Common Issues [September 2024]

Hey! Although the recent game patch hasn't caused that many issues to most mods, it brought a lot of issues to users with mods. I want to list some of the most common ones I've seen and provide potential solutions.

Infinite Loading / Stuck Loading (DirectX 11)

There are multiple causes of infinite loadings, but the game now uses DirectX 11 by default which may cause some saves to not load with mods. Ideally mods should be fixed, either by the authors or by you using simple repair tools, or you can temporarily revert back to using DirectX 9.

• Reverting back to DirectX 9 is a temporary solution to see if this is the reason for infinite loadings. Open Game Options and enable DirectX 9. You may not have this option available in which case you shouldn't worry about it. If you really want to try it though, add -dx9 in the EA App The Sims 4 properties advance launch options.

• Repairing mods to work with DirectX 11 requires downloading Sims4Studio, at least version 3.2.2.2 for Windows and at least version 1.4.1.9 for Mac. In Sims4Studio, at the top press Content Management ➜ Batch Fixes ➜ Misc ➜ Updates Images for DX11 and Run it.
  ❗Caution! Any Batch Fixes ran on WickedWhims will cause issues so re-install WickedWhims after running any Batch Fixes on your Mods folder.

Errors / Last Exceptions

There are a lot of different errors you might encounter, but here are the commonly reported ones that are easy to solve.

• Almost all reported error files I receive are because you didn't update WickedWhims. Just update the mods you use, that's required after almost every game patch.

• The "should_refresh_thumbnail" last exception error will appear if you didn't update WickedWhims, Nisa's Wicked Perversions, or Occult Hybrid Stabilizer/Unlocker.

The Game Failed to Load

You may see a popup with an Error Code when trying to load your game save.

• If it's an error code with a number higher than zero then you most likely have broken or outdated mods. You need to find them and delete/update them. Broken mods can cause issues to WickedWhims which then can cause the game to not load so I recommend first testing the game with just WickedWhims installed and no other mods.

• If it's an error code zero then you most likely can't load that save anymore and you have to go into Load Game and click the Recover Save button. It's still worth trying to load it without any mods first to see if that helps.
