He must have been blaming himself and to see her again and have her not seem to remember him, may have played into his decision to end it all later after that. Remember the friend called her and said Sun Jae felt sorry towards her, so he must have been really blaming himself all those years and carrying that weight around with him.

That's why it all ties in with him calling her and telling her to carry on living and makes it all the more special ✨️ 💕

Her being in the water and seeing his figure swimming towards her made her remember who saved her back then (sun jae). Past sol never paid attention to him while on the other hand sun jae had a one sided crush on her ever since she gave him the yellow umbrella (which y'all seen). Which is why he purposefully chose to call sol in the booth, hoping she would remember him. And that makes the moment of him telling her over the phone "thank you for being alive" even more meaningful cause when he saved her, she was screaming and saying " you should have left me to die" "why did you save me and let me be like this". So this whole time since episode 1 when we all thought he just said those words to a random stranger and unknowingly saved her from killing herself, it was actually on purpose

Also why inhyuk said sunjae felt sorry towards her because he felt guilty for not saving her earlier. So at the end when she was crying she finally realised he saved her and she had forgot him all those years
