Cunk on Britain - S1E5 'The Arse End of History'

Comments

I do remember seeing Brush Strokes when I was about 8 but I feel now that it's one of those Mandela Effect conspiracies or Brown Stained Bears that it may not have ever existed apart from the opening sequence where Jack the Ripper snogs a police woman which I still don't believe is real.

Colin Reid

Diane Morgan in 60's model garb... Amazing. Dressed as Margaret Thatcher... Confusing

Colin Reid

If you don’t react to an episode of Brush Strokes you’ve failed 😊

David JB

🥰

Victoria O'Donoghue

Great reaction with positive vibes and i 💯 agree with what Mike said at the end. I’ve been binge watching your reactions since i found your channel, the Still Game ones are my favourite. I’m glad you two found each other, you’re a lovely couple indeed.

James Ellison

Absolutely loved sitting through this series with you two (I'd not seen before). Love my history, so familiar with it all, & whilst not all exactly true, that, that isn't, has some wonderful truthful comedy-irony. I think many now realise Thatcher is one of the originators of our current problems, as she sold off most of our National assets in the 80s...quickly trawled up slavering rich investors, both from home & abroad. Now, we're paying x3+ for essential utilities, compared to mainland Europe, our Water Industry, in particular, a shambles, whilst its wealthy shareholders reap massive dividends from their massive prices...apparently untouchable bar piss-taking. Compare us with Norway, who did the opposite, invested their natural wealth for the People, now thriving. Cheers again, you guys....loving your stuff from Gloucestershire.

Karl Devereux

Slightly shaky I'd imagine seeing as Cunk on America doesn't exist 😉

Rach

Yes and the voice actor on The Wombles was Bernard Cribbens who also played the fella who Basil thought was the hotel inspector in Fawlty Towers and who beats him up.

ElvisLee

It’s a sad state of affairs when last year there was conversation being had about if people would rather have Margaret thatcher back as pm now considering 80 percent of the country hated her she done some horrible things and some are still lasting today but she had a stomach of (iron ) and stood her ground on her ideas even if most weren’t correct unlike government of today

Jackdeel

Sex pistols now with what's going on in Britain are more relevant now than ever, 'GOD SAVE THE QUEEN'

Dan Anderson

The pill brung us sluts, and the ultimate slut of them all Bonnie blue, could've just kept bringing awareness of pregnancy on TV and magazines etc 🤣

Dan Anderson

Miniskirts by today standard are when you can see the bumcheeks and if the women bent down you can see you expressing stuff 🤣🤣🤣 in 50 years a skirt is gunna be just a napkin 🤣

Dan Anderson

Loved the sentiments at the end guys ❤

Steve with a beard

A yellow Chopper! Never seen one of those. I had a boring blue one. Absolutely agree about 70's & 80's. Great times. If I could go back in time I would. Not to change anything but just to experience it all again as it was.

Ian Warren

The Wombles of Wimbledon Common, are we

Ian Warren

There's very little love lost where I come from, either (Tottenham). So she did mange to unite us in something!

Paul08031977

The Wombles (at around 15:40 in the video) are indeed a real band. The music was written & recorded by musician Mike Batt, and they toured the UK. I was rather young when they were out and I went to see them live. They were throwing sweets out into the audience, and performed for about 1.5 hours. They must have been sweating inside those costumes! The band were based on the animated children's show, which in turn came from the Elisabeth Beresford children's novels from 1968 onward.

Ian Warren

💯 on what you said at the end mike , ✌️

TheHigh

You always refer back to things you’ve seen on other reactions and piece together little bits you missed before, for example the still game thing. And we love you for it!

JK 88

You guys should watch Last One Laughing (British) on Prime. Features some of your favourites like Bob Mortimer… and season 2 is going to have Diane Morgan in it.

iAmScott

Erections, Tim. Erections.

Jeffrey44

Underground, overground, Wombling free

Jamie Derry

The next show to watch is Cunk on Earth (5 episodes). This includes the sections about the USA.

Julian

M&J have about 50 Wikipedia pages to read after this one 😎

Julian

Fun fact: In the Royal Navy, the Official terms are that a Ship has a ''Pointy End'' and an 'Arse End''

Danny Heywood

A clue as to how a lot of people felt about Margaret Thatcher in the UK, is that when she died in 2013, the song 'Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead' raced to the top of the charts. Where I grew up, you were expected to despise her, which is why I tended to keep it quiet that I share her birthday. Well said Mike. That's the one great thing about the Internet and things like YouTube and your channel, is that it helps to make the distance between us all irrelevant and allows us to laugh and be moved by the same things and see that we're really not all that different.

