Help Switching From Steam to Patreon
Added 2022-12-08 14:59:16 +0000 UTCTo upgrade the Steam version of vamX
Brief Instructions:
Follow the download instructions in the normal Download page, but delete the VaMX\AddonPackages\vamX.1.99.var file when adding in the new version of vamX (for example vamX.1.26). You must also update Virt-a-Mate by running VaM_Updater.exe. If you don't have VaM_Updater.exe in your VaMX folder, download it from https://cdn.virtamate.com/Release/VaM_Updater.zip When opening VaMX allow All Sites and Plugins Network Access if you want to be able to browse the Internet and have sex toy plugins work.
The Download page link opens a list of the latest downloads, so after opening that link, scroll down a little to the first "Download vamX" post, click that post to open it, then scroll down to the "Download and Run vamX" section and follow the numbered steps.
Detailed Instructions:
To apply updates, you need to know the location of your VaMX game.
VaMX is located in your Steam Library\steamapps\common\VaMX folder.
This is most commonly at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\VaMX
This folder should contain the VaM executable. If you don't have a file VaM_Updater.exe in the same folder, you must download it from https://cdn.virtamate.com/Release/VaM_Updater.zip, extract it to your VaMX folder, then RUN VAM_UPDATER.EXE FROM YOUR VAMX FOLDER (IN ADDITION TO DOWNLOADING THE VAMX UPDATES!)
You can copy or move your VaMX folder to another location. VaMX runs best near the root of a drive, for example D:\VaMX.
Each Download page contains two vital packages:
vamX.1.xx and vamX.Base.1
You need to download both of these, and put them into your VaMX\AddonPackages folder. When copying these files to your AddonPackages folder, you'll need to overwrite the vamX.Base.1.var package. Don't extract, rename, or place these in subfolders!
The FIRST time you add a new vamX.1.x.var file you also MUST delete your vamX.1.99.var file (from the same AddonPackages folder).
Make sure you also download and run VaM_Updater from your VaMX folder!
When you first open VaMX after updating, you may be prompted with security options. If you want to be able to browser the Internet in VaMX, enable All Sites. If you want to use sex toy plugins like The Handy or Lovense toys, enable Plugin Network Access. You also must allow the new vamX plugin to run when prompted. Press Allow Always if prompted! If you are prompted to allow the plugin, you may need to restart VaMX, or reload the vamX scene, after allowing the plugin.
If you lose your Add vamX button, follow the Scene -> Help -> Custom Scene tutorial or the instructions here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/add-add-vamx-to-59891199
Comments
Sorry, the latest vamX requires VaM itself to be updated. I just modified the instructions above to also require you to run VaM_Updater to update the base VaM game engine. Let me know if this solves your problem.

2023-11-17 20:55:18 +0000 UTCSo, if you have Steam, you go to the latest vamX download page, which currently is 1.26, and then you just follow the large numbered steps to install. You only need to add the latest version of vamX, which changes every month, but is always the top download post in the vamX patreon page. Please send me a message if you get stuck, and let me know where. If you follow the numbered steps carefully in the download page, you should be just fine. The only unusual thing for Steam users is to remove the old vamX.1.99.var package from your AddonPackages folder.

2023-01-16 04:30:44 +0000 UTCIt can be very confusing for sure but to be absolutely sure about the locations of these files I would recommend a clean uninstall reinstall

2023-01-15 12:09:42 +0000 UTCEach consecutive update must be simply placed in the add-on packages folder along with the other files and the previous version deleted. However it is important also to consider saving those files in their own storage folder in case you should like to revert to a previous version

2023-01-15 12:08:48 +0000 UTCWhen you download the 1.26 or whichever version Do Not Extract the .var. Simply copy it in its raw form to the Addon Package folder where you should see other .var files. If you want 1.26 you will need to delete 1.25. Most important...Do Not Extract or alter the .var file. I'm happy to continue to help I any way I can!

2023-01-04 08:12:31 +0000 UTCSo this comment is on the help switching from Steam to Patreon, so I'm assuming that the posters here have vamX for Steam. If so, what you need to do is: 1) Download vamX, currently the latest is 1.25 from https://www.patreon.com/posts/75617273 (the "Download vamX 1.25" post 2 posts below this one). Make sure that you open that post or click Continue Reading, if you just click the Download vamX button on that post preview, it opens the category of Download vamX posts. To Download vamX, follow that link, or click the post title or "Continue Readings" to see the full post with download links. 2) Follow the instructions in the Download vamX 1.25 post, putting the var packages in your VaMX/AddonPackages folder. As explained in this post: VaMX is located in your Steam Library\steamapps\common\VaMX folder. This is most commonly at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\VaMX 3) Delete your vamX.1.99.var package (or move it somewhere else). A note, there is no "Creator" tab, if you have the Steam version you have the ability to do all Creator tasks, which is basically to switch into Edit mode, and edit all atoms, and create new atoms. These are advanced tasks for people who want to create scenes from scratch, but also some of this functionality is also used by vamX.

2023-01-04 05:47:30 +0000 UTCNot mad, just wondering!
Matthew Burnett
2023-01-03 19:49:58 +0000 UTCIn ALL the versions I have owned, downloaded, paid for, or demo'd, I have never once seen the "Creator" tab available.
Matthew Burnett
2023-01-03 19:49:27 +0000 UTCI had the Steam version and the demo and now I am so confused as to which ones to delete, uninstall, or amend, that my head is spinning!! lol
Matthew Burnett
2023-01-03 19:47:31 +0000 UTCThe download pathways to 1.25 are simply circular and do not show any executable files that don't just take me back around to this message stream, from which there are no executable download files...so...

2023-01-03 19:46:29 +0000 UTCDo you own VaMX from Steam? This requires Virt-A-Mate unless you already own it from Steam or Patreon. Learn more here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/new-to-virt-mate-40736332 If you purchased while it was available on Steam, you already have Creator

2022-12-12 01:25:09 +0000 UTCFixed, and the fix has been verified by a Steam user. Please download just the one vamX.1.25.var package file again from the Download vamX 1.25 page. Put that updated vamX.1.25.var package in and everything should work great. Finally! Sorry for the delay and confusion!

Michael Kukuk
2022-12-11 01:56:57 +0000 UTCI'm having the same problem. I downloaded both of the files. I Deleted both of the old files from my directory and moved the new files in. I started the game but didn't get any notification to allow the new addon but when turning on vamX I get the overlay over the menu and couldn't use anything. I renamed file vamx.1.25 to vamx1.26 and restarted the game this time I got the prompt to allow the addon but even after allowing the addon I still get the same overlay over the vamX menu. I have also already gone into the security settings and allowed addons.

2022-12-10 17:16:29 +0000 UTCI'm not sure of your question, did you purchase VaMX on Steam? If so you can use this Patreon version with your copy of VaMX. If you didn't you need both this Patreon version, plus the base VaM game from www.patreon.com/MeshedVR

2022-12-10 15:19:07 +0000 UTCI've been trying to add VAM 1.25 to my steam edition; but, no matter what I do, I see the "You need to enable permissions" instead of the VAM menu. I had them enabled. Tried disabling and re-enabling, even reloading the scene or the whole program in between and after. Nothing. I even tried renaming 1.25 to 1.99 and nothing. Yes, I did delete 1.99 and overwrite base.1. I tried in every combination. Nothing.
