Another strange dream - steampunk temple

I had a weird dream last night that could have been a legit book or a movie.  You all seem to like when I tell you about my strange, hallucinated stories, so here goes:

-------------------------------------------

The setting was the Victorian era during the steampunk renaissance that never was. I was a get-it-done sort of investigator, an explorer.

My mission was to discover what had happened to a research team at ruins some distance away, at the base of a mountain, past a remote area.

On the way there, we rode a large bus, high off the ground. The included some dialogue among my team about driving buses and the higher vantage point from the road (I guess it was late in the steampunk era). To one side of the road were several lakes that people seemed to have been fishing at, but nobody was there now. Some of the poles were left out along with tackle boxes, like people had just got up and left.

In fact, we couldn’t see anyone on either side of the road. The entire area looked abandoned.

Once we got to the ruins, we explored for a bit, and our Chief Librarian informed us of some secret information. It was suspected that gold at the site had something to do with the bodies that had been found. Some sort of energy might be reacting with the gold, but our real mission there was to locate some gold artifacts from the ruins and bring it back to HQ. We could basically all head back as soon as we’d found enough, and I wanted to get the fuck out of dodge.

While walking around, I stumbled over something. I turned out to be a large, strangely shaped object of solid gold. After my small team and I dug it out of the ground, it discovered it’d been joined with some odd strands of iron wire, which we cut off. Then we searched around, finding a few more pieces of gold.

Suddenly, the ground began to rumble, and the gold started to glow. Being a sane person, I immediately threw the stuff to the ground and emptied my pockets.

Gold is not supposed to glow.

Some of the other expedition members seemed to have been less intelligent, because I heard screaming in the distance. I caught the Chief Librarian while she was running and she told me that her instruments were going haywire. Something bad was happening. There might be a rift to another world forming.

This was bad, and I knew I needed to escape. I ran a different direction than the way I’d come in, going higher and heading back. This proved to be smart, because creatures were everywhere, orks. Most were down below. They all seemed to be glowing, some were red. A few huge ones below my elevated walkway were two stories tall and had throats full of fire.

About this time, I felt a new sense awakening, and I realized it was magic. I also realized that I had zero chance of escape without doing something intelligent.

What I did was take my upper clothing off, spit a few times into some dirt, and rub it all over my body. As camouflage it kind of sucked, but seemed to be better than nothing because none of the orks stopped me as I walked quickly. I didn’t get close to any of them as I did so.

Near the last bit of the ruins, there were enough orks that I was not going to breeze past like I had before. I started forward, and when they noticed me, I began to run. Then I used my newfound magical power to spawn a large rock above an ork that was about to catch me. The rock fell on its head, but its hand got close enough to burn my back with the tips of its fingers. I used another rock to knock another ork back, then ran out of the temple complex.

During my escape, running on a logging trail, I was almost hit by a strange group of people. They were wearing heavy leather, and driving another gasoline-powered car. They barely spared me a glance, hurrying toward the ruins, and I was glad they had other places to be. I got the feeling I’d just evaded death again, and wondered why the group was heading /toward/ the ruins.

Then I heard another car and feared the worst, but it swerved to a stop ahead of me. Alfonz, the loony scientist of the research party who’d come in on a second bus was urging me to get in the car. He wore a dirty white lab coat and had thick, wire rimmed glasses. I remembered that he had always been a crafty person, very risk averse, and I concluded he hadn’t even gone into the ruins earlier, which was how he’d survived.

Once I got in the car, he looked at a dial, and told me that we only had three minutes left to escape, that the energy readings were rising.  Alfonz tried to gun the car and began to fish tail. I told him to stop, and then instructed him to start slowly, speeding up when he had traction and to not drive too recklessly or we’d crash and end up dying.

He wisely took my advice, and we barely escaped the bizarre intersection of worlds behind us.

--------------------------------------------

Then I woke up.

I need some of whatever you were smoking prior to bed last night... Or the brain trauma from your fall was more severe than we thought. Either way, cool story bro!
