Re:Zero Ep 1

Subaru just went through a portal and literally questioned it for maybe... 6 seconds and was just "aight ookkk🤘" LMAO Wild neutrality of acceptance lul. Oh shit, dragons and demibreeds!? BET Ohhhh shit magic users, Let'sgoooooooo 😂

Re:Zero Ep 1

Comments

true, although some of it also sort in "it's a an act /mask" behaviour territory I'd argue, point being that it's intentionally written that way

Retcon-naissance

the same can be said about Re:Zero sort of since the first cour of season 3 is gonna start airing next month and if he sticks with the show he might catch the second cour live

Retcon-naissance

Can’t wait for episode 15 which in my opinion is one of if not the best anime episode of all time

mr cool kid

Oh no, it's not like I'm asking for no talking, just more understanding is all, just a bit less dismissive. Not exactly too much fun seeing you get fed up and trying to shame fictional characters lol

Skeletan

My guy... you gotta moreso understand its fiction. We are 28+ titles of anime on this Patreon already... I am into some more than others. It's a reaction... this is a reaction channel. I can't just sit here and say nothing to the camera. lul

DrumRollTony

Think ya just gotta get with the program moreso my guy, remember that this is an entirely different culture on display

Skeletan

Yeah that makes me sad too, would have been awesome if he were able to finish season 1 by the time the 2nd releases this November, so he could ride the hype train a little lol

Chelly

Your time will come im sure, but im happy it won cuz its one of my favs

SinuHan

Honestly I was really intimidated to start this anime because people always tell me it's going to be long. I think Naruto really took it out of me lol and I only watched the story line, almost none of the filler. So thank you 😊 I'm going in not knowing anything either 👍😅

Shawtty

pretty sure it's got a decent shot to replace Vinland Saga now that he's finished watching the second season

Retcon-naissance

moster would have been the perfecct show for tony

Tauren Rogue

Not sure how many more of these types of anime you're gonna get, but one day you'll also get to hear about the beloved isekai trope of "Truck-kun".

Icychiller

Ughhhh, such a shame this barely won over Arcane. We were so close

Микита Кривогуб

This being slower is subjective no? I love both shows but at least in season 1, Re: Zero was never slower than SG’s first twelve episodes (for me) except for maybe an episode or two and i feel like even thats a stretch.

SinuHan

True, I can't think of one anime that has bad music.

SKAOG

Some none spoiler points about this show - Its a slow builder, people say steins gate is a slow builder, this is slower. - It can be cheesy at times, especially near the start. This show however has a lot of emotional focus, and as the story builds it starts to loose some of the cheesy tones and gets a lot more serious.

william watson

Ooooooooo thx!

DrumRollTony

Old Man Rom's voice is heard in a lot of anime but you're definitely recognizing him as Sverkel from Vinland Saga

Marthan

Thx for the info

DrumRollTony

And I'll add onto this as well, with no spoilers, just discussing what's already happened. The convenience store scene at the beginning is important because it showed Subaru looking at manga, so this tells the audience that he (as a character) knows about Isekais (the other world tropes mentioned above). So when he does go to the other world, he starts looking around for all of those tropes, expecting all of those things to happen to him but none of it does. It would be like showing someone reading Harry Potter and the next thing is them teleported to a wizard school. The first thing wouldn't be "why I am here?", it would be "wait, am I the chosen one about to learn magic?! what house am I going to sorted into?!" etc... because they'd be focusing too much on living out their own fantasies first before the reality sets in. In this case that "reality" is Subaru's death. Not only that, but most Isekai take place with the MC dying in the opening, usually hit by a car. So Subaru walking into the road and looking around and there is no traffic is kind of funny because the audience would be expecting the death scene right then. They let it hang long enough for you to realize it's not happening and then he blinks and opens his eyes in the other world. The first episode is a constant fake out and deviation from almost all the tropes of it's genre. I mean, they literally have Subaru chasing the Isekai tropes, trying to find them, until the writer literally kills the MC without him finding a single trope. The writer is kind of flexing on its competition and showing how you can make a really compelling narrative without relying on the tropes. Also, it's shown a little wonky in the anime but if you didn't catch it, the scene where you said "is this in a basement? or the car trunk?" was clips of the first scene where Subaru died being overlaid onto him walking around. We then get the "context" when he dies the first time. Re:Zero story writing is insane and it's one of my top 5 animes. I clicked on this video the second I saw it and can't wait for you to see more! It is a slow burn but I love it.

