Thorkell is a great character: insane and living only to fight but also tremendously charismatic. He emanates joy even though it's violent and twisted. He's hard to dislike. His character fits in very well with the shows overall theme of pacifism. He's the personification of the lure of violence and battle.

2024-04-23 14:31:22 +0000 UTCThe author underlining Thorfinn's intense dislike towards war is very important since often times battle manga/anime tends to never acknowledge that. Like just how many heroes are often fine with severely injuring or even killing people without any lasting emotional turmoil. This is why I really like Vinland and it's humane approach to these topics Properly introducing Thorkell at the same time is pretty smart too since he brings in the color contrast. His character is fun but as soon as you start thinking about how he's genuinely enjoying destruction and violence like it's a weekend activity - what a nutcase right

He built up all 4 bars of his Log Dropper special meter and didn't want to waste them on an opponent with low HP.
