That Jay’s dad in the warehouse?

John Warren

The main brewery in Swindon is Arkell’s 😉

Adam Druett

I had to do one of these "answer the question, 1) definitely 2) possibly 3) no 4) not at all" type things each year at my previous workplace. I used to answer one negatively, the next one positively, and just continue that. I think they got wise after the third year.

Ian Warren

I am new to your Patreon but not your channel…Just want to say thank you Mike and Jess…you guys make my day!

Stephanie Pedley

Loved the reaction. I've said it before, but it should be said again, easily the best reaction channel on the 'net.

Jamie

So if I'm worried I might lose my phone that makes me jealous?

Megatron

Jealousy = a fear of losing something you care for. Envy = a desire to possess something you do not have. It's such a simple distinction to learn, it constantly surprises me how often people describe someone as jealous when they mean envious.

OrdinaryDave

At the end. No spoilers.

Mat

That scene with Keith is notable because it's one of the few times Brent actually comes across as professional.

Captain Cardboard

Detectorists is (in my opinion) the best television series ever recorded. But I think the humour is maybe too subtly British for some. Like the anti seasickness pills Toni tries to give Lance are called "Herl-Ovadec" 😂 "Yes we do!!"

Simon Crockford

I can't wait for episode 5 and *THE* most iconic, meme-worthy scene ever. 😂

Simon Crockford

I was thinking the same thing haha

Brent Monaghan

Too much skin for the workplace! Haha - come to NZ that is pretty modest

SimonNZ

The fucking poem🤣.

Gary

Please watch the outtakes, they are hilarious. Also need derek reactions soooon 😍

Mark E

Mike, you need a collection of false 'taches in case of shaving accidents in the future.

Fordy7169

Spat laughing at Mike at about 20:10, amazing timing

Daz Parker

Could I make a recommendation for your lengthy list. Detectorists - written and performed by Mackenzie Crook (Gareth) If only to see a better side to him. I think this comedy lasted three seasons.

Jason Bonner

When you guys get to the end of this show you should definitely check out the outtakes/bloopers... the scene in this episode with Tim's appraisal broke the record I think

Scott Hughes

you not been to many pubs then, lol. There's always a tab open when i visit with my grandparents

Jamie Derry

I love seeing mikes pain, he literally can’t keep his eyes on the most uncomfortable and awkward moments, this is what makes the show such genius, keep up the great work guys.

Matthew Mansfield

Smashin!

Theloyalmuppet

This is my first time watching The Office and I absolutely love it

Rayne (Roxie)

RIP Ewan MacIntosh (Keith)

Gavlarr

you two are the best. Love ya both. The trilogy episodes after this season are good and the david brent film sequel I hope you watch after :)

Demceez

There are no tabs in pubs. You pay at the bar when you get your stuff.

Mat

Jays dad at 17:15 😂😂

Jamie Mccauley

Man, this show is still so funny after all this time 😂 Great stuff as always! I also wondered if I might add a music recommendation for sometime. Sabaton made a powerful song about the Christmas Truce, and seeing as you guys mentioned knowing about it I thought you might appreciate it 👍🏻 https://youtu.be/HPdHkHslFIU?si=f7OxmDKXWkzrnpYk

Steve with a beard

Those first two Hole LPs were proper classics, weren’t they?

Charlie

The new girl reminds me of Courtney love

Erica

Great reaction, as always. Love you two.

Leo

you guys should consider peep show. Another great show

jamestoni

I saw an interview with a lad with cerebral palsy in school and this actually happened to him recently and it was an actual fire. Luckily he was ok but he was terrified

Erica

Mackenzie Crook had to get married with that hairstyle 🤣

Jude

You absolutely nailed it with that comment, David just want to be liked.

Andrè

I love the US Office but this one is so much more real

Ducactus

Yeah the outtakes are hilarious.