CdrCain

Fun fact this is animated by the same studio that animated Steins;Gate :D

AussieBoy

Has there been an anime with terrible music up to this point. Even shows Tony didn’t like have had stellar music

Jack Allen

When it comes to editing and stuff, I'd really recommend you read up on cloud computing and things like that. It'd perfectly suit your need when it comes to the availability of computing power; you wouldn't be so limited in that regard. Just food for thought! Love!

GodZio

I always thought the stealth penalty was from the noise. Can't exactly be quiet covered in steel, unless it's designed to be so.

Plz Help

Did yall want me to be quiet during reactions and have no sense of humor????

DrumRollTony

Vivy was epic

DrumRollTony

Also, worth noting that the the investment in this story is quite high. The current point in source material (written novels) is likely another 10 years away worth of story in terms of new anime seasons. They've been doing new season every 4 years. I'm not caught up in the source material but expect questions / plot threads to span across years of anime material. Fortunately you have 2 seasons in the chamber. Lastly, the author is a legend who wrote the story for Vivi (the ai robots anime you watched) so at the very least you can be confident there is bigger than life story here.

Dolfy

Homeboy spawned and was like fuck it wwe ball

Unknowable

Yikes "how about a drink of stfu". Saw that one coming. Top 5 show for me but if that type of dialogue bothers you, you'd better get used to it if you plan on sticking through it. Lots of characters talk fast in this show. Not all the time but throughout for sure. Either way, hope you enjoy

Dolfy

Also keep in mind subaru is self aware how cringy he is and understands its a character flaw of his.

Nusutto

Did you miss the poll?👀

DrumRollTony

This addition is a pleasant surprise, I personally enjoy it a lot, but it does go to cheesy town at times. Definitely not for everyone, but I'm here for it.

Ezequiel Archila

Ahhhh. This explanation makes sense.

DrumRollTony

Just to elaborate on the whole transported to another world trope, it's basically something that developed partially as a way for inexperienced writers to avoid having to learn how to do exposition well. When writing a story in an entirely fantasy setting, such as Frieren, there's a disconnect between the protagonist (who likely knows a lot about the world) and the viewer (who does not). This genre brings those in sync, so it doesn't require a lot of writing skill to make things natural when something needs to be explained to the audience about how the world works. There have been thousands of stories written around this trope, a lot of them not very creative. As a result, there are common themes like an unpopular loner getting randomly summoned into another world, usually by some princess who needs the protagonist to slay the demon lord to save the world, and they're usually self-insert fantasies where the main character doesn't have much of a personality and is blessed with power, wealth, and women. These are just sort of the default of the genre, with only minor spins on the concept mixed in with rare exceptions. Subaru, an unpopular loner who has read many of these, is approaching the world in that context. This is why he accepts it so readily, and is part of why he's particularly cringey at the start - he believes he's the main character in such a story and the world and characters aren't entirely real to him at this point.

Anorus

yet another anime with incredible music

SKAOG

The setup for this show is based on the assumption that he is a japanese youth who is very aware of anime/manga where a character gets summoned into another world, and that scenario is so common it's become its own genre: Isekai. So it is still a bit odd even with that context but he basically has experienced so many stories with that setup that he's just accepting it as a given that he should be fine and get all these perks and not be too worried about his predicament. Also really looking forward to your journey with this. One of my top anime. Some parts are hard to watch but to me it's similar to Stein's Gate when it's hard to watch, as in things get rough for characters but the writing and story is good, versus characters just being randomly weird or annoying for some kind of comedy bit that adds nothing to the story. I think you'll really enjoy it based on what you've gotten hooked on in other shows.

