A REMASTER OF MY OWN 🔮

Hey! 😄 Recently I have received a private message from one of you simply asking - "what are you working on next?" An eye-opening question revealing that many of you might be feeling unsure about what's going on with the development of WickedWhims. Thank you for that message! I replied sharing some of my progress privately, but I want to make sure everyone else can be clear about what's going on too.
I work on WickedWhims and modding-related projects every single day, despite some significant strain that I unknowingly put on myself. A few months ago I moved across the world, with very few belongings, timezone disconnected from my family and friends, new laws and culture to get used to, and a secondary language to operate with daily. All this to say, I didn't realize the mental fatigue I would have to handle. After living in the same city all my life, it's a fresh start, but I'm happy with my decision, once again working towards organizing a life that I feel comfortable living 🏡
tl;dr Full fundamental rewrite is done and reintegrated into the mod. Currently going through systematic testing and regression fixes. Most common and recent issues/annoyances will be addressed in the next update. Shared behind the scenes look at the Runtime Animations Processor and development of the Live Camming feature.
The Big Picture
Did you know that WickedWhims is going to be 10 years old next year? I've been working on this project for a long time, and it grew so big and complex, that on top of adding more, I need to maintain everything that already exists too. Please don't think I'm complaining, I'm proud of how far we have come, and I actually enjoy the maintaining process, but it's extremely time-consuming which is what I'm trying to get to...
The Sims 4 will continue to be developed as the leading main entry in The Sims series for the unforeseeable future, with promises of foundational improvements to an already (although contrary to some beliefs) decently structured custom engine the game runs on.
Newcomers to the genre are still far from becoming viable replacements to the needs of The Sims players.
Rumors about a The Sims 4 "Remaster" could introduce a few missing core features that could allow the game to establish itself as the strongest entry in the series. If this is to become a reality, then mods would have to be ported to this re-release of the game.
The number of WickedWhims players has been growing every year, which in some part has to be due to the increasing number of The Sims 4 players, except for this year, where the number of players remained roughly the same. Next year is a good time for something major to happen.
Regardless of what Maxis does next, my focus is on enjoying modding WickedWhims, and that requires doing the responsible thing - keeping things organized 🏡
Backstage Tour
I rarely have a reason to talk about the fundamental code responsible for the functionality of WickedWhims, but that is what I have been focusing on for the past few months. A substantial portion of the mod depends on a custom layer of code that handles interactivity between the mod and the game, allowing me to keep things compatible more easily and develop mod features faster, which I call the TurboLibrary.
You might think that year after year of working on the TurboLibrary only makes it better, but the reality is that each newly added piece of code is stacked on top of old code, becoming an inconsistent mixture that's unnecessarily complicated to work with. What was meant to make modding easier for me became a burden, so I decided to fix it. And observing what's going on with The Sims 4 development, I think a very similar thing is happening to the game too.
At this point I have finished rewriting the TurboLibrary, making the already mentioned things better, which included fixing a bunch of bugs and improving stability and performance for both the game and the mod. WickedWhims already runs on the refreshed foundation and I'm very happy with the results, but the mission is only half complete.
A Lot of Moving Parts
Completing the mission of improving my work environment and the mod quality requires testing every smallest part of WickedWhims to make sure everything is functioning as intended. But simply verifying what works would be a waste, as it's a great opportunity to fix any lingering bugs and finish features that were left for who knows when... right now sounds good.
I started reworking some of the oldest elements of the mod that help in building the base WickedWhims experience, as simple as how Sims react to what's going on around them. Brainstorming better integration with the game and individual mod gameplay features, finally covering something as basic as wants and fears. And wherever possible, giving seemingly insignificant things more thought and introducing more variety to the most commonly encountered stuff.
Shooting for the Stars
Graphic artists, writers, and 3D animators and modelers are involved in creating new assets as we speak, with some of it ready to be implemented into the mod right now. Most of my time is spent coding and inventing new ways to enhance WickedWhims. Let me share with you two promising projects that are in development.
Live Camming
I've started working on a live camming feature in early 2023, struggling to make it something fun to play with, but I always wanted it to exist as a step Sims can take on their journey to adult-stardom. It took some time but I finally gave it another attempt, scrapping everything I had and starting from building a solid foundation of good visuals and multiple levels of interactivity.
I'm pretty satisfied with the progress and quality me and involved artists made so far, but a crucial element that makes live camming work might need your help. If you're interested to find out what that means, click the button below to see a preview of one of the elements and how you could contribute to the development.
Runtime Animations Processor
All of the sex animations in WickedWhims depend on how the creator of the animation manually configured it, which on top of being limited is often insufficient or sometimes simply incorrect. I'm sure you've encountered things looking wrong with sex animations before.
The role of the currently in development Animations Processor is to check animations frame-by-frame and detect what's going on in detail. This not only allows to correct configuration mistakes, but adds new types of interactivity between Sims having sex that's synchronized with what you're seeing on screen. And most importantly all of that occurs at runtime, meaning it happens as you're playing the game which is not as simple to achieve as it might seem.
There's still a lot to do with this project, and it will most likely expand and improve with each update, but it's already the beginning of something amazing. Things I thought weren't doable in the past are now becoming a reality.
And if you're thinking - so why wasn't this done earlier? It comes to investing time into hopeful experimenting to find and invent new functionalities that aren't normally allowed without disrupting the game and other mods. Some things feel impossible to do until you spend enough time researching and experimenting to find a way.
