If you say there is no difference you are simply ignorant. And I sincerely hope that Koreans protect their traditional values, and avoid this woke nonsense. In real life, the actors pronouns are still he/him and that’s who they know. I get it though and they have been trying throughout the whole season, a lot of the time they do use she/her and if they muck up they correct themselves. Comparing it to a real life situation is weird as well because it’s literally acting. Also for the nicknames, that’s just their thing, they’ve been doing it since day 1. They do sometimes learn the names but struggle to remember which is fair enough. In real life if you met a lot of “foreign” people or whatever you would put in the effort to learn their names but these are literally tv shows. When it comes to K-pop groups they know all the names. If it bothers you that much, go watch your reel rejects then, I like them but bringing them into this and comparing is just rude. Let’s just not spread negativity because I know you’re trying to express your opinion and I do understand where you’re coming from but you’re bringing the mood down. 😢

2025-01-07 23:59:34 +0000 UTCi don’t think that’s an excuse to not learn a name because it’s foreign? especially if your channel is based on reacting to content from korean culture. especially for a show that may be 16 episodes for ex. i’m not saying to know every single character but at least the main leads. i don’t think they even know the name for the main character of squid game (gi hun)… if u check out reel-time, they always put an effort to learn the names (even if wrong which is okay)

That's why Sang Woo killed the other player; he said she and Gi Hun would've voted/chosen to leave and he was outvoted. Also the guy who lost his wife after one of the games also wanted to leave or die (I don't remember) and people in the group were like it's pointless to leave at that point since she's already gone. I guess the difference here is the vote is shown after each game. Almost like a reminder that they *can* leave (if the majority agrees)

Even when watching shows that are not Korean, people find it hard to remember names, even more so when you're not binging it. I genuinely do not think it's right to claim that they are doing so because their names are "too difficult". If you've been watching them for a while you'll know that they pronounce characters' names properly and actually remember some of the names much later in other dramas. Some of us are watching the shows for the first time with them so we understand forgetting names sometimes. If you've watched it before now, obviously you would have gotten the names by now.

2025-01-07 18:50:19 +0000 UTCi get what you’re saying and i understand. but i think one of the main reasons the director even included her character is because of the negative connotations it would have, especially in korean culture (such as referring to her as a man). her storyline is a huge part of squid game now, and it’s important to learn it. imagine if someone close to you who was originally male came out as a woman, would you not try to learn her new identity and pronouns (she/her) just because you’re “used” to her as a man? put at least a bit of effort? i know this is just a show but it happens so much irl. it may also help to at least learn the names of the characters in the dramas you watch, because since the beginning yall have been coming up with nicknames and at a point it just becomes a bit strange because are their names too difficult? you may get “used” to their characters in the current show if you learn their names.

2025-01-06 22:11:36 +0000 UTCAt the time 28:59 when y’all were talking about the voting process in season 1, the reason why u couldn’t remember it clearly was because they only voted once which was after the game “Red light Green light” and it was in majority of those who wanted to go home so everyone went home and they gave another chance for people to come back after that which most people did. So the slight difference is that in season 1 they voted once while this season they continuously voted after every game.
