Taskmaster - S1E3 'The Poet and the Egg'

Comments

I am new here. And I am so happy you react to the best show! 😊 In case you didn’t know. Because of the award Tim has won this show exists. Alex was jealous because he couldn’t be at the Edinburg fringe that year. Then his best friend won. So he decided to give his own award to other comedians the next year. So he set tasks to them for one year and then they made a live show in Edinburgh called The Taskmaster a year later.

Qrs

Please let me know if you need any suggestions for London or Cotswolds!

ClaireA

People often accuse reaction channels of not being authentic. To those people you should introduce them to this one and in particular this video. Incredibly moving and emotional and genuine. My thoughts are with you both going through this. Similarly my mum died just before her granddaughter’s 2nd birthday and it remains gutting to this day that they will only know each other through the memories of others.

Garry Allen

You guys have to start watching Friday Night Dinner

Mushq Grams

Knew you'd love the show and this episode highlights why when I first recommended it I said you have to watch the full episodes to appreciate it.

Terrahawk

You got it absolutely right. You have to watch the entire episode and series to get Taskmaster. Random clips do not do it justice. And the great thing is that by the end of a series, you come to like all the contestants in that season.

Wojciech Żyliński

What a sweet sentiment! I think I will give it to her when she graduates 😍 Thank you for this beautiful comment, now I need to grab a tissue real quick🥺💜

Jess

👆Boop💜

Jess

We have had such a fun time picking out the items and feeling like we are a part of the show.

Jess

Thank you for sharing your story. I love remembering the good memories I have of my mom, and I am very thankful that she is still with us. I am sorry for your loss my friend🥰

Jess

He has hasn't he? 🥰

Jess

Its great you've done so well Mike, life's been tough for you but you've turned into a great person bro

Central Hub

I lost a relative to vascular dementia last year before christmas its not easy at all. But remember the great times you've had with each other. Life is cruel things only happen to the best kindest people unfortunately.

Central Hub

Both of your personal items were really lovely. I hope you continue to bring your own items in the future episodes as well, it's a nice way to know you both better and add a lot more to the reaction video

Clowd

Also….. it wasn’t hard to miss that reaction video getting a bit heavy around the ten minute mark. Thoughts with you both (and your family) at that moment. Difficult times but you’ll be ok 🙂👊🏻 Sending love ❤️

Duncan

That’s fucking beautiful! “It’s really unfair that I have to go first! Can’t he go first??” “Ok….. Romesh I require you to guess first.” Genuine LOL moment. Shenanigans! Thoroughly enjoying watching this all over again with you guys.

Duncan

Sorry to hear about your mum, Jess. My gran is in the late stages of dementia at the moment so I know how hard it can be.

Mark McKeown

"Using only the items on this table, get this egg as high as possible." My immediate thought was to climb on the table (you are now an item "on this table") and just stand up on the table holding the egg above your head at ceiling height.

Tass

Love you two

Tonia Laws

Roisin brought a dictionary as her meaningful contribution because dictionaries are full of 'meanings.'

Tonia Laws

This made me tear up - such a lovely comment! So sorry for your loss and may he rest in peace! Best wishes to you and your close ones 🙏

Shuayb

Jess, as soon as you told the story about your mother i had to stop and comment. My dad had FrontoTemporal Dementia, as it happens it was his funeral yesterday (the day you uploaded this video). Such an awful disease, cherish every moment you can with your mother. We enjoyed the good days with my dad, and didn't blame him for the bad days. The butterfly story is lovely. Stay strong.

Marc Dawson

The contestants make the show. Some seasons are better than others, but IMO they are all fun to watch.

trev

🖤🤍💚💙💜

TheHigh

Great reaction as a l ways...5 points to Jess.....we're up to season 19 and still no repetitive tasks..there are some themes..always art tasks..always something with an egg but always completely different...also records take about 3 hours so lots cut out..probably why we didn't get Rousins explanation for her task

Paul Liversage

I agree that their comedic timing is on point in the studio segments, but you have to bear in mind that it's purely down to the studio segments being somewhat scripted, they are first rehearsed without an audience, that's when they come up with their jokes or puns. Gotta take the things you see on TV with a pinch of salt. Not having a dig at the show, love Taskmaster, nothing wrong with enjoying it, just gotta be aware of the fact that it's faked to a degree.

Δ Tessellate

Thank you both for sharing emotional parts of your lives. If more people were brave enough to be as open and vulnerable, the world would be a better place.

Andrea Logan

Love Mike and Jess opening up about personal things, sending lots of love to you both! Also great reaction as always

Boydern

Love you both. You bring me comfort in times when I feel lonely to be honest. Thank you for your videos. I look forward to them, always. ❤️

Andy B

Boop... and one more Boop.

