Only Fools and Horses - S1E3 'Cash and Curry'

It's 7am. What are you on about?

Comments

Welcome in Ashley!

RegenerationNationTV

Mike will the turtle neck and medallion 🤣🤣

Ashley Emery

I have just joined on here after watching all your YouTube stuff!! Love it

Ashley Emery

i LOVE your reaction to the con reveal, open mouthed for the rest of the episode lol john sullivans writing is legendary, this is a great episode

Ricky

'done up like a kipper' - good knowledge! It was Karl Pilkington on Teaching English with Ricky Gervais. Karl was roleplaying working in a shop and he got pissed off that a tourist couldn't speak english and ripped him off

sean

I'm jonesing for the proper theme music.

Terrahawk

Good to see mike dressed up like del including the chain lol

BRAVEHEART

being able to see americans watch and love this program filled me with joy. Growing up with this was the best thing ever! Will always be the greatest english tv series ever.

Itz GRNY

I was definitely expecting that ending, it was a little obvious really.

Ian Warren

I thought as soon as they both said, "I won't give up the money/statue until I have the statue/money in my hands" it was rather obvious they were in it together and what they were up to.

Ian Warren

Yeah a guy said he'd sell me his old car for a monkey a while back, took me ages to break into the zoo and get one and then he refused to sell the car. Had to take the monkey back.

Ian Warren

Mike would have fitted in the Nags Head no problemo

Tass

Mike looks a bit like Del Boy

Smiley Matt

Someone send that man a flat cap 😆

Smiley Matt

This was only used on the first series

Jason Rhodes

Cant wait for the proper intro, anyone know how many episodes in before the classic tune was introduced?

Mark E

im guessing would have to pay everytime it aired and be expensive

Col Boro

I hope someone gets him a traditional flat cap that would be perfect lol

Katherine with a K

The website they're watching it on has all the specials in the right order.

Keith Pratt

I'd recommend looking up a watch order for the series, as it goes on there will be specials,

adam marshall

In the uk its very rare they play money/pink Floyd in that scene. Not sure if its down to copyright.

james mcloughlin

Incredible call-back from Mike there re ‘done up like a kipper’ and Karl Pilkington. Ironically, the context Karl was talking about in that skit was tourists getting ripped off whereas this episode is quite the opposite in a way. Also, can’t figure out if Mike purposely sported a Del Boy-esque outfit or is getting subconsciously inspired. PS - I am more of a Peep Show fan but hoping I can build some bridges here 😂 enjoying both

Ash C

As dawn has recommended some of the slang terms for money 1, a nicker is a pound 2, a score is twenty pounds 3, a pony is twenty five pounds 4, a bullseye is fifty pounds 5, a ton is one hundred pounds 6, a monkey is five hundred pounds 7, a grand is one thousand pounds Hope that helps you both

Billy

Even £17 is too dear for that date, looks like a casting, probably plaster. Grandad would've set the boys straight if we saw him this episode - rather than loose his telly. Good early episode.

emu cat

you are in for a treat and they was making them right up into the 2000s and lots of specials

Col Boro

I’m not the biggest fan of this show , it’s quite good and there are some very funny moments but it’s worth watching just for Mike’s smooth outfit 🤣, next week have a cocktail with an umbrella in it

Erica

Wicket keeper is a Cricket player btw - India’s national sport. Anyway I’ve never seen OFAH before, I’m only 40 so a bit before my time, and I’m from NZ. But I’m really enjoying it!

SimonNZ

Hi Mike, jess just for your info you might wanna look up the slang turns for certain amounts of money in London. Like a "pony" "score" etc. A knicker is a pound etc. Might help with some of the terminology especially the new theme tune which has words when it finally kicks in. 💕

Dawn

The actual tune only started with season two, as the beeb didn’t overly invest in series one as it wasn’t felt that it was “right” type of show for the bbc. Only when it was renewed did they give them a budget 🤣

Jude

best tv show ever made they just need to get to second series

Col Boro

They said they couldn’t meet and they literally did meet 5 mins into the episode!

Paul Archibald

I’m surprised Jess didn’t get the plot twist, she’s been quite good with things in the past, not you Mike, sorry!

Paul Archibald

It's fantastic to see you're viewing the proper versions of these episodes, because on the DVD, this episode replaces the Pink Floyd song Money with generic music. That's something that occurs a few times on the Dvds, and in some cases they cut bits out due to the music which caused some scenes to make little sense.

ElvisLee

It's quite jolly, you can easily dance to it. It's fine.

