory viewing for fans of the medium. At some point being an anime fan and not having seen EVA+End of EVA is like being a western film fan and never having seen a Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino or Francis Ford Coppola film. EVA is just too impactful and timeless to not watch at some point.

Levi Blair

I'm already trying to like all the Monster recommendations because imo that is prime seinen follow up material to Vinland in the serious/mature category, so my votes on Monster. Neon Genesis Evangelion isn't perfectly fitting for this type of suggestion though I'm still fairly certain it's going to end up on here at some point because it's as close to mandatory viewing as shows get for the anime medium. Also it's not spoilers because everything is heavily insinuated with the intent of you knowing what they are showing but the person shown at the end laying a flower at a grave (his mothers) was the same person putting on armor and carrying the sword and that was a young Askeladd presumably around Thorfinn's current age, we know this because of the blue eyes, hair style, signature body-armor and his unique sword hilt. I'm assuming that was primarily there to show the parallels of their respective starts to their journeys considering Askeladd really started his life after killing his father and Thorfinn is now really starting his life after finding his true journey, it is definitely a call back to the end of season one with what Askeladd said to Thorfinn as he was dying. Lastly that was Thorfinn with the short hair at the very end the scar, brown eyes and walking towards Einar are the giveaways. Your mention of the problem with really great series is that they make you want to rewatch them is something I'm a massive victim(?) of with the Monogatari series being my "time to watch it again" series. It's like a legit problem at this point I've seen it in its just over 100 episode and 3 film entirety probably about 15 times now and read all the books twice. I don't know if I can stop.

Levi Blair

Great Pretender is an amazing show about scams and heists, really fun plot to follow

Gamesplore

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury!

Alberto Munoz

I love this one, but since he's looking for a serious show for this slot, it may not be a good fit.

Alberto Munoz

My recommendation is March Comes In Like A Lion. Amazing show that's about Shogi on the surface but has a deeper message that explores the darkness that exists between regular people in day to day life. It's also the most realistic depiction of chronic depression I've seen in media. It's definitely a sad show at times, but it's got amazing highs that balances the experience imo. Bit of a longshot but check out the trailer and if it appeals give it a try

Isaac Noël

Tony, I'm absolutely stoked to hear you're going to be digging into the Vinland Saga Omnibus. While I have read my fair share of manga there are only a few that I can say have really stuck in my memory, and Vinland saga occupies a significant portion of it. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it if you ever decide to do a manga analysis in the future! To clear up some confusion at the end of the episode, the person you saw with the sword was a young Askeladd, and Thorfinn showing off his new haircut at the end.

Isaac Noël

Doesn't have to be for the seinen category, and Tony himself said he'd check anything for his own interests. If he doesn't find it interesting then he doesn't and that's that, yes- it has a slow plot, but good music and an interesting concept and journey. But alas, its clear so far that everyone has very different interpretations of 'interesting' so ultimately its up to Tony to make that call not us 🤣so thanks for the opinion but I dont think your name is Tony.

Low quality animation with a cheesy plot. Not even close to take the spot for Seinen category

skrrt

Ascendance of a bookworm different but might be refreshing, up to you tho obviously if its of any interest.

Yuyu

I would kill for Tony to start reacting to movies. He's really missing out on some good stuff by not watching them - not to say he's avoiding them it's just not as easy a thing to do for the patron with his time schedule

Andrew

I don't know how great this suggestion is for Tony specifically cuz this show is quite different from anything else he's seen but I'd like to throw welcome to the nhk into the mix

Andrew

Hi Tony, what i would recommend between the two animes you mentioned at the start of the video would be berserk, the 1997 version. What i would personally love to see you react to would be mushoku tensei, it tackles more mature themes that aren't for everyone, but i think it's an amazing story that really focuses on the mental and moral side of human nature, cheers!

Things that was skipped in the anime was scenes where it showed Ylva cutting Thorfinns hair and also she said that clean face suits the kind nature of his face better. Ylva also reminded thorfinn that he will become 23 years old after the winter. The guy with the sword was young Askeladd.

