Looking for honest opinions about a wish list
Added 2018-06-15 20:26:09 +0000 UTCHey all! I'm asking for your input today.
I've posted an Amazon wish list in the past, and readers, including some folks in this group, have been amazingly generous. I was a bit moved and felt really embarrassed a few times. Perhaps this is my form of impostor syndrome. I'm usually pretty self confident, even as an artist, but when people start trying to tip me or give me compliments, I get all flustered.
I've been told recently that I need to update my Amazon wish list and post it more often. Okay. But I have also been told that I should stop my policy of only including stuff in the wish list that will directly effect my writing.
The input that I got is readers will donate what they want to donate (if anything) and won't think less of me if I put stuff like knives on the wish list. I flat out refused for a long time, but recently someone told me that downtime and things I do to get inspiration help my writing too.
I couldn't argue with that.
However, I'm really not a fan of like...streamer chicks who make woe-is-me videos right before posting a huge Amazon wish list and basically get a house full of stuff bought for them. Granted, I'm a guy and not drop dead gorgeous, playing League of Legends in skimpy clothing, so this wouldn't be an option for me anyway. My bad outlook on that stuff weighs heavily on me, though.
I don't feel it's my place to tell other entertainers what to do, but I don't want to engage in that sort of behavior, sort of thing. It's important to me that my readers know I value them, that they, you, are incredibly important to me.
(Sorry for how long winded this is. I need to get it out there)
Anyway, what do you guys think?
When I update my Amazon wish list, should I include other stuff? To what degree should I include stuff if it's not entirely writing-related?
Should I even have a wish list?
I'm only asking this question on Patreon, nowhere else. You all are the most invested in my work, and I also trust your opinions more.
...so please tell me what you think. :)

COMPLETELY SELFISH, YOUR OUT OF YOUR MIND, WHAT THE HELLS WRONG WTH YOU.... those are the types of things id like too see on your wish list... for shits and giggles, troll us a little with something absolutely ludicrous. in all seriousness though its a wish list, its not like your begging for stuff its just stuff that would be nice, if anything id be happier if you had more things unrelated to writing and social media.. you need a break once in a while man

2018-06-16 05:17:45 +0000 UTCI'd suggest adding things for others you know as small charities. Write an open patreon post describing who and where the items will go. If you are against asking for things for yourself (i understand that well) asking for others will be more palatable

2018-06-16 03:48:58 +0000 UTCI'd put both up. I'm not sure if you'll get the things on your wish list, but you definitely won't if your readers don't know what you want. I can understand why you don't want to be like the people in the example you gave, but I think this is a different situation and I won't think any less of you for adding non writing related stuff to your wishlist. Also I'd appreciate if someone could post a link for this wish list because I was not aware Blaise Corvin had a wishlist.

2018-06-16 01:44:52 +0000 UTCPut both up. Sanderson said that he’ll accept foil magic cards if people want to give him things, and buckled and posted a list of cards he wanted for his cube. Put up whatever you want and people will decide if they want to do that or not.

2018-06-15 22:34:43 +0000 UTCWish lists should be more than just work related, especially if you ever wish to do something other than work. Or write about something other than work. Maybe make a video using whatever you've gotten from your wish list to thank peeps who get you stuff. Mmmmmm streaming content.

2018-06-15 22:08:13 +0000 UTCAlso, I would spend a few extra dollars if you played a game in a skimpy outfit just to see one of my favorite authors let down his guard like that... Lol. Maybe Diablo 3 or Barbie Horse Racing...

2018-06-15 20:51:07 +0000 UTCI’m pretty sure you can post what you want on your wishlist. It’s pretty obvious what is related to writing, what isn’t, and let your supporters choose. If you have a box of pens on the list, then I’m sure everyone here will likely buy you a box. If you have a Monet, Tesla, or Ducati on the list- you probably won’t get it, but you are welcome to put what you want on it 😂. Personally, I wouldnt mind if you wanted knives, keyboard, or even an espresso machine.
