Vinland Saga S2 Ep 9

This is the best episode of anime I have seen thus far in my anime journey.

Vinland Saga S2 Ep 9

Comments

I think what I find so incredible about this episode is that its essentially like 20 minutes of visualizing thorfins guilt, why he feels it, how it feels, and then the decision of what to do with it. It's such an interesting portrayal that I think other series would give the audience through dialogue or action, but this is pure visual representation. Incredible. You cannot achieve this exact feeling in live action, you could get close, but never quite the same.

Shucks

My favorite episode so far

plz never mind, truly thx for ur VSaga reaction uploadings. I'm really so lucky to know this ch and want more people to know here indeed. did recommending comment on Y-tube a little still though. Well, we individual who live with peace-feeling usually don't like to harm unknown by no meaning, not for being arrested, and it is often said that many livings tend to avoid battle naturally. There maybe no easy answer for fighting, for depending on the case or the difinition itself. but at least, I think If all human is hating others animal, such species should have been comply destroyed already.

Isa Naka

Hell, idk how you held it in during that Iggy and Abdul scene in JJBA Part 3, shit gets me every time man 😢

Ethan Hines

We’ll see! Maybe just the slightest tear lol

Ethan Hines

Lol I'm not gonna cry on camera. Not gonna happen

This anime has made me cry more times than any other thing I’ve ever watched. The only thing close is AoT. But I’ve cried more to Vinland Saga. The scene where Thorfinn is just hanging from the cliff and crying over his victims is absolutely heart wrenching. A lot of what makes this show so special is the voice acting. Thorfinn’s voice actor Yuto Uemara is insanely talented. The way he cries makes it feel like he’s actually living through Thorfinn’s trauma. It’s incredible. That combined with the beautiful and simplistic soundtrack by Yutaka Yamada does so much to immerse you into the atmosphere of a scene. The author of Vinland Saga, Makoto Yukimura is an expert at writing these complex characters and making you care so much about them in such a short period of time. Especially this season. And god damn does the guy know how to write father-son characters. I don’t want to say too much; just be prepared. I’ve only watched a couple of your series reactions, and I haven’t seen you cry yet. 「P A I N L A N D ・ S A G A」 as I like to call it, just might be the one to break you, lol.

Tangent Tony!!!🔥🔥🔥 I also believe that you are inadvertently teaching people how to view differently, music-wise and life experience-wise. I don't think that many are accustomed to changing settings in anime or life application. You speak of it all the time in many videos. For example, the Galnaryus video with the strings/orchestra pit. Or adjusting playing a gig to venue. You are taking all of that and applying it to anime, which is blowing my mind. Even with your tangents, you pick the right spots, about 80 to 90 percent of the time, to tastefully place something life changing.

There are certain anime I'd have to consider life changing. At least for me I'd honestly say I've seen some shows where over the course of watching it, I've changed as a person. And the anime definitely helped as motivation to change. That's kind of my top 5 anime list right now. I'd consider each to be life changing, so may as well share them. 1) Code Geass 2) Monster 3) Clannad/After Story 4) Naruto/Shippuden 5) Vinland Saga... I have other favorites too, but not others quite as 'life - changing', at least for me.

Vinland Saga in both manga and anime is easily one of my favorite pieces of media ever. The way it builds its central theme of anti violence and striving to essentially "fight your battles peacefully" through showing in season 1 the absolute monstrous force that violence in the world is to then be able to convincingly say/show that violence is still not okay and that you still don't have any enemies is something absolutely remarkable. I can't even summarize what this series has made me think and feel without writing an essay on it or without speaking on certain ideas and events that are yet to be shown at this point in the story. Even if I can't totally coherently put into words what I think, what I can say is I'm on board with the author's philosophy of refusing to have enemies.

Levi Blair

Vinland Saga is certainly one of those stories that stick with you as more than entertainment. It's one thing to be aware of the ideals it tries to portrait and another to see those play out in a story and how they shape the characters and viewers. Peakland Saga!

dg_2drunk

I hold both Vinland Saga and Attack on Titan in such high regard, I also try not to compare the two. They're both filled with so many great moments, emotional stories, voice acting, and memorable characters, so they are both top tier to me personally.

I think I have engaged with other media that tackles big questions and feelings like this, but they are rare. Generally a lot of viewers will struggle to connect with these kinds of ideas, but this season of anime is honestly one that went really far in connecting a lot of people with some really deep, serious reflections. In that regard it is quite extraordinary.

