So when the caretaker is talking about the incident that made the little girl afraid of mass transit, saying that it was chemicals not guns the attackers used, that's totally a reference to the sarin gas attack in the Tokyo subways in the 90s....also it's crazy the stuff that sticks in your brain about world events from when you were a kid lol

I don't know if I'd say it's much like this show but if you want another show with insanely violent badass action, phenomenal story and world building, and a good dose 80's/90's nostalgia I cannot recommend enough the Castlevania show also on Netflix. It's not technically an anime but is nonetheless one of my personal favorite anime of all time. It's kind of an interesting case where it was animated and produced by an American studio and it's original language is English yet it's a way better anime then a lot of actual anime nowadays.

Oh, yea. Uzumaki would be great. I didnt read manga so cant say anything in advance, but if Tony starts recording it, I would be on board too.

At the moment, I cannot think of another anime quite like this where you have a robot boogeyman chasing down our main characters.
However, if you want something on the more spooky/ominous/horror side of things, we got an anime coming out at the end of this month called Uzumaki. It is based on the legendary graphic novel by Junji Ito. It has been 5 years in the making and I am quite hyped for it. The series will only run for 4 episodes, so they put a lot of time and care into each of those episodes.
If you want something more science fiction like this... You could always check out Vivy: Fluorite Eye's song.
