Ep3 Alchemy Of Souls

I know I’m late. She’s the annoying cousin on Business proposal and now on here right….plus was the girl on Woo with the finger heart.?.?.

Diane Nancy Theodore

50:00 I think the puppet movie you were talking about was Labyrinth with David Bowie

Alexis Thompson

Omg RJ made me laugh, giving 8.3 points, I really liked how you guys danced to ost, you are the best reactors, it was so fun watching this episode with you guys, I am so grateful

Kermen

please, next erisode!! I AM WAITING~

Go-eun

This show is certainly not perfect (my favorite, but would not give it 10/10 ), I didn’t like some of the cinematography choices and misplaced comedy. Still would give it a generous 8.5-9/10 though, its good fantasy romance and there are many scenes that are written and acted so well that I can forgive a lot. The actress playing the main girl is a good example, It’s not very obvious in the subs but the way she talks as the assassin Naksu and the way she speak as a maid are totally different, when she’s the maid she speaks in honorifics and a countryside dialect (in ep01 we were told that the blind girl was sold from the countryside- shows how preceptive and calculating she is) but whenever she and Uk are alone she drops both pretenses, if she’s angry her voice would even become hard as steel. You might not notice the changes in language but if you pay attention to her tone and the way she talks and how quickly she switches between the two, its fascinating every time.

Pinkfoot

Yeah, and that's why Part 1 is better on a second watch because you can skip to the good stuff. Also, Part 1 has insane foreshadowing that you would miss on the first watch AND the second watch if you skip some comedic/witty parts because this show is sly enough to forshadow some dark stuff with comedy.

Pinkfoot

also go for mr queen for the comedy. hahahaha

Alexander Gotamco

watch the king's affection!!! actress is park eun bin a.k.a. woo young woo

Alexander Gotamco

I think they would prefer shows like ANNA, REBORN RICH, BEYOND EVIL, MOUSE, VAGABOND, SNOWDROP, THE RED SLEEVE, BIG MOUTH etc and I even recommend a movie : A night in paradise they would definitely love. This is more their style !

Sarah Morgane

Personally I understand they don’t like this show compared to the other they watched and loved, it’s completely understandable but mind you this is a "real kdrama" like the basic kdrama has this tone and it’s not a bad thing, it’s just not for them

Sarah Morgane

Itaewon class might be an old drama but it’s very good and intense. Flower of evil is another good suspenseful drama.

Jessica Adjei

I think so too!! they should start that (It's okay not to be okay)

Angecarlie Laura

Maybe they would enjoy more of a series like "it's okay not to be okay " that many also recommend

Lili

I loved the comedy I think it really made the show. Without the comedy I don’t think I would’ve loved the show as much as I love it. It’s literally in my top 3 kdramas

therealdydyy

yall arent enjoying the hong sister's sassy humor?! the audacity! well, there is more to come hehehehehe

onew's falsetto

if it's all serious tbh i wouldn't wanna watch it lol. it's too intense and the storyline's deep and all so i think it gives it a perfect balance, i found the jokes funny. but then again, humor is subjective. it gets better fr tho.

mrtz c

Signal is soooo underrated!

Nikitha Decostere

Haha I don't see them quitting the series...that's not who they are...especially one that was as highly requested as this one...there'd be riots 😂😂 I do see it taking the back burner a lot though...there's so many good shows (Korean & English) coming out this year...so it could slow down to one a week again or perhaps a week without an episode...but I think they'll definitely push through. I just hope it's enjoyable for them...they do so much as it is...💜

mscurlsncurves

Now that I'm rewatching this series with you, I've been reading the subtitles, and I'm finding that there's quite a lot that got lost in translation. I think it may be helpful to remember that the power trained mages wield, the "spells" they learn, etc. are all based on water (in Korean, they call it "energy of water" throughout, not just "energy" as in the subtitles). They learn how to use and control water that exists everywhere - in their bodies, in bodies of water, the atmosphere, etc. (like how in the battle in Ep. 1, they create arrows and blades with water). That's why it makes sense that Mu-deok got her powers back for a bit when she jumped in that great lake. Soul shifters are unable to replenish the water energy they have within very well, so they dry up and turn into rocks if they use up the water energy they hold too quickly. One way to replenish this energy quick is to suck it out from other people as shown in this episode. I think this is one of the top 5 or even top 3 K-dramas I've watched in 2022, and I really really enjoyed watching it, but I wouldn't say it is the GOAT - Signal, Stranger (Secret Forest), Mr. Sunshine... these would be some I would list as deserving the title. And although I know you don't hate AOS, I also agree with another comment above that there's no rule for you to finish every series you start if you don't like it. It's gotta be fun for all of us, including you! That being said, this series does a really good job at being unpredictable (the overarching plot may be, but when you go to more specific plots, like what's gonna happen next episode... I stopped trying to guess where the story was taking me after a while) and keeping the story cohesive and interesting throughout (many K-dramas with 16-20 episodes tend to drop the ball around ep. 10ish or wrap up the story with a very weak ending), and also at developing the characters and their relationships. Hope this journey turns out to be worth it for you!

