The approach I take is that imagine Pinnochios exist in our world, with intelligent and sentience like humans. They know the concept of hurting others and kindness. Some pinnochios hurt others despite knowing the law and sympathy. Shouldn't that Pinnochio be punished? If so,they should be protected by law the same. But with consideration of their physical limitations

Khin Wutyi

If you are familiar at all with the book Pinocchio, rather than just the Disney movie for example, you might consider it a mercy killing. That puppet went through some horrific ordeals in the original novel.

Elwood Short

Yay!! Murder!!! Woohoo!!!!

Simon Chilley

The only thing I can think with "vandalism" is that it might be a bit of a missed translation, too. Like maybe they used a legal term from Korean law that might also be translated like "destruction of property" which could be considered like vandalism but sounds more like what it would be if you were thinking of Pinocchio as an object. But... either way team murder. Oh no that sounds so bad. Hahaha

oh if you love this then you will love Debate Night and Bad Clue! they love physical games but they looooove mind games just as much! can’t wait for you to get to their more popular GoSe series. 🤩

Chichi

I completely agree. I think Minghao was fantastic in this episode, Woozi and Vernon too. I can't wait for more!!

Simon Chilley

Haha... I hope Seventeen know what damage they've done to family harmony across the globe

Simon Chilley

Yeah that was the same for me with Minghao's point. I think he nailed it. I think the whole thing is a false dichotomy. In my mind it's neither murder nor vandalism. I think it's very close to murder, morally speaking and I could be persuaded that it's functionally the same. I can't understand how vandalism is the right determination at all though. Killing a dolphin isn't vandalism, AFAIK. I understand the arguments, I just don't agree with them. This is a great concept and I suspect we are not the only people continuing to discuss it!!

Simon Chilley

I certainly understand that perspective and I think they did a good job of representing that position, especially Wonwoo. I don't think the question limits the scope as narrowly as you do, but I also think that's part of the genius of the question. There isn't enough information to determine a true right answer and so the discussion will change outcomes with different groups of people. Some of the questions it poses are quite challenging. Our discussion continued off camera for quite a while!

Simon Chilley

I’m still more on the side of it being vandalism because like Wonwoo, I’m thinking of the perspective of on how it will be tried in the current legal system. Given how both murder and vandalism have a distinct definition in terms of law. I always think of this kinds of questions on the viewpoint of what is current. Vernon for me was veering away from the main question/topic because he was more focused on the “justness” of the law. He even agreed that with the current law killing Pinnochio would only be tried as vandalism and then he was focused on laws and their unjustness afterwards, which for me was out of topic already.

Peach Jr

I think some members definitely just thought about how to argue the counterpoint and basing it in a current legal system - yeah, I get it. But I LOVE Minghao's point that IF we had Pinocchios the laws would exist. I love how you essentially were already thinking about the same types of arguments being presented before you continued the episode - like it is killing life but is it murder? What is the distinction being made? And I love how it being Seventeen they go with the majority and even Jun who did not TRULY become persuaded, knew he was the last holdout so he switched sides. Cutie Jun.

VERNON FOR PRESIDENT

irie

I really liked this episode. Got my brain turning! I was in the Murder side from start. Though I did understand what few of the Vandalism members were saying. But till the end I was in Murder side. My sister on the other hand was Vandalism from start till end. We ended up getting into a debate and our mother had to cools us off haha. Excited for the next week content. Also hope you get to check out Debate Night which is their illogical debate content. And Wonwoo is always the mediator for that :)

Priyanka Banerjee

The8 killed it in this one.

ann

Lol I just love that the PDs created a new debate theme episodes but make it logical this time around XD

Purple Spirit

minghao, woozi and vernon had the best points. as soon as minghao started talking i was sold even though i already agreed with the fact that it would be murder. the part where he says if something happened to your physical body and they inserted your brain into a robot would you no longer be human? was GOLD also the point abt how we would have more laws to protect Pinocchio if we as humans lived with him and other puppets/living beings like him longer. also loved dino with the definitions backing up his statements lol he did not come to play 😭 and they do a debate series already within going svt called debate night which wonwoo hosts and is the mediator! it’s so funny.

sincerely, nai. ♡

Yeah, this is a different format, and the topic is more serious, but they have done Debate episodes before (and also at Caratland) and Wonwoo is usually the moderator.

Yukime

This was an interesting new take on SVTs debate format! I can't wait until you guys reach their Debate Night series on your GoSe catchup, because it's all the fun of SVT debating like this but the rules for that series is you can't make logical arguments, only silly illogical ones -- as you can imagine it leads to lots of fun.

Ally

It was fun listening to both of your perspectives along with Seventeen’s 🤣

Liz
