Vinland Saga S2 Ep 4

This was peak artistry in the elements of storytelling. The last 5 mins were just amazing.

This might come off as a bit pedantic but Attack on Titan was the first work Hajime Isayama had ever had published but not ever wrote. He worked on cartoon design (anime/manga) in both high school and college (even more broadly practiced it as early as elementary school) and was submitting works to contests throughout both high school and college. While starting AOT at 22 is not a lifetime of creating to get to that point the point is still there that his first manga wasn't AOT and it took him a hefty amount of time and other works to get to that first and absolutely amazing published work. Some people do have a gift for this stuff but it's way beyond that and he had plenty of writing he had done before that which grew him to that point. Sorry if this came off as overly nit picking but in my opinion its important to point that any of these people don't just have their first works in any medium be an AOT or Vinland Saga even if its the first we ever see, there is still a long road of works before these that got them there and its their unseen/heard works that got them there.

Good point

Interesting and very subtle callback (imo) to discrimination at the end. Thorfinn is just like the raiders that killed Einar's family, yet after spending so much time with him in unison, he says "You didn't kill my family", because he discriminated.

I was also just thinking about what you said that people spend their whole lives creating to finally write something like this. I think there's definitely something to that. However the author of Vinland Saga, Makoto Yukimura, has only written a couple other manga, and only one other series which was much shorter than this. Attack on Titan was the first manga Hajime Isayama ever wrote, and he started it when he was just 22 years old. Whatever it is that gives people the gift to create stories like this, I just feel fortunate to be able to experience and appreciate it.

Season 2 is about answering the question Askeladd left Thorfinn with before his death. "How do you plan to live your life?"

Ken Shufflebottom

It’s funny how in season 1 we see Thorfinn almost kill a girl for TALKING while he was sleeping, and now this episode we see Einar almost choke him to completion.

God its so good

I'm so glad you're appreciating what this season is doing. Not that I thought that you wouldn't, but so many people keep dissing this season, cause it's so different from the 1st one, it's Crazy... Not everything must be about cool fights...

PennyQuill

I think it's mainly people who expected more of the same from season 1 and since they were looking specifically for that, were disappointed

An Nguyen

Yeah. Keep it 💯 bro. Respect.

I totally agree that not every episode warrants the level of analysis as this one. However, I do think that viewers enjoy hearing even a few short sentences about whatever's on your mind from what you just watched. We watch your videos for YOU after all, tangent Tony is our favorite :)

Lulu

Not only Thorfinn said thank you, he also said Im sorry to Einar. Never heard he said any of those words to anybody

Mirrorline

Lots of comments about doing more 'thoughts at the end' type of thing. Yeah, it's cool but here is the thing. That happened because of THIS anime. The content HAS to be this good to get that kinda response. When the writing is that top-notch it warrants that type of talk, you feel me?? I am just not experiencing that in anything else we are watching. Well TAD is starting to get really cool so hopefully that keeps going. But if I have to keep track of 9 characters all doing different things and with random political lines it's just a vibe kill and not interesting to me. Vinland Saga knows how to deliver on all levels and keep the viewer vested.

DrumRollTony

I would really love more thoughts on episodes at the end

ES-SALHI

Love the analysis at the end hopefully we see more of it 🔥🔥🔥

Meru Tenchin

I really appreciate the words you shared at the end of this episode. There was something you said in there that resonated with me. Thank you for all that you do.

Jet Man

So far I'm not seeing why some dislike this season. Maybe it's the lack of action so far but that's not the only aspect of an anime that can make or break it imo.

Highside

So so glad you are enjoying this season! I really felt like you would be able to because of the creative depth it has towards storytelling... You are in for a blast Tony!! This season just keeps getting better in that regard haha

Yuyu

Oh shit that's awesome. I didn't catch that

DrumRollTony

I'm seeing new stuff in this series with every rewatch. Granted it's like super obvious but the way Thorfinn says he doesn't remember how many he killed and the visuals are drawing parallels to not remembering how many trees he's chopped from Ketil's forest. Cool stuff.

Canute time.
