2024-07-13 20:46:23 +0000 UTCI'm not sure there's many anime covering the same sort of historical events, I think that's more popular in the west with live action shows. I do know, however, of an anime that has similar vibes and a story kinda like Canute's; Berserk, specifically the Golden Age arc. I think the 1998 Berserk Anime could be a great show to react to on here. It's a story set in a medieval world with a few fantasy elements spread throughout like demons and monsters. The original Manga is considered some of the very best of the medium and along with Vagabond and Vinland Saga it's part of the Big 3 of "Seinen", stories aimed at adults with mature themes, heavy violence and nuanced plot beats that don't always result in a happy ending. Berserk has some of the realest, most human characters in fiction I've seen and a story just as gripping and intense as Vinland Saga.