Jeffrey44

Ep 5 and 6 were the weakest in the first series imo. Still can’t wait for every Wednesday

Ominous

Don’t remember that theme tune hopefully the only fools and horses one kicks in soon because it’s a big part of the experience 💙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Bcam007

Your slowly morphing into a mix of jack victor and winston defo some david brent now delboy! 🤣 Great episode!!

Theloyalmuppet

Mr ramm did Mike up like a kipper. This is actually one of the weakest episodes of OFAH for me, saying that though its still good. Mike in his Delboy starter kit outfit. The title is a play on the phrase cash and carry.

Gary

I really can't wait for this intro song to change to what it's meant to be, also, Mike going for his del boy look? 😂

Craig Brown

Back again. 1am and I can’t sleep. So what better then to watch this again haha. Will watch tomorrow aswell. But love how much you are both enjoying this Remember, I’m the guy that said, this will become your favourite show ever!! Ricky Gervais and and inbetweeners is amazing. Literally the best so far. But I’m confident this will be something you genuinely do want to watch again away from the cameras haha. Crazy impressive show.

Mark Rudd

You've got the outfit, how about using a photo of the set as a backdrop for the intro/outro for the reactions? https://www.bbc.co.uk/webarchive/https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.co.uk%2Farchive%2Fempty_sets_sitcoms%2Fzj98wty (About half way down the list)

ThatITBloke

Am I the only person who doesn't mind the original title music?

Charlie

omg was just about to to go to bed thank you

Don don

Mike youre a effin legend for wearing the Del Boy get up!! Jess is too 😂

Craigid Dave

as soon as i pressed play i thought the same thing and that he had come dressed up like he has in other reactions before ,but once it was not even mentioned in the intro ,i realized it was just his natural clothes and style ,also it is just been 2 episodes ,so there is no way they could know Del's full style just yet.

Andrew

LOL! I can't believe it took you guys so long to realize the con.

zenting

I hope the rest of them all have the licenced music, the royalty free versions really trash some of the episodes. Especially "Time On Our Hands"...

Charlie

Love the del boy get-up mike🤣 Don't like the opening tune at all . But it's not like we haven't heard it a thousand times I guess . Hope we get rock and chips with James Buckley arfter Fools

Dango247

Getting the version with Pink Floyd's Money is amazing

Robert Donohoe

Mike definitely needs a flat cap to complete his del boy look! 😂 😂

David Marriott-Hallam

Brilliant

Rich

It's not the class system, it's actually the caste system, and it was a real thing, though it was outlawed in India. Even so, it does still continue to have some influence in Indian society.

Paul08031977

Depends whether you plant the bacon seeds first or the egg seeds.

emu cat

After the hussle Mike is like "was the stuff even true about low and high class not being able to speak to each other?" They'd have your money twice dude 😂

Karlos

Is Mike dressed like del boy on purpose?

Brad Johnson

I was waiting for the penny to drop for you guys 😁

Stephen Huxtable

Of course their plan is against the law. Dunno about America but very recently (ongoing) car finance firms have essentially been found guilty of the same thing. Charging interest on commission without notifying the customer. Been illegal for a while now but payouts are coming soon. Thinking about it in America you'd probably get a medal for conning someone like that.

SomeBSName

its the best comedy possibly best tv show ever made anywhere followed closely by Red dwarf once you get to love the characters the jokes get funnier and im sure they will appreciate it more once the theme tune changes to hooky street

Col Boro

Genius of John Sullivan. Happy, sad, plot twists and endings you’re not expecting. All making you laugh along the way

John Warren

The guy with the swivel head was obviously reading his lines from prompts. To be fair he had a lot to say.

John Hastie

fantastic outfit mike :D

TheHigh

Mike love the look,fantastic

Louise Miller

I’m so happy you’re both in to this show, and actually ‘get it’ Most Americans don’t enjoy only fools due to a lot of the humour and references being a bit too English. This is gonna be a good journey 👌🥳

Richard rowley

There is language in this but John Sullivan hid it in cockney rhyming slang because he knew the stuck up posh BBC executives wouldn't understand it. Absolutely brilliant move by Sullivan. Example being "Plonker", which is a wrote as a substitute for the word "dick".

JokerDanny

Theoretically, Bacon.

Jue H

Sorry, I was £202.87 out.

Static CentreHalf

£2000 in 1981 is apparently the equivalent of £9,797.13 today, which is $13,197.45

Daz Parker

Mike "Del Boy" looking sharp in that red turtleneck 😂

Josip Buretić

What came first, the bacon or the egg?