Mirrorline

AOT more realistic, Vinland saga too optimistic in their ideology. But both have good story telling, AOT foreshadowing, dilemma, human ethical topics and etc. Vinland saga, history background based, Season 1 kinda boring in the middle but still good. And season2 starts with focusMong on farming, making audience dive more into the story. Like how much effort to put in farming and how the society was back then.

CK C

"Paranoia Agent" as a first taste of Satoshi Kon and a perspective on collective fears, stresses and anxieties of modern society and how bizarrely those can manifest it's very much a psychological anime that blurs the line between reality and illusion accompanied by a very memorable soundtrack imo

Retcon-naissance

Gonna feel every other show is mid for a while after finishing AOT and Vinland saga. The idea they convey is in different level.

CK C

Precisely! That order is more important for new viewers like tony. Since Zero aired first as anime only, it should come first. And honestly Heavens Feel isn't a must watch. Which is why only if he enjoys Zero and UBW should he explore any other show in the series otherwise it'll just become confusing and convoluted. But even just watching Zero by itself is enough. Then if he likes it and wants more, like you said, UBW and maybe HF.

Arsenic805

You 're so right. And I definitely know what you mean with the pacing but at the same time I also loved the anime for that. It will take all the time it needs creating lively and believabel characters and an even more believable and lively world (including some random ancounters too) And I think by doing so it creates a whole new vibe and is able to suck you into this world even deeper. So even the times when the pacing felt a little bit of probably added to the grand scheme of world building (although I might skip some of these episodes when rewatching XD)

Marien Panta

Monster!

ipadid

I’m gonna go short monster point and blank

Gindread

I'm a big fan of Re zero but I couldn't get into Konosuba, they're both isekai but still very different imo

JT

The actual order now would be to watch UBW > The Heaven's feel Movies > Fate Zero since Zero spoils some plot points in HF. But honestly, it's fine to watch Zero first, it's how every anime only started because Heaven's feel didn't exist. Also, it depends on the person but Zero in my opinion is more ''new viewer friendly'', UBW and HF feel more like projects for viewers that were already fans. Sure, Zero spoils Heaven's Feel but if Tony or someone else ends up not enjoying UBW then what's the point? Get him to watch Zero so he's already into the series before he gets into UBW and HF.

Lixien

Also yeah, that guy at the end is Thorfinn. They cut the scenes of his sister cutting his hair from the manga lol. I think that whole sequence of showing all the characters when they were young was a cool way to transition into the reveal of Thorfin's new look because he kinda looks like his kid self now but older.

Lixien

yeas, pls

d_swordfish

reposting my suggestion from last episode: Once again Im doing my propaganda for Hunter x Hunter to replace Vinland Saga. VInland Saga is a masterpiece probably in my top 2-4 but Hunter x Hunter is the only one thats clearly above all the rest. Even though 148 ep may seem a lot it's actually a decent length and I can assure you won't regret it. It's also more in line with the codes of shonen (while also breaking them but I wont tell more about this) so it's completely different from anything you've experienced so far. Also you already had a glimpse of it but the music in HxH is S tier so I sincerely hope you'll watch that after Vinland.

Jhon 1479

Bonus info: Planetes is based on a manga... And guess who wrote and drew it? Makoto Yukimura - the mangaka behind Vinland Saga

Retcon-naissance

Yes!

IRG7

I would really recommend Monster after this. especially in comparison to Berserk. Not because Beserk is not good enough or anything but because most of the anime adaptations there aren't the best and I would rather recommend reading the manga. additionally Beserk is not finished (and maybe never will be, because the mangaka died a few years ago) while the Monster anime is a completed story, so no need to wait for new seasons to come out, after finishing ;)

Marien Panta

Parasyte the Maxim 👌

Lari

So fun fact, like Attack on Titan going from Studio WIT to Studio MAPPA, Vinland Saga also changed from Studio WIT to Studio MAPPA. Big difference though is MAPPA provided almost none of their actual staff for Vinland, so Season 2 was made up of mostly core staff members of Season 1. It was basically a Studio change in name only for the most part

Alejandro Pupo

Erased - Has some time travel stuff so may be a better replacement for Steins;Gate.