Dr. Zoidberg

Who’d think a piston would provoke such an emotional response from Mike and Jess.

iAmScott

Love taskmaster

Gsmith

Boop everyone

Jimmy

Taskmaster is my comfort show. Watched it so mamy times. Love watching it with you guys x

Rachie

ITS FRANK WHOS THE OG

Darren Geoghegan

Loved the 3D effect at the end Jess

The Puzzler 99

From what I read somewhere Josh kept the wedding ring for a few months but eventually gave it back

William Stewart

There’s actually taskmaster board game + task books available

Andi Main

Remember, Jess... the stories you tell Ally about your mum will be worth more than you could imagine. Keep the butterfly around and put it in her pocket when she graduates 💙 Mike, you've become an incredible human being. I have no doubt you would have done regardless of your youth. Inspirational all round, friends!

Daniel Cooper-O'Reilly

Boop! 👉🏼👃

Emma Edwards

I wasn't expecting to be welling up watching a Taskmaster reaction - you're both fantastic people!! I'm so glad you're enjoying this show - I remember binging the first few series during the COVID lockdowns and it really cheered me up.

Chris Strevens

Guys, I am so moved by your stories. Jess, I wish your Mum all the very best and my heart goes out to you. You're both great and should be proud of who you are. Love you both 💙

Mark Tremaine

Well, that reaction was a rollercoaster! Without giving anything away to others who haven't watched this yet, you had me crying 11-12 mins in - big hugs to the both of you. And watching you both laughing together at various shows is very nostalgic for me (and I suspect for most of your other followers too), as it reminds me of sitting with my own parents as a teen and enjoying comedy shows with them. xxx

Carol

The £16 voucher Greg gets from Tim are national book tokens which is basically a gift card that is accepted at book stores (most of them anyways), the go to gift for book obsessed children in the 90s... or that might have been just me

Karina Alderson

So, the new season of Last One Laughing UK has a few of your newly found British Comics in it. Namely Bob Mortimer, Romesh Ranganathan, Roisin Conaty, David Mitchell and Diane Morgan. It's also presented by Jimmy Carr. It will be on Amazon Prime in 2026. Something to look forward to.

Paul

God damn your intro today hit hard, major props to yous for being vulnerable and REAL in an internet full of phony twats <3 So glad yous are enjoying this so much, you can probably see why so many YT commenters were badering you to do this show. Regarding the fear factor and being fed up with things being samey, there's not a whole lot of that over the 19 (so far) series of Taskmaster! The beauty of this show is some seemingly boring tasks on paper can play out in hilarious ways regardless, and even in series 19 there's some absolutely wild tasks folk are asked to do. I don't do a whole lot of proper guffawing these days, and there's so many moments in each series that get me to do so! Your also not wrong about the seeing wee clips in shorts or compilations etc, seen other folk checking out those sorta things and it doesn't hit you the same without the context. Anyway, essay over lmao and PS I also loved that outro moment from Jess hahahaha <3 Edit: oh and the poet and the egg thing, Tim Key writes poetry and there was an egg, nothing deep there :D

EuanTyumi

Haven't finished the reaction yet, but having got to the sad bit, I want to say that you're both such lovely people. I wish you all the best for the future (especially Jess' Mother). However, I think you should have put some Coldplay over the emotional bits. It's what Karl Pilkington would have wanted. xx

Jay

Great reaction guys I’m so glad to hear it’s one of your favourite shows and for both of you to say it! Wow! Each series is like a journey and you will love it differently each time. It’s sad to say goodbye to some characters you’ve seen but always remember from us British-folk who’ve already watched it that there’s so much to enjoy! Thanks again as always

Craig Jackson

First Series had the best guests but they were still finding their feet with the tasks and show as a whole.

Zr0w3n

Excellent episode and reaction.

Richard

I can assure you that the tasks if anything get more creative and ingenious as the show continues through later seasons. But I've forgotten this first one so really enjoying watching it back. Truly lovely submissions for the prize task by the way 💖

Schpleeb

Aw you guys 🥺 big hugs! P.S. the dictionary is meaningful because it’s full of meanings 😊

Emma Edwards

What a great episode, and a great reaction. I was laughing out loud so much throughout. Jess doing the boop at the end was a perfect ending. This is my favourite thing you're doing on the channel now.

Patrick Coyle

Love watching you guys react to taskmaster. Both of you have won the first task for sure. Positive vibes always with you guys. Stay blessed 🤘🏽❤️

Niile Creary

I love this show - they always have great line-ups in the these things. I've seen the early seasons before, but enjoying rewatching with y'all.

Tim

Know you guys don't really do film reactions but Tim wrote and starred in an INCREDIBLE film released this year called The Ballad Of Wallis Island. Really funny, sweet and emotional. It's an easy 5* you should check it out.

DDDPPP

There is also a children's taskmaster. Ive never seen it so I'm unsure if its good or not.

Josh Read

Jess your Elvis top is awesome 🤗 what's your favourite song of his? That was a very touching and beautiful story about your mum 3 generations of ladies connected by art ❤️ I was very much like you Mike when I was younger too so I know your struggles and triumphs

Josh Read

These are a lot of fun to watch. So many great lineups to come in the future too.

Julian

Very well said, my thoughts exactly 🤗

Josh Read

Big hugs guys ❤️ It's great rewatching this show with you both, so glad you love it too. Boop!