Yuba

You know, ms c&c! Life is short. Time is precious. Attention is a fleeting. 30 hours is madness. ✌🏽

Anthony 임종철

I'm watching it again and I really feel like the guys would love it. Dong-sik gives hella Woo vibes and there's so many familiar faces! Now that they're watching AOS hopefully these types of recommendations can get seen. 🙌🏾

mscurlsncurves

Beyond Evil is amazing omg

Ayesha S

The guys are gonna work their magic and save it every time lol I felt similarly about Extracurricular and Sweet Home, but I enjoyed it when I watched their reactions

mscurlsncurves

The one I'm referring to here is "Beyond Evil"

mscurlsncurves

What is your fave series?

ꪗꪖsꪑiꪀꫀ

"Why would you say something so controversial, yet so brave?" 😂😂😂 They're gonna want to fight you in the comments lol I get it though...I want them to watch one of my fave series that is also a slow burn (but way better than this one)...hopefully it picks up like they say it will...

mscurlsncurves

There's nothing in the rules that says you have to stick with a reaction series. We're not watching the show, we're watching you guys so if it ain't hitting for you, it's not for us as well.

Anthony 임종철

Signal would also be good

St Ephrem

Ms. curls and curves, it’s such a struggle getting through this show.

Podcast Fandom Premium

I recommend you watch Arthdal Chronicles. It's a really good show and I think you will like it as you prefer serious series. Just consider watching it.

Dian

I was feeling the exact same way as you guys did when I started this drama. I preferred it to be more serious than comedic, which is why I enjoyed part 2 way more because it got darker and the characters became more serious. Part 1 is much more light-hearted with the jokes and definitely a slow-burn but eventually leads to more suspense and excitement later on.

Ryuuji

This show has me rollin’😂😂😂!!!!

MinWii

😂😂😂

mscurlsncurves

I thought the ending was bittersweet but not bad

ParkMinJeon

vincenzo ending was so bad bruh

Mikele.

whatttt???? this show actually had me busting out laughing

Mikele.

WOAH woah woah. Hold up now ✋🏼😂 I agreed with everything you said up until you mentioned Vincenzo. 😳 Vincenzo is in my top 3 of best kdrama’s. The absurdity you speaketh 😆

ParkMinJeon

I agree. "This is the best kdrama ever" mhm...

Esther

I completely agree. I didn't get as far as you, but I feel like the humor is misplaced. Everyone is trying to argue that the show needs the humor. That's honestly okay (the guys are big Marvel fans, so duh they wouldn't mind it.) The problem is the humor is misplaced or not funny at all. Also, the episodes are not only long but they FEEL LONG and that's the worst. I've watched plenty of dramas that are 70-90mins long each and I can watch them with ease and be so wrapped up that I don't remember when one episode ends and when another begins. These feel tiring AF...I'm not surprised they're only doing one a week. (I'll probably get crucified, but this is also why I disliked Vincenzo too 🤷🏾‍♀️)

mscurlsncurves

I’m on ep 9 and I haven’t laughed once. The humor is jus not funny to me and it’s a bit boring in some aspects ngl… Eps. 6 & 7 surprised me tho and are actually entertaining.

ParkMinJeon

How do I turn off the subtitles? I can’t see the drama properly with the sub 😅

Nour Mohammed

I know RJ is having issues with Mu-deok going everywhere with Jang Uk but think of her as his personal assistant, or butler to the public she waits on him hand and foot. I think the higher ups ignore her being there because they just over look her. That's how low status she is considered.

lillie450

This only the beginning more fun to come but also get's darker in the middle.

Banu

I 100% agree with your takes. I didn't dislike this show but I am baffled that its rated as high as it is (9.1 on mydramalist??) I feel like a lot of people are actively ignoring any lowpoints the show has because they like the cast and the romance aspect

Thilde

In my opinion, This show NEEDS comedic relief. The storyline is very intricate, and complex and always comes full circle, BUT will get overwhelming if it's JUST the serious plot + action + scheming etc.. The comedic relief helps build the characters' personas on the one hand (makes you bond and connect with them) and helps you digest all the info you get on the other hand (gives you a breather). Also, I really like the comedy, they make it corny and overreact on purpose, just to really point out the ridiculousness of it all. This being said, humor is always subjective! This is just all build up for the storyline, which is what hooked me! I really hope you guys keep giving it a chance! It's only ep 3, but it's necessary build up (characters introduction, plot info etc) for future episodes. Keep in mind it's 30 eps, so of course not all episodes are full on action. Part 1 is more lighthearted unlike part 2! ☺️

Nikitha Decostere

This is only episode 3. It picks up around episode 4-5. I honestly like a little comedy in there. It’s gets too much when it’s just intense drama without something to bring it back a little bit.

