2023-09-07 02:32:23 +0000 UTCI would say Eren hasn't given up so much because of the bad things that have happened to him. At the start of the season, he's going on with trying to save humanity. Even in this episode, he's still fighting and struggling against the chains when Rod Reiss says Historia should eat him (and he looks mad). The moment you see him change is when Rod says that if Eren's father hadn't eaten Frieda, she could have eliminated the titans and saved the world, which is exactly what Eren wants the most. So it's not so much giving up, but guilt from what his father did, and resignation from the fact that he believes Historia *should* eat him and that that is the right thing to do to save humanity.

I think he feels guilty more than anything - he kinda believes what Historia’s dad said so he feels like his dad committed a horrible sin and condemned humanity for a reason he doesn’t understand. I saw Eren as feeling so terribly guilty and sorry about his dads actions that he was okk with being eaten (for what he believes will be in the better interest of humanity anyway). Also, love the reaction :)
