【Silver】No more worrying about frills.

In this post, I've put together a rundown on how to draw ruffles and how they work!

↑This ruffle is called a gathered ruffle, which is made by gathering the part to be ruffled with elastic or thread and sewing it to the fabric.

↑The ruffle is called a circle ruffle, and is made by using the difference in length between the inner and outer arcs of the fabric cut in a circle shape. The greater the difference, the more the outer arc undulates.

Both of these ruffles are made of the same thickness of fabric and are tailored into different shapes just by the difference in the way they are sewn.

Knowing the types of ruffles and how they work to some extent will make your drawings more convincing, and increasing the repertoire of ruffles you can draw will increase the range of your expression, so I highly recommend it.

I could write several articles on the different types of ruffles, so I will publish them in a separate article in the near future!

Also, the edges of both ruffles are curved. This is the key to expressing the softness of the fabric.

・Common mistakes

One of the most common mistakes is shown above.

I really see it often. However, if you think about it calmly, cloth never curves at such a right angle.

Be aware of the fact that the cloth is bending, and always keep curves in mind when drawing ruffles!

Drape: The natural sagging, flowing folds that appear when the cloth is shaken. In this case, circular ruffles fall into this category.

Use ruffles together for even more glamour!

Many drapes are sewn with gather ruffles or other ruffles with many folds!

By combining different types of ruffles, an infinite number of patterns exist, so try creating your own original ruffles!

If you want to create a modest effect, lace is a good choice!

If you want a larger image, you may want to draw a lace pattern as well to increase the amount of information!

In the case of this ruffle shape, it is natural that the lining is not visible depending on the angle of view, isn't it?

This is an obvious point, but I often see people who do this too.

For example...

↑left side....

When viewed from an angle like this, if the lining is visible on both the left and right sides, the ruffle on the left shoulder looks like a loudly spread ruffle, and it looks as if there are different ruffles on the left and right sides.

This is extreme, but a ruffle like this one looks like this...

Think of the folds extending sideways, and maybe it's easier to see!

So, to summarize today's article...

・ Ruffles should be curved.

・ The shape changes depending on how it is tailored.

・ Be aware of the different angles from which to view it.

That's it!

When you go to a clothing store, please observe actual ruffles and practice!

Please look forward to my future posts!