Dolfy

You're still right but now that he's watching Re:Zero some of the humour would be perfect there. But yeah, there's still all the fanservice which would turn him off lol.

Lixien

Monster is a great replacement for Vinland saga

Ginger Ale

And the last scene is just Thorfinn with a fresh cut😂 Some people do look completely different when they are shaven.

P_ateric

27:37 among this series of flashbacks, this is young Ashlad saying goodbye to his mother’s gravestone, putting on his chestpiece and setting out. The paler blond hair, blue eyes, and mostly the chestpiece is the tell.

P_ateric

Btw, eariler that was young Askeladd with all the swords. The last person was Thorfinn with a new hair cut...

Maggie

Overlord

Abdulla Al Hashmi

Great suggestion! I do know they're ~40min episodes, so I wonder if Tony could shift the schedule slightly to where 1 Arcane ep would replace a back-to-back Vinland Saga spot. -- I don't want to make more work on the recording/editing side

Taylor

Black Lagoon. Anybody?

Jet Man

My pick will always be Fate Zero! I think it's a series you will definitely have a good time watching!

Alejandro Pupo

I think you might like Cowboy Bebop, especially with the variety of music it has.

VInland Saga is so damn good. Can't wait for season 3 honestly

Samurai Champloo

Lemon Zester

Would recommend Madoka Magica. At first glance it doesn't look like something you'd want, but the reality is that the storytelling is definitely on the mature level you're looking for and the story as a whole is engrossing.

Danyul

I definitely agree the Japanese VA is top tier . But it’s always nice to have a dub. Besides compared to FMAB , fate zero English dub is far superior. In the end it’s Tony’s decision if he likes it he’ll watch dub if not that’s fine. And as a viewer I’ll watch regardless of what he chooses. I’m sure many would agree.

Juan Ramirez

Definitly Monster. it has at one point a little downer, pacing wise, but holy is it worth it. I think you would love this

Boskii_

I love the 1995 Oshii adaptation of GITS too, but like GITS:SAC even more. And Tony has seemed to be hesitant to movies in general. The two are completely separate universes and interpretations of the source material so its not like the movie is required viewing

Auks

Monster

P_ateric

Hunter x hunter or made in abyss

Maggie

I don't get why you would risk that, Tony has changed from dub to sub on more than one occasion and seem to notice and appreciate when the Japanese voice acting is top notch. Fate/Zero has a AAA tier celebrity cast of Japanese voice actors. Especially people like Akio Ootsuka in the role of Rider and Jouji Nakata in the role of Kirei.

Rain Wu

You should definitely check out Berserk 1997

jddn

I will champion for Parasyte the Maxim till the end of time.

Frizen

To clarify something about the Fate series. Specifically Fate/Zero and Fate/Unlimited Blade Works: they are new viewer friendly. Yes there's so many Fate shows it seems impossible to know where to start but Fate/Zero literally sets up the world, rules, setting, and is the perfect place to start, and UBW continues where Zero left off. These two shows are animated by the same studio UFOtable, while other Fate shows are animated by different studios and cover different stories in the universe. Tbh those shouldn't even be considered as you won't have knowledge of the world that Fate/Zero would provide. You would also not be expected to watch all those other shows as they're more supplementary material and not as important to the main story. Definitely recommend checking out the trailers at least. Someone else gave a perfect non-spoiler synopsis. From magic/summoning to a killer soundtrack, and dark themes. Right up your alley. Might not be on the level of Vinland but Vinland is in its own league lol.

Arsenic805

Couldn’t agree more

kail santini

Psycho Pass!

kail santini

i took the ending as showing all the major characters at thorfinn's current age , thors leaving war with a child, askaladd flower on his mother grave, young leif and his adventurous energy. Its almost a "the journey begins NOW" type of energy

Kegs

Monster and Psycho Pass be my vote. Berserk is also great but i can only get behind the 1997 anime.

