Ep5 Move To Heaven

This episode had me in tears 😭

Hyunjinshairband

His reaction to the rings kills me every damn time

Kara

Cries right along with Tobi 😭😭

ARC98

Bro I legit teared up when they showed the rings and how he was wearing both of them as he played. 😭😭😭 But I love this for the LGBTQIA+ representation.

Karla24.wintaebear

There isn't a lot of representation for LGBTQs in mainstream Korea but in the past few years I've been seeing a lot more characters in mainstream kdramas that shed light on their stories and show their hardships they face. I recommend y'all check out this awesome Korean grandmother meeting a gay couple https://youtu.be/t2D9sWDXk8A?si=u4DWM0H0hDAa8re9

Anah!

When Geu-ru recited the letter to Ian that Soo-Hyun wrote to him, and they showed a different past of him grabbing Ian’s hand while they were walking & at the movies 😫😫😫😫😭😭😭. Showing what kind of man he wanted to be for Ian. Laaaawwwwwddd!!!! Feels were HIT HIT!! Killed me

One of the best episodes in the show, always so heartbreaking & moving to watch. I'm glad they include more lgbtq+ characters and storylines in kdramas lately, slowly including stories like this one I believe will help Korea becoming more accepting and less conservative overtime. It's so sad what some people over there will do to lgbtq+ people just for loving somebody. Holland, an openly gay kpop idol, was attacked there by some people for just walking by them a few months ago. :(

Gosh this one my fave/saddest episodes. They give a cute/happy flashback and tugged on your heart strings. The fact that Soohyun made the decision to go to him, wrote a love letter and the rings, THE RINGS and Ian wearing both....broke me. Holding back the thug tears for the re-watch like Tobi lol

Sal

lol its hard to see in these episodes because you don't see his full face. i didnt recognise him when I watched AoS

Sal

Man I cried with you 🤧

I don't need someone to tell me about the homophobia in my home country, as someone in the community myself. You both have used idols as your primary example of people hiding their sexuality. That is such a small fraction of people who are or may be hiding. And they aren't just doing that because of homophobic Koreans. They promote and make money from countries all over the world, a majority of them being close minded. If they come out they aren't just losing the small portion of their possible homophobic Korean fanbase, but those from other homophobic nations as well (more prominently china and the philipines, with china being a large portion of most idol groups income). With that being said, it may not even be their choice to come out when they want. Companies know the monetary loss they may face from the large kpop fanbases in such countries, china especially, that they may not allow their idols to come out. Even western artists are just more recently feeling comfortable coming out. I never said Korea was perfect and homophobia isn't still a problem. But if you think that it hasn't made progress and taking a few instances of bullying as proof that homophobia is as rampant as you think, you're sorely mistaken. Bullying is a whole other topic on its own, so I won't even touch on that. Also to think that Bl's becoming more popular is a laughable comparison is actually really insulting. Maybe western women have an unhealthy obsession with gay men, yikes, but many of my gay and lesbian friends in korea and japan and taiwan are loving the representation we are finally getting out of all three countries. Even with most stories recently being adaptations from manhwa, it's nice to see. You don't get to belittle how we feel about our representation when you have no idea what it's like. It's funny when people try to fight against homophobia for others while still insulting them for appreciating the progress their country is making against it. And if you felt insulted by my use of 'small minded', I'm sorry. But what else do you call someone when they are viewing a your world from the outside and thinking that because their oppars may be gay but can't say anything is a representation of your entire country? Using semantics like 'I didn't say everyone' when in fact you said the country in general, is absurd. In general implies most. And that's just incorrect. Also don't you dare gaslight me and claim I called you small minded for calling out homophobia. I did no such thing. I also won't continue to talk to someone who uses such techniques to make it seem like you're being attacked. Fin

here we go with the episode that made me watch Move To Heaven in the first place! It was a freaking TikTok edith with these 2, a freaking HAPPY edit with all the cute moments and dates they had and then I start watching the actual show and ended up crying my soul out....TikTok edits did me dirty af!!! NO. REGRETS. THO. still my fave episode....

