Changes to the Patreon are live
Added 2019-12-02 22:07:12 +0000 UTCHello everyone!
BEFORE YOU READ ANY FURTHER, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT CHANGES ARE ONLY IN EFFECT FROM THIS POINT FORWARD! Older posts' tier levels will not be changed.
Whew.
Anyway, I am fairly proud of myself. Please, let me explain why.
It's taken me a really long time to fix the Patreon, and in that time, I listened to lots of opinions. Some of you gave me great ideas.
One of the biggest things I heard, and that I took to heart, was that people didn't want to be inconvenienced or to feel rejected. Within the constraints I had, I think I did the best that I could.
So first, let me tell you what I still need to work on, and what I'm doing:
-I still need to update the Patreon video, and I'm working on it
-I need to link Patreon to my discord. This should be done within the next 2 weeks
Now to some of the reasons I have wanted to change the Patreon in general. For those of you who have been with me from the beginning, you've seen things change over time, and this is just another change. When I started out, I could only suspect that I was building a career. As a result, some of the stuff I did was silly and/or campy.
Since I am a professional (lol) now, I feel like some of this doesn't really communicate who I am as an artist very well anymore, so I wanted to make a change. To be frank, you all inspire me and keep me motivated, and I respect you all. I felt like the goofy vibe I had going for the Patreon before was...not disrespectful, but not respectful enough.
Also, art is expensive. Every art piece I've commissioned has been pricey, and new covers are even more so. The cover for Cole Blooded cost more than I used to make in a month. I wanted to structure this Patreon in such a way that I won't need to mess with it again for a long, long time.
With that out of the way, I will give you the gist of all the changes, by reward tier.
$2 – BC blog posts
$3 – chapter updates and art. 'Nuff said
$5 – Writer and cover art tier – access to extra stuff including writing workshop articles and posts on creating new cover art
$10 – ebook access and listed by name in books as a thank you. Can vote on upcoming art
$20 – lore tier. Ability to talk about spoilers and suggest new stuff on Ludus on Discord.
$50 – a signed physical copy of every new book that comes out while you are at this tier
$100 – chat with BC. This is mostly geared toward future authors
$250- character or item design rights included in a monthly conversation
$500 – Honest critique of one piece of writing up to 30k words per month
$1000 – a dedication of choice in the new book that comes out, made by you
There is more detail for each tier at the right of the screen where they're listed.
I know that this will create some heartburn, but I am betting it will generate more cheers than groans since I'll actually be delivering something other than good vibes. This also prevents me from overpromising and underdelivering like I have in the past. I'm really sorry for everyone I've stiffed on stuff like character creation even if ya'all aren't mad about it.
I don't like to feel like I'm letting anyone down. :/
So I hesitate to ask this, but what do you think? (Please don't eviscerate me if you're mad. I agonized over these changes for a long time.)

Looks great! Just the wording on the final tier is a little confusing

2019-12-03 00:55:20 +0000 UTCSo, if the Christian Grey level shouldn't curse or hex, maybe interesting blessings instead? The King in Yellow comes to mind, perhaps? ;) Might help if you have to write more of the Deepwater Rose, fer instance...

2019-12-02 23:12:16 +0000 UTCI may be in the minority, but I'm not in it for the patreon rewards. I want to help you write more books because I love the ones I've read so far. That being said, I like the changes. Too many artists focus on trying to get people to donate, rather than making promises that they'll actually keep.

2019-12-02 22:27:47 +0000 UTCI love it, it feels much more polished, and though I enjoyed the campy nature, I think you were right to pivot a bit :) the tiers also rock imo,
