Ed Sheeran - The Sum Of It All Documentary

Seriously this docuseries emotionally wrecked me 😭 I just wanna give him a big hug! I’ll never understand all the hate and mean comments he gets 😔 he seems so humble and down to earth. Also, Cherry and Ed are such relationship goals. I hope that you get to see him live 🤞🏻 Saw him last year in August and it was honestly one of the best concerts I've ever been to!

I always like Ed but was never a fan and this doc made me so emotional, I cried on the threadmill. He is such a sweet heart that it makes me pissed people hate on him just because. I loved watching the process of him creating and what happens in behind the scenes. We never know what artists are passing through on their lives and I hope He is now on a better place and happy with his family. Losing someone, as mentioned in this, is really hard and forces you to go and face Life in a different way. Seeing all the impact of Jamal in his Life was so sad but also só heartwarming. I Lost my mom when I was 15 and that changes you, you do grow but things are never going back to how it was. I hope He has time to grief and to process and be happy with the good memories in The future.

I totally know what you mean about getting to know/connecting with an artist..if I can connect with an artist on a human level... I am able to hear their music so much differently.

So glad you watched this! I 100% agree that this docuseries give so much context to his entire discography not just Subtract. I’ve been a fan of his since 2012 and have been lucky enough to see him live for Plus, Divide and then his opening show in Dallas for the Mathematics tour. I always tell people they HAVE to see him live if they ever get the chance because his shows are literally incomparable. He has managed to preserve the loop pedal, build the song piece by piece, format throughout the last decade and he now does this in massive stadiums! It makes for an absolutely incredible show! The stage does look strange in all the far away shots but the concept is actually awesome because no matter where you stand in the pit or are seated you have equal shot to being “front and center” because the stage literally spins around in a circle and has a circular screen above. It’s one of the best stage setups I’ve ever seen. I hope it works out for you to go! And I also hope you listen to Collaborations No 6 (would love that on Patreon!) because it’s one of my favorites from him. Such a wide variety of amazing artists and great songs on that album. Thanks again for watching this with us. It was nice to watch it again and see how much you learned about Ed in the process. He’s an amazing human!

Thank you for this! This documentary was heavy and definitely affected the way that I listened to Subtract, but for the most part it reminds me how much healing I have left to do as someone who went through something very similar with losing my best friend, this whole documentary and most of subtract and the song F64... it's just hard to breathe through it lol The part where he says "I know it's an unavoidable thing everyone goes through" made me want to slap him a little haha like no it's not. Death is an unavoidable thing everyone goes through, but losing your best friend unexpectedly, in such a horrible way, at 30 years old is called traumatic loss, and traumatic grief psychologically speaking is one of the most difficult things any human being will ever deal with, and everything I've read has said you never REALLY recover from it, like you learn to live with it, but it stays with you on a level only other people who have gone through it can possibly understand, and when it's someone you're that close to... Words cannot express and my heart just breaks for him through this whole documentary and if he just dropped off the map for a couple years I'd honestly be so proud of him for giving himself the time and space to deal with everything that 2022 brought into his life. I kinda hope he takes a decent break after Subtract, and I hope performing the songs eventually feels less like taking a cheesegrater to his soul (cause I know that's what it felt like waking up and remembering he's gone) and starts to feel more like honoring his memory and keeping him close (which is what watching the sunset at our favorite beach feels like). The poetry that I wrote in the month after losing James I could never read aloud without a full breakdown, and I have so much respect for Ed singing these songs to oceans worth of people and he should not be embarrassed about Union Chapel but I get it lol. Sorry for the wall of text lol this documentary just hits very close to home for me and I want to give him a hug and tell him we'll survive this lol I just have a lot of thoughts about this doc and I can't get anyone I know to watch it haha again thank you for this reaction <3