Andreea

@snax there are literal reasons why we don’t have idols coming out in the industry. You think they will have Korean fans support? 😂😭 Not to be that person, but literally an idol who came out as asexual had to leave the group. Granted that was around 2014ish, but have u seen many come out since? Besides holland, who was already out before he entered it. And I bet a decent portion of idols are homosexual, but legit have to hide it along with all their other “imperfections”. BL literally just started getting produced these last couple years. And while that’s amazing, saying they are making BL because Korea is less homophobic now is ignorant. BL also has hella issues when it comes to actual queer representation than u may thing. AND it’s not aimed towards gay Korean men, but straight females. And a huge portion of the fan bases for BLs are international. Yeah the younger generation may be trying, but if u watch interviews where actual gay people talk about it, students are still getting bullied. Still getting abandoned by families. Getting harassed online and on the streets. It’s kind of wild to me how u would call someone small minded for saying their take on something. It’s fine to express ur opinion, but u literally were rude and honestly ESPECIALLY what u said about the BL is almost laughable.

The guy in the hospital that the uncle beat up is Winter from Alchemy of Souls if you didn’t notice 😂

i'm sorry if it seems like i'm generalizing, but it doesn't change the fact that it is still so taboo to be part of the lgbt, and more often than not it does lose them fans when they show support and/or act in BLs. they get criticized. BLs are mostly popular internationally, and they bring in money from international fans. i said the country, as a whole is still conservative. i did not say every single korean person is homophobic. and the Boys Planet incident was just an example?? why would you think i'm saying all that just because of boys planet lol let's not pretend there aren't tons of other examples to give. i live in a country just as conservative, and religious on top of that. as much as it's made progress, it's still a pretty touchy subject. just to clarify, i did not say every single korean citizen is homophobic lol it's just, overall, not known to be a very supportive country. my comment was in relation to the guys being quite surprised that the characters in the show were hesitant to hold hands in public. i'm sorry if it seems like i'm hating or something, it's just what i've noticed and gathered as an LGBT person myself. please don't call me small minded for calling out homophobia lmao

katsu ne

I think you're generalizing quite a large portion of Koreans. While Korea is still quite conservative, it is mostly the older generation who hold on to a lot of these prejudice's. The younger generations are mostly accepting, which can be seen in the uptick of young idol BL dramas. If most of the country were homophobic, as you claim, then they wouldn't be producing BL dramas since they wouldn't be making them any money or bringing in much of a fanbase. And if it was so taboo for homosexuality and supporting such, then so many idols would keep their support for such things on the down low instead of openly supporting it, since it would lose them fans. Especially idols from smaller groups taking part in BL dramas. I think it's important to not generalize 'most' of a population because of the loud minority. That's akin to saying all of one fandom is toxic just because you've seen some loud and terrible comments from a few. Unless you've spent years in Korea and have seen how it's grown from 20 years ago to today, please don't lump us all together and think because a small group of people in a competition show didn't support one person, then 'most' of the population of an entire country must feel the same. It's quite small minded of you as well.

Snax

I think you will be very surprised when you notice who is the actor playing the guy in the hospital 👀😂 This drama is soooo good!!!!

Sonia

you're halfway to the finale boys prepare for the uncle and geuro's backstory lmao

korea is a very homophobic country. it's really shamed upon to be gay, that's why they were afraid of holding hands in public. that's also why no idols or actors have ever come out publicly or anything, it would literally destroy their career. which is quite ironic considering how much fans love to fetishize the relationship between certain idols. there's a new rookie idol called Kim Jiwoong in the group Zerobaseone. the group was formed through a survival show program called Boys Planet where the people at home voted who they wanted in the group. Kim Jiwoong used to be a BL (boys love) actor and he was open about that in the show. the difference in votes from international fans and korean fans was astonishing, the international fans quite literally carried him through the show. even now that he has debuted, he sometimes faces backlash from korean fans for having acted in gay shows. at one of their music shows, the public there went silent every time he showed on screen and never cheered for him. that's how serious it is. of course he still has love and support from a lot of people, but it's sad that he has to experience such things. even so, he has never been ashamed of his past and he's very open about it. people, for the most part, are very closed minded about lgbt in korea. things are slowly changing, but it's going to be a really long process. i also come from a very conservative, homophobic country. it would literally be unheard of and very dangerous for two guys to hold hands in public. sadly, i don't see things changing any time soon. my parents watched this show and i really do think this episode might have helped change their view towards lgbt people a bit. it made me cry so much lol

When I first watched this episode, It had me wiping my eyes a lot. You felt Ian’s pain. I wished they would’ve gone to San Francisco together and been happy. This is a great series.