Mator

This ep onwards made Vinland saga one of the best most under hyped seasons of anything I’ve ever seen

Mihir Siddartha

I definitely see this episode as a huge turning point for Thorfinn's character. The moment i realised that he had been having that same dream every time Einar woke him up because of his screaming is 🤯 Now Thorfinn can finally walk in his father's footsteps. Heartwrenching and soulrending episode, loved your reaction mate! Great job! I wanna talk so much about Thorfinn but since I've read most of the AMAZING manga my opinions are shaded by what I know of what's to come so all I will say is: Nothing I've read has ever made me feel the way Vinland Saga does!

Isaac Noël

I definitely feel the same as you. I mean, I really loved the badass fighting scenes in season 1 but if I have to pick my favorite between the two seasons, I would surely pick the second one. And (hoping that the manga keeps getting animated) everything coming after this season only keeps getting better, in my opinion. The mangaka really did a great job in making a prologue (whole season 1) that becomes a solid foundation for everything coming after. With Askeladd being the "true" protagonist in season one, he becomes the factor that drives Thorfinn's "late" charakter development, after he only kept developing hatred in the first season he now is not only on a path to become a true warrior but also a true protagonist. And watching this development is just insanly amazing <3

Marien Panta

Such a peak episode, there's more great stuff to come. And trust me, some later episodes give you even more to think about.

Jarod S

this anime keeps giving i’m truly grateful for the writers

Wizzy

Vinland genuinely had an impact on me in which no other piece of media ever has. It actually made me step back and make me examine the way I view violence as a whole. It's easy to step back and say violence is necessary in life especially when you are far from the conflict. Thorfinns view of never hurting someone may be naive but it is something to strive for even if you fail. It is absolute peak and tied for my favorite manga with Berserk and One Piece.

Ryan Pebeck

Omg I had no idea u were a fellow fist of the North Star enjoyer. Respect +1000

Parampreet Singh

This ep is when I started referring to this show as Peakland Saga lol

Frizen

i think that's why its so highly rated, as not many anime, or even shows can get you to rethink your life or give you a new perspective

SKAOG

It may sound cliche, but this is one of the few animes that actually changed the way I looked at life.

Katakuriko

I have no enemies.

Jet Man

The author is Makoto Yukimura and he wanted to write a specific story with these contrasting ideas, which lead him to Vikings being the best way to tell it based on their extremely violent culture.

Owen Morris

I agree that as an anime only Vinland watcher this is the peak episode.

Chris Johnson

We haven’t gotten to it in the anime yet, but there’s a character who gets introduced later who really reinforces this new character arc that Thorfinn is going through, and hammers home the theme of the anime which you’re starting to understand. Cannot wait for season 3.

Avalon

Easily my favourite epsiode in vinland saga and a turning point for me. I read the rest of the manga after this and bought the whole collection and can easily say it's my fav story in manga.

ES-SALHI

honestly I was one of the people who was originally underwhelmed by S2 because like you said, I was expecting more of S1. But rewatching it again, it really is a different type of masterpiece. This episode was amazing

An Nguyen

This and one other episode in this season are some of my favorite episodes in this entire series so far. I feel like Pacifism is a hard thing to portray in media without making it look goofy sometimes, but this series knocks it out of the park. Cannot wait to see your reaction to rest of the season and I hope we get a season 3 soon because the manga still gets better from here on believe it not! THIS is where Vinland Saga TRULY starts. Everything beforehand was just the prologue.

Alejandro Pupo

This was the episode that solidified season 2 as a masterpiece for me, and we still have more highs from here, god I love this arc so much.

AussieBoy

thorfinn learning to use his hands to create and nurture life in the farm is such an incredible counter point to his previous actions

cue

Me and some friends were watching this weekly. After we finished this episode we talked for a solid hour about it. One of the best pieces of media in general ive ever seen

Hurrcane

Vinland Saga is one of the best pieces of entertainment I’ve seen/read in the last 10 years or so forget just Anime. It’s something I try to get people who wouldn’t normally watch anime to watch. It’s a beautiful and compelling meditation on what violence does to the soul. On a micro scale this episode in particular starts to explore the path out or up. Thors had an easier road than Thorfin. He had a wife and a child, a family that compelled his self-reflection and rejection of violence. Thorfin has been alone for a long time but here we see the beginnings of his formation of a “family” as he and Einar limp back to the farm together, their bruises and injuries a symbol of the effect violence has had on the both of them.

Cronshaw

Yeah, this episode cemented Vinland saga in my top 5

Suhas M

For me, this episode was when I knew the show had transcended the medium. What a masterpiece.

Peyrino

https://youtu.be/Z7BH6YQeWoI?si=WLWMqwTPzuusLE_4 this is a short interview with the author himself about how and why he wrote Vinland saga. No spoilers as well, so you can check this out.

Lucipurr

Here we gooo! One of the best episodes I have ever seen in my 5 years of watching anime.
