I think kids who were born in the late 2000’s may be the only ones who might not know him. And older folk who don’t follow K-pop. Most other people who know Korean entertainment would definitely know him. BigBang was huge. And TOP was in acting projects too when BigBang was rising and at their peak.

2025-02-15 13:45:21 +0000 UTCI heard that the reason they created the character to be not liked was because of the hate TOP got from South Korea when it was announced he would be in squid games. TOP has admitted and faced the consequences for doing drugs which was now years ago. He left BigBang and then was cancelled in South Korea receiving so much backlash and hate. TV shows would even cover his face when they had to show an image of BigBang. They isolated him and are still bullying him. Squid Games gave him an opportunity but then they got hate from South Koreans who said they would boycott the show and cancel the actors. It’s really uncalled for as yes he committed a crime in South Korea but he has paid for it and he only hurt himself. Even in recent interview he said that he didn’t want to go back to BigBang because he didn’t want to affect the group or the members so he hasn’t even contacted them. I’m grateful he is getting so much love globally, because he really deserves it. He went through depression that affected his health and even now he is still careful and didn’t do any promo for squid games until the overwhelming love he started to do interviews.