Trowa

Yeah I agree, but I would pay to see him react to at least a few scenes lmao

Loayza

Leif really is the MVP of this show. He spent 16 years searching for not even his own son but his friends son and never once gave up. And then on top of that without hesitation agrees to help him with the insane undertaking of founding an entirely new nation in Vinland. I'd love some sort of side story about some of the crazy encounters and stories he must have had during those 16 years.

Meru Tenchin

Monster is great

HaukurE

I just don't believe he's the taget audience for that series lol

Peak comedy isekai? Please lol

Loayza

Other Thorfinn saying "mother" is kind of hilarious. I'd probably do the same thing if I was in his shoes 😂

Jet Man

Yeah just was probably the wrong qualifier - even though I think it’s the best part of the show

Sam

Monster would also be a great choice as well, I love it to death. I’d be elated with either tbh. Hopefully one of the two are next, but in due time as well if such is not the case. No qualms with whatever we roll with next 👍

- JinRosé -

Thanks for doing this as the voting system, otherwise you would be reacting to Konosuba 😂

JT

Fate/Zero is great!

Edgar Lopez

My recommendation is still Fate/Zero! Great writing in that as well

Szayel H

Monster for actual slow mature storytelling with one of the best villains ever or Fate zero for more epic and flashy but mature vibes

ES-SALHI

Monster

James Long

Fate is more than animation and fights but that would be my number one pick, though all the ones you listed are good too

SinuHan

That would be great to watch. Fate has some great writing, dope animation and wonderful osts. I'd also be happy with Monster but my number one pick is Fate Zero

SinuHan

seconding Ghost in the Shell: SAC

Juno

Thanks for this whole series reaction Tony! It's been a fun journey seeing one of my favorite stories again and it was awesome seeing you enjoy it too.

FullHeart

Cowboy Bebop would easily be the best anime I can think of to replace Vinland that you’d almost definitely like. I mean jazz-inspired space cowboys is still cool to this day and the animation and art still look phenomenal despite coming out 26 years ago. As an added bonus it has easily the best English dub of all time.

AussieBoy

My suggestion for follow-up is "To Your Eternity" also called "Fumetsu no Anata e"

FullHeart

As a suggestion for voters, it might be easier for Tony to like a suggestion rather than repeating the same one with a different comment, and if you want to elaborate or support a suggestion, just reply to the original.

James

LotL is a great shout. I need my season 2!

Vinland Saga is a phenomenon, one of the greatest trips the medium has to offer and I’m glad to have re-enjoyed the ride along with ya Tony. Very pleased with every reaction to see your takes on the story’s developments, and how it’s affected you even just in the day to day lol. Fate/Zero is my replacement nomination. I’m sure it’ll be another great time for your viewing pleasure; it’s engrossing, it’s mature but splendidly crafted, and it’s just damn awesome.

- JinRosé -

omg... what a unexpected forgotten gem

d_swordfish

Also one more I’m surprised hasn’t come up more - One Punch Man - but that feels like a good Mob replacement

Sam

The guy putting on a sword is young askeladd from the past and the last guy is shaved thorfinn with short hair.

Meru Tenchin

I'll pitch in for the monster gang.

Ezequiel Archila

Evangelion Fate Zero Cowboy Bebop Evangelion and Bebop are classics / must watches Fate is just cool animation / fights

Sam

OGene

Recommendation: Fate/Zero Basic Premise: Mages summon people from our actual history/myths/legends to fight in a hunger games style competition/War to get their wish granted by a mystical Holy Grail. Reason for the rec: its a very mature show and the themes, dialouge, OST, the show delivers is all top notch stuff. Would be shocked if Tony watches this and does not put it on the top 10/close to top 10 animes he's watched

Haiiro

Thing with the kids killed it for me. Apart from the music and animation it seems very mediocre. Couldn’t finish it. So if it wins at some point gonna have to skip out.

Sarai

Arcane for sure! Great music, second season soon, amazing IP with an amazing world.

Monster, it's a complete manga with a fine adaptation. Berserk is great but the anime adaptations are scuffed and unfortunately the author died before completing the manga, and yes they have someone else writing it now but it's not the same

Sarai

Ghost in the Shell would be nice for replacing Terminator 0 as they have identical vibes, but it's something he would need to pick on his own since it'll probably never win in a poll. I would also recommend starting with the 1995 movie as that has been so influential in Hollywood, and is one of the more philosophical anime out there.