ElvisLee

There’s an amazing short sketch where Matt Berry, Bridget Christie, Peter Serafinowicz and Kevin Eldon (it was on his It’s Kevin show) amongst others do an almost perfect recreation of the famous Sex Pistols interview while dressed as Amish

Kieran B

The ‘my mate Paul’ bits have been a Cunk element from the very start, so I suspect they’re pre-written but some could be improv

Kieran B

There’s a few specials and shorts - I think Cunk on Christmas counts as part of this… time to get the Christmas sweaters out again. Cunk on America is from Cunk on Earth mostly, it’s not a separate thing

Kieran B

I was born in 1964 and I can confirm, that for me at least, the 70's and 80's were both fucking brilliant! growing up in the 70's we'd be playing out, making dens, going on bike rides (I had a yellow Raleigh Chopper!) making bonfires on Nov 5th, winters were cold and summers were hot, and long! and the music was great, it was the age of glam rock, the sweet, slade, wizard, Gary Glitter ( sorry) and T-rex to name but a few, there were no mobile phones, PC's or even VHS, only 3 channels on the telly, how did we manage? LOL! and then going into the 80's, I started work at 16, got my first car AND lost my virginty at 19..Woo Hoo! and again, the music was fantastic, the 80's were the era of funk music which I loved and still do, and me and my mates would be out at the fun pubs and clubs chasing girls and hitting the dancefloors, it was a great time to be young, I feel for the young now, they might have all this technology to enjoy, which is great of course, but they'll never know the simple magic times of back then, I'm 61 now and my bodies knackered from a lifetime of manual work, but I'll always be greatful to have been born when I was....Cheers everyone.

Simon Cross

"They weren't even allowed to get elections, which is why they had to make do with a stiff upper lip" is such a good line 😂

Tim

Mike & Jess, you are both legend's. Great reaction video guys as always ✌️

Mark R

Well said MIke what a great way to end the show! all in it together!

Paul

I was going to say that 😀

Paul Finn

Same, started during Covid, its an insane addiction!

Sean Williams

8 top 40 hits! :)

paul mac

The older I get the more news I watch to the point where it's almost all consuming these days - and yet, it adds absolutely nothing to my life....

paul mac

It was beautiful. The woman can certainly sing 🥹

Josh Read

Mike's expression from 15:03 to 15:27 :D

Captain Cardboard

Jess kickin in with a bit of Otis Redding there at the end ❤️ Good job guys, as always xx

Emma Edwards

‘Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols’ figures highly in numerous Greatest Albums Of All Time listings. Phenomenal record that changed the music industry in the UK in the late 70s. The lead singer was Johnny Rotten (real name John Lydon). The band has just completed a sell-out European tour, with three of the original members but minus Lydon. Now about to head for the USA. Saw them in their prime in 1977. Best gig of my life. Any of their hits would make for a REALLY interesting reaction.

Tom

These youngsters!

Captain Cardboard

No they aren't the same 🤣 they're David Cameron and Nick Clegg 🤣

Nicholas Ferguson

You guys are going to be on safer ground with "Cunk on America"

James Aston

Mike, don't worry The Wombles weren't a live, touring band where the poor sods had to wear full-size furry costumes for 2-3 hours. They only did a few chart hits on TV promoting the song. The Wombles was a children's stop/motion puppet series on TV in the 1970's. They lived on Wimbledon Common. It was good.

Fordy7169

It's Robert Peston. What did he lie about?

Dan G, Leicester

And he was correct, that host was a right dirty fucker

Cedric Bombs

The Sex Pistols (not Pistons Mike LOL) were on early that live early-evening TV show you saw, where the lead singer Johnny Rotten(John Lydon) said 'shit'. The joke Philomena put over is that this was the controversial word that caused the uproar when it was in fact guitarist Steve Jones calling the host a 'dirty fucker', which was particularly taboo at 6 o'clock in the evening in 1976.

Fordy7169

The most shocking thing in this episode is Mike not recognising Shania Twain!

Emily

They are the best patreon I've ever subscribed to 🤗

Josh Read

Gross 🤮

jim78

Margaret Thatcher was the best PM we had. It's a shame we don't someone like her instead of Keir Starmer

Nicholas Ferguson

cunked 👍

TheHigh

Him being a man of the people's obviously a joke 🤣

Fred bates

It’s always funny to take the p@?s out of yourself, it makes all the serious stuff more bearable

Rob Brown

Ted Heath has had multiple people claim he molested them as children and sadly I’ve been down the rabbit hole and I believe it 😖. That’s the bad feeling you got Mike I think he was a wrongun I think

Erica

Hey guys 👋🏼 only listened to the intro so far but just so you’re aware, there’s no Cunk on America. The video you were initially going to watch before you decided to do the full series, is only a complication of clips from the other shows where she’s mentioned America or an American person. Unless you wanted all the American bits in one hit? I would avoid it though, the editing on that video is awful and it’s only gonna show bits you’ve already seen if you’re watching all the others. Just letting you know!

Emma Edwards

Try again on energy costs in the UK 😘 we can't stop complaining about it. Especially here in the Highlands of Scotland. It's extortionate here!

Nicholas Ferguson

Watch the clip of Cherie Blair (new PMs wife) opening the front door to the National press early in the morning that he won the election . Too funny . She clearly forgot that there could be cameras and had just dragged herself out of bed 😂😂

TheWombles were from a children’s TV programme, I remember the power cuts every night and getting the candles out

Louise Miller

Learning about yuppies now will help you with OFAH in future 🔮

Jay Lo

The wombles was a kids show, then they made music (sort of) and had a few hits for some reason.

Johnnyenglish

I've only been subbed for a few months, but you're the first reactors that I've subbed to where I'm legit watching everything regardless as to whether I've watched the TV show before or not. Just finished your Office UK reactions. Keep up the great work.
