Vinland Saga S2 Ep 8

How do they keep getting deeper into the texture of this story???
I can't say enough good things about this anime.

In case you forgot, the woman Thorfinn saw near the end was the one who brushed Thorfinn's hair and was told to run away by Thorfinn (season 1).

Btw it’s alright to talk a lot about the episode at the end. You don’t have to apologize for it. We want to hear your thoughts.

Next episode is my favorite of Season 2 and quite possibly one of my favorite episodes of anything I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait for you to see it.

You can be sure that Thorfinn and Einar never met because besides them being almost the same age, Einar lived in north England and Askeladd's gang was only active around the south and east shores. The point of that sequence imo is showing how Thorfinn begins to humanise all the people he met in his past, the people he killed blindly and even Askeladd.

Personally I have no problem for you pausing the show because I want to hear every opinion you have with it, and you'll have a field day next episode.

btw, Trash Taste held a tournament style competition for their favourite anime, and Vinland Saga won against Attack on Titan, One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Mob Psycho 100, JoJo etc., so it just shows how incredibly good Vinland Saga is. That is very interesting!

The weird music choice part you mentioned in the ending song was completely removed in the official release version. Its hard to find the reason unless you Reaaally go digging for it. This was a comment year ago by a manager of the Artist who sang the song. Might give you some insight to if/when you do get to the ed reaction: "I manage LMYK and can give some insight into why the 89sec anime version and full-length song are slightly different. The anime version was recorded many months before the full-length song, which is normal these days for anime OP & ED. We used all the original sounds and vocals for the full version and added strings and horns and additional vocal sections including a bridge. The differences you hear are because it was mixed by a different mix engineer who had to accommodate the new strings and horns and give them space to audibly exist which slightly changed the overall balance. This was a calculated decision by producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Sony might release the shorter anime version on Spotify, etc., in about a month."

Peakland Saga! Honestly, rewatching as a very visual person, I notice a lot more of the thematic storytelling in environment and passing of the seasons... In the very beginning of this season when we meet Thorfinn, hes chopping trees and its just... barren, dead bits of wood all over the ground... almost like all the people hes killed and hurt on his path of revenge. But as we progress and we finally get to planting this field, you can see the change in the environment and how it almost correlates with Thorfinns inner growth. The crops that sprouted and their genuine excitement, Thorfinn beginning to open up about his past and talk about his trauma a little more with Einer... Only for the crops to be trampled and uprooted. This is actually very accurate to what recovery from ptsd looks like, when you start to heal you get a lot of unpleasant flashbacks and resurfaced memories. There is a lot of 2 steps forward 1 step back with healing from major trauma like this; The mangaka did such an excellent job on their research and authenticity of such storytelling here. Major props to them.

“If you’re empty, then you can fit anything inside you. In fact, it’s better to be empty if you want to be reborn.” This quote is so amazing and poignant. Reframing Thorfinn’s loss of identity and purpose as a chance to find something new to drive him and become a different person, just phenomenal stuff. Next episode is a highlight of the season and one of the best episodes in the show imo so I’m looking forward to your reaction! Also the next opening starts on episode 13 so we’ve got 4 more episodes left of this one.

AussieBoy

oh same! super excited to see the reaction on that one haha

Well said, Tangent Tony. 10/10

The next OP change will be S2 Ep 13. It's my favorite opening, and done by same band as the first one - "Survive Said the Prophet". Gonna be really cool when you get there.

FullHeart

You can be sure they didn't find themselves in the past. They are practically the same age (Einar is like one year older). Thorfinn was probably still in Iceland when Einar was attacked as a kid. You'll find out about what Thorfinn ''forgot'' next episode.

Without spoiling much, the next episode is one of the highlights of this season for me. Can't wait to see your reaction to it

Sverkel truly is a good man. You can tell he's seen and heard a lot of shit during his long life. Opening two debuts in ep13.