James

Haikyuu, as your first sports anime and the best one out there in my opinion. The music in this anime is fucking god tier and I know for a fact you’ll love it. Even if it doesn’t get selected now, I don’t mind cuz I know someday you’ll watch it and I’ll be here to see your reactions to this masterpiece of an anime!

Aidy

There was a studio change from WIT studio to mappa technically, but in actuality the team that did Vinland S1 just did S2 under Mappa instead of WIT, the staff changes were pretty minor, even compared to the average Staff changes an anime has from season to season

At the end of this episode, you saw Thors, Helga, Leif, and Askeladd at the age when they began their individual journeys, and now, Thorfinn is going to start his.

Loved being a part of the reactions to this show. There is something about seeing someone else enjoy the same thing as you in real time that makes it so special. Can't wait to see what comes next

Suhas M

I THINK the guy putting on the sword at the end is supposed to be a flashback of young Askellad? The hairstyle doesn't match entirely to Thorfin's look at the last frame and he doesn't seem to be weiring the cuirass, which was more Askelad's visual theme.

LegionaresCZ

Link Click

PartyCat

The guy with the sword in the ending is just a flashback of Young Askeladd, also thats him keeping a flower on his mother’s grave.. and the guy staring at the camera is indeed our boy Thorfinn in the present!

Aidy

Are you going to be doing reactions to the trailers of the recommendations were giving and then decide?

Arcane is not a bad idea, even though its not technically anime. And its second season is just behind corner.

Oregarot

Berserk (1997)

Xoulium

Fate/Zero for sure

Matteo Morellato

Cowboy Bebop (every work of Shin'ichirō Watanabe is heavily influenced by a set of music genres, so I think it would be a great fit for Tony)

Ranking of Kings would be good candidate to replace Vinland Saga due to unique art style great action scenes and has a great deal of character developments it is also on the short end with only 24 episodes for its first season and additional 12 episodes for second season

Ghost in the shell was the first anime I watched where I realized anime could have serious story telling. Something more than simple story telling about cool fights. Something that makes me think. That's why, even though better shows have come out since, it is still my #1.

Jet Man

Not anime, but Arcane is a fantastic animated series.

Iivo

Hunter x Hunter (2011) is my nomination, though i am not sure if there is a trailer. Hopefully the music alone has sold you on trying it out, though as you've said, even if it doesn't come up in the next poll and win, it will probably come up eventually since you intend to do this for the long term.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Keyword: brain protein. You used this phrase to describe Steins:Gate but also Vinland Saga. This is the first show that came to mind that qualifies for all the criteria on this patreon. The criteria of being a brain protein type show, something I think you will like, something that the audience will like rewatching etc. Its the most pure and in-depth Science Fiction TV show in existence in my opinion, not in terms of pure realism but in mind-blowing ideas and philosophical themes. On the surface it might just seem like an episodic cop tv drama but its so much more than that.

Tailor made for Tony's tastes imo.

Haikyuu, it’s a sports anime but it would be refreshing to watch, it’s a piece of life plus it’s a really GREAT anime, definitely top 5 animes FOR ME

Overlord or Parasyte

Definitely Monster between those two. It's fully adapted and complete. Berserk is not, you have the 1997 anime which is a bit dated (still good) but it only adapts a small oart of the story, it's just better to read the source material. I would prefer Kaiji (or some of the other recommendations here like Psycho Pass or Fate Zero) as my recommendation, they just go faster to the "oh shit" episodes. Monster (the anime) is a good show but it's a slow burn, meaning that personally it would be a bit boring to watch until you get to the good parts. The slow pacing is not really a problem imo if you bingewatch it but obviously that isn't an option for you. But hey, maybe the slow pacing will not be a problem for you but I'm just saying to keep that in mind, this is just my opinion and it might not mean anything to you. Regardless, I'm 99% sure you will enjoy the show if you go through it.