Julian

Same here,I just came home and see my notifications and was also so happy and now I am going to watch it 😁

Josip Buretić

Bro is that Del Boy costume?

Paul John Jeffs

Touch of glass is one of my favourites from the grandad episodes 😆

Mark Rudd

Interesting (or not) on the later versions with the correct them tune. The theme tune on this is played whilst they are hustling for the 2 grand instead of pink floyd so you would have avoided that copyright

Jay Lo

S2 id imagine

Mark McKeown

When do the proper theme songs start?

Dave

Me old mucker, not fucker 😂 there's no language in this, which gave it it's appeal and is loved by young and old

Jason

Both men gave the statue a different name

Jason

I'd never seen this episode with the original theme tune before. I think when they dubbed the other theme tune on this episode, they also lost the sound of the statue smashing at the end so it's probably the first time I heard that too. Also, the version with the other theme tune usually replaces Pink Floyd's Money with a different track during the montage too.

Jeffrey44

Glad you enjoyed the episode. Don’t feel too bad about being duped (as Del Boy was) because we all were when we first saw this episode. Many (though not all) of the situations that you will see befall Del and Rodney in episodes to come, either happened to John Sullivan when he was growing up and working, or they happened to people that he knew, and to weave these situations into these episodes just shows you his genius for comedy writing. OFAH wasn’t John Sullivan’s first comedy show. That was “Citizen Smith,” about a young Marxist known as Wolfie Smith, who modelled himself on the urban guerrilla, Che Guevara, and tries to emulate his hero by becoming the self-proclaimed leader of the revolutionary Tooting Popular Front (who are made up of him and a few of his friends). Their goal in life is "Power to the People" and "Freedom for Tooting". Whilst he was writing OFAH, John Sullivan created another great comedy show, “Just Good Friends,” about two former lovers Vincent Pinner and Penny Warrender, who meet in a pub five years after he jilted her at the altar. Jess would really love this series. Another great comedy from John was “Dear John,” about a man who discovers his wife has left him for a friend. He is kicked out of his home, while still being expected to pay the mortgage, and forced to find lodgings. In desperation, he joins the 1-2-1 Singles Club and meets other people who have fared equally unfortunately in their romantic lives. All of these sitcoms are so different to each other yet all of them are so funny. Hopefully you’ll get around to seeing these shows at some point. This 3rd episode of OFAH is my favourite from the 1st season, but there is so much more wheeling and dealing from Del Boy to come that I can’t wait until Wednesday rolls round again to watch another episode with you both again.

Andrew Roberts

Same here. No matter how many times I've watched it on Dave tv, I just want the viewing experience as if for the first time again and Mike and Jess are definitely the best people with whom to do that.

Nathalie Grainger Bradbury

This came up on my notifications and I got a little rush of happiness. Yay, it's that time of the week again. So now: press play. :-)

Nathalie Grainger Bradbury

The Indian caste system is one of the oldest social hierarchies in the world, deeply embedded in the history, culture, and structure of Indian society. While it has undergone significant transformations over the centuries, its influence on everyday life remains profound, especially in rural areas and certain communities. At the very bottom, the Dalits (formerly called “Untouchables”), who were historically marginalized and assigned the most menial tasks.

Nix001

The best UK TV ever! And I'm still freaked by the theme song - my head is singing "Stick a Pony in me pocket - I'll fetch the suitcase from the van" When you (Jess & Mike) get to hear it, you'll know.

Karina Bailey

Do you mean series 2 after series 1? Or series 3 after series 2?

Richard Lees

You really need to start series 2 straight after series 2, it really starts to get in to the groove then.

David Spittlehouse

You can see why they were keen. £2,000 back then is about £10K now.

Static CentreHalf

I have seen every episode about 5 times but going on the journey with you both will be brill, I also watch along Still Game,, Darren from Scotland :) .... great work FRIENDS :)

Darren Purves

Hey Mike isa would have figured it out.

Craig Martin

Lol there is ONE clue ... and it's so subtle everyone misses it. They can't meet. Allegedly. Except at the start of the episode Vimal turns up in the carpark and they DO meet ... exactly what is not supposed to happen haha. But that's the only one in the piece. It's one of my favourite episodes :)

James Forrest

Hahaha. Let's make it happen 🤗

Josh Read

This was hilarious! Mike being that outraged while dressed as Del Boy was just 👌 *chef's kiss*

Emily

Dressing up as The Rock today! lol

Keatan Forrest

Oh God I love you guys, I really do!

