2025-08-25 08:32:14 +0000 UTCI don't like The Streets and really like them at the same time its a weird for me. I'm a true hip-hop fan so I really hate the awful rapping he does say compared to genius rappers like Chester P, Ramson Badbonez and Smellington Piff. But at the same time, the streets always deliver really good tunes

THAT BALD ESSEX BLOKE
2025-08-23 23:23:53 +0000 UTCThe Streets = Mike Skinner, who wrote the soundtrack to the first Inbetweeners movie, writing classics such as "No Problemo" and "Pussy Patrol" (not a joke).

2025-08-23 23:17:04 +0000 UTCJess, my nieces are really into k pop demon hunters atm and I agree that the soundtrack is actually quite good! ๐

2025-08-23 21:11:11 +0000 UTCMost Streets songs are happy and upbeat; they are just a bunch of Stoners that started on Pirate Radio.

2025-08-23 18:19:55 +0000 UTCOr they're astounded that this tripe beat the Beatles, let alone the other options... Okay, he wrote nice words, but he can't sing, rap, and the chorus is appalling. If he was truly a great, he wouldn't have disappeared into obscurity so quickly

2025-08-23 18:06:43 +0000 UTCA Grand Don't Come For Free kind of tapped into the zeitgeist of post-millennium, pre-recession Britain, where the nineties afterglow/hangover had gone. The subject matter is mundane, the lyrics are intentionally inarticulate and the vocals slightly dissonant, all the samples came off a royalty-free sample CD, everything feels a bit uneasy; the whole record is the sound of post-cool Britannia where all the swagger and carefree innocence had finally dissipated and been replaced with a kind of malaise. It was to pop music what The Office and Peep Show were to comedy around the same era.

2025-08-23 17:59:56 +0000 UTCI remember this song clearly. I was going through a break up at the time and my heart was broken. Since then though i have been with my partner for 23 years, have a nice home, good job and 2 beautiful children. Like the song says, Plenty more fish in the sea.

2025-08-23 15:18:51 +0000 UTCAgreed. That album (A Grand Donโt Come For Free) hits almost as hard as Music For The Jilted Generation. But not quite as hard ๐๐๐ป

2025-08-23 14:28:28 +0000 UTCWeirdly he's a family friend of ours. Mad watching him blow up.

2025-08-23 14:03:31 +0000 UTCA Grand Don't Come For Free is a great storytelling album. The Streets have some much better songs than this, this is one of the few sad ones. Turn The Page is probably my favourite Streets song. Mike is like an urban poet. They have a few silly songs too (which they usually release as the singles).
Karlos
2025-08-23 14:02:53 +0000 UTCSeriously though this is a concept album I believe where you totally have to play the full album in order and all the songs lead on and pick up from other parts. Lights are blinding my eyes , is another song from these which many of us related to

2025-08-23 12:03:05 +0000 UTCWhy are they uploading none full versions of their songs to their own YouTube channel and calling it the officla music video? It didn't say official music video, but it's missing a verse! I'm fumin ๐ก

2025-08-23 11:15:47 +0000 UTCSuch a great song. Never expected the negative comments on this one to be honest, but I guess some people like to make everyone else miserable, by shouting how much they hate things.

2025-08-23 10:49:58 +0000 UTCDoes that one resonate with you from personal experience lol

Dango247
2025-08-23 10:09:32 +0000 UTCThe Streets became huge in the UK partly because he was a push back on the manufactered pop music that was everywhere at the time, his unconventional and unpolished style was like a breath of fresh air. Its a shame you didnt listen to "has it come to this" (original pirate material) first as it would give you a much better understanding how he blew up in the first place.
James Welsh
2025-08-23 10:06:22 +0000 UTCBlinded by the lights my fave,i saw them at reading festival years ago had the crowd going nuts had the crowd doing allsorts..

2025-08-23 09:54:54 +0000 UTCThis is one of 11 songs from the album 'A Grand Don't Come For Free'. If you listen to the songs in order they tell a story. It's beautiful.

2025-08-23 09:48:22 +0000 UTCI was well up for the reaction and then I see the weird negativity in the comments and it puts me off. Why do people do this?

2025-08-23 09:35:24 +0000 UTCI understand not being into them but people seem to actively hate them ๐คท

2025-08-23 09:09:21 +0000 UTCI did like some of The Streets, Original Pirate Material takes me back. Happened to see them live at T in The Park too. I was never a fan of this particular song though - but I do think it's representative of their work. As in the topics are style, but this one maybe isn't the best introduction to sell them. I haven't listened to them in donkey's years though.
Andy
2025-08-23 09:07:49 +0000 UTCloving all the crying in the comments. also never heard this version either
Alex Miller
2025-08-23 09:03:01 +0000 UTCWell technically you might of reacted to Mike Skinner the singer before as he wrote a lot of the music for the inbetweeners movie.
William Stewart
2025-08-23 09:00:53 +0000 UTCI guess this is the "Radio" edit or, maybe, the Top of The Pops family friendly version. Yes, I agree, the sudden tip into anger in that verse makes it even more real
Andy Oliver
2025-08-23 08:55:55 +0000 UTCSkinny Mike and the rest of The Streets. Great bunch of guys. I used to be a friend of a friend of the reserve drummer in the '70s. All gone now of course. RIP. I remember this video sparking a debate at the time, should dogs be allowed in cinemas (or should K9s be allowed in movie theaters as an American would say). Obvious to say now, of course they shouldn't, dirty disease carrying animals. I look back at this video and I'm thankful that dogs were legally barred from cinemas in 2006. Good work The Streets

2025-08-23 08:32:15 +0000 UTCOof. Listening to stuff like this after a break up was rough as a teenager ๐ it was the cliche song the friend group would send each other ๐ฌ
Freddie
2025-08-23 08:31:40 +0000 UTCThere's a whole verse missing ?? Arguably the verse that makes this song.

2025-08-23 08:11:51 +0000 UTCIf you enjoyed this song you'd likely love the whole album it came from in your own time/off camera - 'A Grand Don't Come for Free'

2025-08-23 07:19:00 +0000 UTCI fucking love the album this was taken from, will never understand those who didn't like The Streets. Great reaction as always guys. Give the album a listen to in your own time, you will love it. Have a blessed day :)
