The National / Taylor Swift / Phoebe Bridgers

This video is a little wonky lol

So I decided just to do the features for YouTube but that was only after attempting to listen to the album (First Two Pages of Frankenstein) start to finish... so you guys are getting the first three songs on the album alongside the features. You'll see what I mean when you watch, but hope you enjoy! ♥️

I love The Alcott but I was a little underwhelmed with the other tracks I listened to! However, upon watching this video, I did like Once Upon a Poolside! Side Note: I went to the Nashville show (Night 2) and she did not do “The 1”, it was Invisible String again. Keep manifesting! Maybe she will switch again.

It’s a lovely album but it’s really an a deeply sad exploration of the singer’s depression, writers block and fear the band is over. Every song bar the last song and maybe the Alcott is about the fear of the end of something or the effects of depression. It’s probably lacking the classic National rock anthem like Terrible Love, Slow Show, Don’t Swallow the Cap or Sea of love. The album High Violet remains the most accessible they’ve been, this isn’t really meant to be an accessible album it’s just what the singer was feeling when he wrote it

I'm biased to your biasedness lol so don't need to let it go

I was at her show tonight!!!

Love this reaction! Totally get why you feel this album in full wouldn’t work for a reaction, but definitely encourage you to listen to the rest of it, I’m absolutely loving it! (But the sad girl/sad dad lofi vibes are just my sweet spot right now, especially mixed in with a little essence of New Wave - hence the reference to New Order — and Tropic Morning News sounds like I could have been New Order.) I’m so excited that I’ll be seeing The National in about a month and then Taylor in July! (also manifesting for “the 1”)

I really liked the Alcott though, I just wish Taylor’s voice was bit more prominent in the duet

this is kinda why i voted "just react to the features" on your IG story. i've loved The National for a long time, but the majority of their music takes multiple listens to understand lyrically, and *a lot* of Matt's lyrics and Aaron's instrumentals revolve around being sad, to the point where they've been typecast as a band for "Sad Dads" (and they've literally sold hoodies that said "Sad Dads" on them, so they're embracing it lol.) so yeah, you're correct that this is not an album that's suitable for first-time reactions. that being said, i like the album and i hope you check out more of their stuff (on your own, not for reactions). and i'm excited to see one of their Chicago shows in about 3 weeks from now.

I usually don’t like being negative in the comments, but this album was super underwhelming to me. And this is coming from a pretty big fan of The National. Personally I think Sleep Well Beast was their best album in a while, especially the song “The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness”. I wish they’d go back to that sound.
