Announcement: Patreon Tiers and Rates

Hey everyone!

After today, everyone who is not already a Patron will have their basic tier rates raised.

I will be updating the tiers and making a new video to reflect this soon, but the change will go into effect later today.

Basically, if you already pay $2 or $4, nothing will change.  However, after today, new patrons will need to pay $3 to be at the reading tier, and $5 to be at the art tier.

So all of you fine folks who have been with me all this time will be rewarded for your radical-ness. :)

Thank you for coming with me on this journey, and thank you for being so supportive.

Thank you! I really appreciate the positivity!

First, Congratulations on the next step - I see in another comment you're looking and going full time. I know a lot of artists who move forward to that point, so wish you the best with that. Second, thanks for letting us know what is coming, and being so communicative with the process. It makes things easier as a Patron to know what to expect. Third, hoping these changes will give you the freedom / flexibility you need to move forward with your writing. Wishing you the best.

Yeah after I go full time, the releases and consistency will increase a lot. I've been wrestling with the day job a lot and dealing with how to gracefully exit. I actually told my boss yesterday that I would be okay with getting laid off (which I think is coming anyway), so the dice have been cast now.

Oops, my thing got too long, anyway that's some context. I think your price increases are fair and reasonable and I think it was a really cool move to keep the current donors at the same price from before. You can even easily consider raising the prices depending on your rate of chapter release. I think the key though to making people happy with paying more is to be clear with your chapter release schedule and then meet it consistently (also letting people know in advance if dates will be missed and by how much). Obviously that can be tough as a writer, but as a patron I think that is what people value most.

I don't know where your poll went that you posted but I wanted to comment on that. Don't compare your Patreon to Aleron Kong, his is not a normal Patreon and even though I'm a fan of his books I don't agree with how he does his Patreon. For comparison to the others I support that are similar to you, pirateaba who writes The Wandering Inn charges $5 a month for access to one chapter ahead of her blog and she writes at least 2 chapters a week. PuDDleS4263 who writes the Legend of Randidly Ghosthound charges $1 for one chapter ahead, $5 for 3 chapters ahead, and $10 a month for access to his latest chapters (the end of his buffer). He usually writes multiple chapters per week as well. Domagoj Kurmaic with Mother of Learning doesn't charge anything but has his money go per chapter instead of per month (although he writes about one chapter per month). Michael Chatfield (Emerilia series) also has a $3 and $5 option (and his is the closest analogue to the way you post chapters and then publish although I don't Patreon him because he releases a book a month anyway with like no editing).
