It's definitely no secret that music writing within a culture is understood most by said culture.

Love your reaction on this! Although Tony I know you hate this but I have to say it is hard to fully appreciate this piece if you do not understand Japanese and its culture. The Lyrics is almost written in Haiku(俳句), a form of poem in japenese, it has a fixed form of 5, 7, 5 syllables, the whole song's rhythm and dynamic is designed around it. The lyric itself is base on a story in an historical poem from 万葉集 written by 穂積皇子 a prince on the day his loved princess died (also his sister with one father but different mother). The title itself comes from 平家物語 originally means when Heike lost to the army of Genji and have to flee Kyoto. In the song it use it as the princess that have to left her lover. Also about the clearing the throat part, SUIS (the vocalist) do not know it was actually recording at the time, but N-BUNA think it sounds cute so just kept it there.

Tony, thank you so much for reviewing Miyako Ochi! Your video really help us Yorushika fans understand and enjoy their songs more than we already did! This band is really something else, and we can't wait to have you expand our knowledge to appreciate more about them. Looking forward to your future videos!

I've vibed to this song so many times on my way to work in the morning. I'm no musician, so I had zero idea why I enjoyed it so much. It's great getting an actual musicians input and understanding the intricacies going on in a seemingly "simple" song.

Yorushika always brings me warmth, like a mini relaxing summer vacation in each song, flavored with happiness, longing, and a small hint of bittersweet knowing it's temporary

Ryo

I love how many amazing songs I get to find just for watching this channel. That was incredible. Thanks for all you do Tony.

Yorushika are so good. Another thing to thank Frieren for lol I’d never heard of them until Haru came out as the Frieren op but now they’re one of my favorites

Sam

Great as always. For the next Yorushika track I reckon Tony would get a lot out of “451”.