Emily

They might be used to our shows only having a few short seasons, lol

Jamie Derry

From what i understand the celebs do genuinly get the end "prizes" no clue what they do with them, or how long they keep them of course.

Jamie Derry

Take my money, I will stay as a patreon as long as you react to this show. Every single season gets better and better.

Spencer Vincent

Resting Ramesh face, lmfaowrofl

Jamie Derry

I love how much you're enjoying Taskmaster. You DO know there's 181 episodes to date of JUST the UK version, right? One episode a week is going to take you 3 and a half years, and that's not counting the 2 news seasons every year during those 3 and a half years. Look forward to that journey with you. :) And it only gets better each time.

Kenneth Swan

I watched an Interview with Romesh about the wedding ring proze and he said Josh actually questioned giving it back to him as he'd won it fair and square x

Dawn

Mike, I'm sure I'm not speaking out of turn when I say that we all love the man you are today. That's why we're here supporting you. That part was really moving to me and it says a lot that you had the guts to share it with us. Likewise with Jess and her mother. That was very touching. You're both lovely beautiful genuine people.

ElvisLee

Excuse me, this version cuts out the bits where they throw to or come back from the breaks. That's a shame.

Jeffrey44

I just had to pause it and say I can't tell but if that butterfly picture is not laminated you should definitely think about doing that. I can't stand the thought of something so precious being destroyed. What a sweet story. You guys are just the best.

sjay

A glorious reaction to the episode, for me, where this series really lifts off. It's about here the panel realize the format allows them to bicker, argue and make fools of themselves like kids in front of the audience, with Greg being able to switch between father, headmaster and outright tyrant king (and he excels at it, it's a perfect bit of casting). From here on out the whole thing just soars. You've got so many legendary moments to come across the whole series, and I'm sure many taskmaster fans have bits they can't wait for you to reach. It's a delight to watch you laugh at this. Oh . . . and your prize task at the start . . . beautiful. Jess, you're amazing. The catharsis of a good blub before the hilarity ensued was something I didn't know I needed. Thanks to you both!

Dryfesands

What you both said at the beginning, guys, is the best part of any reactions you've done. The honesty and vulnerability you shared will mean so much to so many people, who have been through/are going through similar things. The massive amount of people you have that find some comfort in sitting down each night and watching these shows with you is a testament to the incredible human-beings you are and how people are grateful for you both being in their lives (even virtually). Thank you both x

Patrick Nicholls

You are hitting the nail on the head with why this show has such a massive fanbase - the connection you form with the contestants, the variety of the tasks, the competitiveness, the momentous highs and crushing lows, and Greg and Alex excelling in their roles. The first series is a perfect introduction to the show, yet I'd only rank it about 11th out of the 19 series they've done, so if you're loving this, be excited that you've got even better still to come

DS292

The dictionary is meaningful because it contains the definition (meaning) of words.

Ste Rawlings

Agree Mike. Greg suits this ‘role!, he’s not the most natural stand up.

Scott

This really warmed my heart! Thank you friend🥰

Jess

Boom I’ve waited all day for this lol

Frizz

There is an official Taskmaster Board Game you could play...

adamski2108

Jess, I just want to say how deeply moved I am by the way you shared about your mum. I found myself shedding tears listening to your story, because it was so filled with love and tenderness. Please know that you and your family are not walking this path alone — we, your community, are your extended family. Our thoughts, prayers, and blessings are with you, especially with your dear mum, who has clearly raised such a remarkable daughter and human being. 💕 May God’s peace surround you both in this journey 🤍✝️ Isaiah 46:4 (NLT) “I will be your God throughout your lifetime—until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you. 🤍✝️🌿

Kingy

Cheers

bobby g

And... Mike's set me off now ffs 😵‍💫

Si

The dictionary brings meaning to words and language. That's the joke and why everyone groaned. Because its a shit joke 🤣

Tro Janors

10 mins in and now I'm a mid forties northern bloke tearing up with Jess's prize offering 💜

Si

Also beautiful intro. X big hugs guys xx ❣️

Dawn

I love rewatching this show with you both!

Harry

It’s meaningful - a dictionary is literally full of meaning(s) 😄

Kieran B

Anyone told them yet that a dictionary is meaningful because it has meanings in it? Or maybe they’ll realise after I type this.

Julian

Christ on a bike! Your prize task 😭 100 points ❤️

Darrell Pringle

The dictionary... Has the most meanings in it. It has the meaning of all the words 😂

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

Can't wait for you guys to enjoy the evolution of this show!

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

Let’s goo with ep3!

AWR93

I assume you've been told that Alex Horne next to Greg Davies is the creator of this show so he has literally given himself the role hes taken x

Dawn

ive been refreshing for the last 2 hours hoping it would pop up haha

jaq515

Yes, been waiting all week for this :)

Chris Harding

That Elvis sweater is fantastic. I need to get one!

ElvisLee

Been waiting for more Taskmaster! It's so good to react to, and so British and silly. There are so many moments I can't wait to see you watch. I'm gonna enjoy your reaction with a beer :)

Simon Charlie

Pass me the popcorn!