Nick K

5:20 so its actually crazy about plate armor but we engineered the fuck out of that stuff. By the time we got to full plate armor in europe we had them designed so well they had better maneuverability than your actual body, and the weight distribution good enough that it didn't feel like you were wearing too much. You could sprint, roll, do whatever you wanted in them. Shit was actually crazy good. For like D&D stuff when we do stealth penalties for armors we're actually making them a bit worse than they were IRL but it fits the genre

FullHeart

Hey Tony thanks for the info at intro! You won't be missing anything btw by watching the shorter episodes so no one is going to complain and it should be all good anyways. Directors Cut, for the most part, is just two episodes edited together. The ONE TIME you should watch the directors cut is an after credits scene in the last episode of Season 1 which was added to help transition into season 2. Looking forward to this one thanks for the reaction!

FullHeart

Im not sure if you’ll like this show. Definitely more than FMAB yes but I dont know if its your type. Something like Monster or even Fate Zero would have been a lot more enjoyable for you i think. However I love this show and Id love to be wrong, so I hope you enjoy it. The soundtrack is beautiful I will say, so whatever you think about the rest of the anime, I look forward to what you think of the music.

SinuHan

Let's gooo! This is my favourite anime. I hope you like it!

ti

I don't think you will enjoy it, but let's see.

Elite968

Be prepared, sometimes this show gets cheesy! But in my opinion the composer, Kenichiro Suehiro is almost as great/as great as Hiroyuki Sawano with his body of work, particularly with this OST

Chris Johnson

This show is one of my fav`s its sometimes weird, but the writing and music is some of the best. Amazing! And new season in october.

Jonas Teigen

Yeah I don't think it makes much of a difference which he watches, I remember it being a big letdown when there were very few improvements over the original run.

Anorus

Most of these characters are aware of the isekai genre themselves, so they kinda just accept it when it happens to them. I think its so the whole new world bewilderment is too much of a focus on their character. Its like not having captain america constantly commenting on 2000s tech and just have him accepting almost everything

Nusutto

You'll def get context as to why Subaru just doesnt give a shit when he's randomly put into this situation. A big part of Re:Zero is buying into the characters and their growth. The author is pretty good at leaving no one behind character wise, so any oddities they have are just the starting line for the cast as you move through the series *Also the voice for Rom is the old principal from JJK, so you might recognize it from there

Danyul

Wild

DrumRollTony

That's one of the tropes about the Isekai genre (also known as "in another world"). Most of them don't even bother explaining or have the main character wonder why/how, they just accept it.

Xoulium

"Guy gets transported to a fantasy world" is a very common genre in anime. Usually like, a guy gets hit by a truck and ends up reincarnated in another world or something. It's funny that this show just puts him in there and expects the audience to accept it lol, but honestly the genre is so common it's not even that much of a stretch

JoeyGuy7

God that sound... I forgot about that sound... HUEEEUGH.

LegionaresCZ

I agree with the DC having slightly better animation but I don't like how they changed the soundtrack for some specific scenes

Daniel Diaz

You can let me know if I'm wrong (without out actually saying how, just that I am wrong) but I'm pretty sure the final episode of the DC just has a scene that is then at the very beginning of season 2, so he wouldn't be missing out.

Nick K

Is this your first isekai?

Fuji Nami

You will have to remind me

DrumRollTony

you should watch the director's cut for the very last episode btw tony. its spoilers to say why however. in general the director's cut has updated animation quality that thee studio could not achieve when it was releasing weekly back in 2016

sahil signorile

Guy gets transported to whole different world and goes "you know what I wasn't really liking the last one that much"

Renegade

very excited for this reaction series. I think some parts will be grateing for you early on but if you can stick through it it really hits its stride in the later half of season 1

sahil signorile

All re zero fans are now just waiting for the ep15 reaction

Bautista

oh shit! RE:ZEROOO

Szayel H

This show ramps up the time looping quite a bit 😂😂

Bautista

Man this anime is a journey