DaveO

They met & communicated at the very start of the episode 🤣

Ben Dunning

Mike just needs a flatcap and he's got the Del Boy look down 😂

Tim

Smashed the outfit Mike 🤣

Ben Dunning

Great reaction guys..it was nearly cancelled after season 1 there's a couple of episodes where Del is a bit nasty...the public didn't really take to him....thankfully it was given a second season and Del became the lovable rogue will all grew to love..

Paul Liversage

Great outfit mike

Col Boro

Mike, there weren't any obvious clues they were being scammed. The Indian caste system is real so it makes sense. Del and Rodney were indeed 'done up like a couple of kippers'.

Fordy7169

This is the 'proper' and 'real' theme tune of series one. The repeats etc of series one you've watched all your life are dubbed with the series 2 onward music, so they're not proper or real at all.

Si

One of the best parts about thus episode is when Del says 'I just don't know how someone like vimmel can sleep at night'. When his whole entire daily business is conning people 😂

Toby

And the chair acts as delboys coat 🤣

Jay Lo

Poor Mike channelled Delboy this episode

Nathan Daly

Great to see Mike embracing Del Boy with his red t-shirt and the chain on the outside :) Bravo that man :) You guys are great :)

James Forrest

This is one of my favourite TV series ever, i have watched it a million times and still laugh! It's like sitting with a cup of tea on a rainy day! easy to watch, loveable characters, great storylines! OFAH is a British institution here. There will never be anything like it again! I envy you guys being able to watch it from fresh! There will be some words and phrases that you won't understand, they are so very British (more London), don't let that put you off! Enjoy every minute of it! and we are here along with you for the journey! P.S the outfit Mike, absolutely 42 carat diamond!

Dave

I don't think what they thought they were doing would have met any burden to bring a criminal charge for. I don't even think it was fraudulent

Jamie Derry

You just said you wanna watch again and see what you missed. That is the love of OFAH. we watch it over and over again especially when the proper theme tune is playing. Some reason it just makes it more wholesome. Peace out see you tomorrow

Mark Rudd

Jess gonna dress up like Grandad next week yeah?

Ste Rawlings

Look, he’s even got a del boy starter kit 😆

Mark Rudd

Love how excited Mike got about "done up like a kipper"

Ste Rawlings

A good episode but trust me the it gets so much better the further you get into each series.

Col

Good spot Mike with the done up like a kipper 😆

Mark Rudd

Its so strange seeing these episodes without the proper theme song! Even when you watch these episodes on TV these days they have real theme tune.

Stretch

Right. Just got to the end of the reaction and absolutely love how you both get it and enjoy it. You’ll keep seeing more and more. You’ll think the plot is going one way, and it takes you by surprise and goes a totally different way. The writer of this show was a talent. And he said most of the show was based off real stuff he’d seen and heard along his life. Can’t wait for the 3 biggest scenes to pop up. Won’t say what they are but you will be in for a real treat

Mark Rudd

Mike being dressed up for the part was such a cool suprise.

James

👀

RegenerationNationTV

No idea what you mean

RegenerationNationTV

We may miss the skip back every now and then, but 99.9 percent of pauses we do skip back.

RegenerationNationTV

The caste system I think was a thing in imperial India thats till had effects today

Lombard

you dress like del boy mike

L P

That was brilliant 😆😆😆 28 mins in and Mike realised he’s dressed as Del Boy 😆😆

Mark Rudd

Might be a good habit to skip back 5 seconds when pausing on OFAH. there are alot of jokes after the initial joke you will miss if you pause and don't skip back a little bit

Simon Westerman

I only just watched this one with the McKnights but happy to watch again

Jamie Derry

Mike with the Del Boy starter kit! Cushty........and the 'proper' theme tune you will LOVE!!

Matt Harwood

Proper Delboy Style

Nathan Daly

Can’t wait for the proper theme, not that awful one

Michael Oliver

Is the outfit intentional Mike? Very good. Jess could have dressed like Rodney. 🤣

Anthony Skelton

WHOOOO

Paul Archibald

peepshow, still game, ofah . you spoil us

mark

It is the best (although I only watch this one) 🤷‍♂️

Anthony Skelton

Thanks guys your the best!!

Matt Draper

Not for us! (The time)

Anthony Skelton

You start seeing more and more sticky situations that they keep getting in to. Later episodes , you’re in for a real treat. Some iconic moments from this show

Mark Rudd

Mike’s outfit oh that’s brilliant 😂😂

L M

Been waiting for this 😍😍