Mikkeai8908

well if you don't like that, you're going to be bothered greatly lmao. it will be like that until the VERY END. for me, I enjoy the jokes, life is not always serious so I do like some comedic relief

koma

Songrim (송림) is pronounced song-neem. When the ㅇ (ng) is followed by ㄹ (r/l), the ㄹ changes to sound like ㄴ (n). And i (이) is always pronounced like a long e. Like seen, keen, sheen.

Podcast Fandom Premium

The scene where the mage is discussing with Park Jin (leader of Songrim) Jang Uk's (winters) sword is good he is a mage of songrim not Cheonbugwan the mages under caesar work for Cheonbugwan (like library think library of alexandria/research stars/advisory place). So each place is quite different makes it confusing cause the mages for Cheonbugwan have similar robes to those of Songrim but they are different. Think of the mages as like security so i think maybe why they are similar the mages located at Cheonbugwan graduated and trained at Songrim originally but work at Cheonbugwan to protect the scholars and stuff there also used as like back up security for the king as its next to it. Thats why the prince gets taught there as the leader (caesar is also the advisor to the king so his building is like adivsors and scholars (read the constellations)). A site i find helpful because it breaks characters down into groups by location is https://asianwiki.com/Alchemy_of_Souls helped me a lot especially early just familiarising names/faces :) Hope this helps

Georgia D

the prince in is the best character love the actor soo good

Georgia D

so at 23:29 the flashback scene you guys were discussing - correct it was back to the start where the king still had winters bio dads body. but as they discussed when a powerful soul goes into a weak body sometimes they cant access their powers as too strong just kill them so he needed the evil guy (caesar) at start who orginally was like his prodigy or assistant wizard to grab soul ejecter to eject his soul and force the king back into his own body with evil guys help to do spell as he didn't have the energy to himself at times. i only watched a little bit of game of thrones at start but think of the evil caesar dude as similar to little finger kinda only ever in it for himself type beat.

Georgia D

I don’t think you guys realize but the old man that open his energy is the same old man in the first episode of Extraordinary Woo Yeon Woo who was hit by the iron! I’m loving that you guys are reacting to all my favorite dramas! 🥰 looking forward to keep watching you guys fall in this k-drama rabbit hole with the rest of us!

nibi Life

don't worry, its still ep 3, you will have that seriousness that u want as u go on

bebe

I personally like some of the comedic moments cause it gives me time to really settle down before there's a build up again. Plus I like that you guys are watching this and The Glory at the same time because idk abt yall but The Glory has me stressed out, I needed the comedic relief. Don't forget to watch the Glory Part 2 that's coming out March 10 :)

kimchii

Jeff saying "chapped on chapped" when they looked they were abiyt to kiss really took me ou. Like that is so funny to me 🤣🤣🤣

Sal

Really feel what you guys are saying with the comedic stuff. Took my by surprise because I didn't know much of it plot wise when I started. The do drag a bit but rhe actual overarching plot makes up for it I think. The story really does get better as we go deeper into it

Sal

I get where you guys are coming from with the whole comedic part of the show cause it does sometimes come at random and unexpected times, but with how intricate the story line is and how deep it gets at points, you have to bring in a comedic relief to break it up a bit so you don’t loose interest. Also, the scene before the uncle kicked winter out (in his office/meeting room) the man with the longish hair that asked the uncle if he was going to let winter in as a mage was not “Caesar”’s second hand man, it was actually the uncle’s second hand man and you get to see him more in later episodes! (He’s a good guy lol) P.s. love how different your reactions are to the series is, cause not everyone will like the show as much as others and you guys bring a little bit of every different opinion into the mix and you make some solid points that makes one think about how to interpret the series if they are watching this with you for the first time or rewatching it with you for your reactions!!💜💜

B0o

This is a villain origin story if I ever saw one.

Snax

there are actually a lot of parallels here in this show so you really have to pay attention and remember the scenes so you'll understand it more

avocadoetarts

there will definitely be some 10/10 episodes in this show! I like the comedic/romantic scenes, because I don't think I'll be able to watch it if it is all serious, so it helps balance out the tone for me. but I do also notice that they are a bit draggy at times. I didn't think much of Yul at first, but as the show went on, he really became my favorite character!!

Priya

The scene in the infirmiry when he brings his face close to hers was him mimicking what she did to him in episode two (he was sitting on the ground being punished for breaking the relic) when she brought her face close to him pretending to give him tea just to whisper to him that he was the first person ever to try to save her. So he said it in the same way - in that she was the first person to realize how depserate he really was for his gate to be opened. So desperate that he didnt mind her poisining him for it.

Pinkfoot

Oop! Okay Jeff with the Towson hoodie! ❤️

mscurlsncurves

Im so glad that y’all are giving AOS a chance. We know that this series isn’t really what y’all look for in a kdrama and it kinda looks like y’all aren’t into it as much as other series but it does it get better! Hope you guys enjoy it as much as we do in the further episodes. ❤️