Karl shields

The bloopers/outtakes from each season are very funny

Rob Brown

McKenzie Crook Is phenomenal. I had the DVDs when I was younger. The commentary by Ricky and Stephen points out all the brilliant stuff he does in the background. He WAS Gareth

iAmScott

Ooooh Jess has got a “recipe” for the hats. Love me. Love me. Pathetic

David Honour

Mike shocked at the lunchtime drink..... haha trust me that's pretty standard over here

Gem Lou

The majority of the outtakes for this season is from this episode. I hope you get to react to that at the end

Stewart Hainey

Yeah I find it interesting how much my perspective differs from theirs. I just see Neil as the typical office boot licker/fake. Maybe it’s working in an office for years that’s done that. Where’s Brent is a knob, but he’s still a harmless one, just wants to be everyone’s mate and wants everyone to find him funny, probably because he’s not got much else in his life.

DG

Yep, the outtakes are possibly funnier than the show

Dave Henshall

Jess’s laugh is outstanding 😂😂😂

DG

David is cringey and doesn't help himself but the Swindon lot are so, so antisocial and rude and make no effort whatsoever. They don't know David and could at least humour his attempts to build a rapport with them. He goes about it in a clumsy way but it's David I feel sorry for in this episode as they have all the conversational skills of a Chocolate Orange and a negative attitude to boot. (We pay for our drinks (and food) at the bar in the UK at most pubs, so there would have been no tab to pay.) David *was* out of order with Neil. Completely in the wrong there. But his well-intentioned team bonding lunch drink was met with mute, rude ignoramuses and it upset him - he took that upset out on Neil. Yes, by the by, he is threatened by Neil's effortless charisma but he was wound up when he had his little hissy fit and I can see why. Lying afterwards about what Neil actually said to him? Yes, he's a complete knob there. He isn't a psycho; he's just so desperate to be as effortlessly likeable as Neil, and when his poor attempts backfire, he doubles down as a way to shake off the humiliation and save face. He's more vain than he is narcissistic as I think, deep down, he has low self esteem. His incessant hunger for approbation confirms that for me. Of course, he'd *never* admit that though.

Ash Jeffries

As mean as it came across with leaving the woman in the wheelchair on the stairs, I believe that is what to actually do in tall buildings. I know in the college I went to, that was about 4 floors, and on the stairs there was a designated square on the stairs to leave disabled people. Then a firefighter or whatever would retrieve them. I guess , as mean as it may come across, it's to not slow people down as shown here. I know in a real emergency I was told at college by the head of health and safety that they had some kinda fancy chair that had like skis on that you can put people in to get them fast down the stairs. Of course here though it was used for comical effect to show Brent's character

Danny

You guys probably already noticed but one of the warehouse workers (Taffy) is Jay’s dad from The Inbetweeners, who despite being the most common sounding Englander ever, was actually born in New Mexico!

DG

nah. neil is an office muppet middle manager bollock

Super Hans

Theres 2 Christmas specials, a part 1 and part 2 sort of thing. And there is a pre pilot from the 90s which is like episode 1 but also lot different to the real episode 1 years later. Worth seeing, let's you see how far the show came. I can send you that. I used have it up on YouTube

Danny

As much as I have enjoyed the US Office during a few watch throughs. They handled the inappropriate aspect well. But the level of cringe that this delivers is truly incomparable. The way they make you actually feel uncomfortable in your own skin at times is brilliant. Comedy maybe shouldn't make you feel like you need to literally get it off you. Like being swarmed by bugs. 🤣

Death Lego

yup! i'm not 100% but i think it started being normalized in the UK "modern professional culture" from politics.... there's certain pubs in london where you can go at lunch/early afternoon - after big gov announcements - and you can very predictably expect to see the gov officials there celebrating the announcements with a midday drink!

James West

Loved the intro, about the hats etc, so chirpy, you guys are great

na plz

👌

Adam G

Lunchtime drinks aren't that uncommon in the UK. Specially in the early 2000s. My understanding is the US doesn't really do this.

Zr0w3n

Can you forget about everything else and just react to one of these every day please? a) Very much so b) to some extent c) not at all d) dont know

mwdoom

You don’t have a tab in the UK (except in rare circumstances) you pay for everything up front

Kieran B

Too much skin for the workplace definitely highlights a cultural difference, they’re definitely leaning that way for her character but I don’t think what’s she’s wearing would be seen as out of place here; you have to remember that US culture has much more of a puritan influence with that sort of thing, this office could very much be a real office in every way - especially in 1999/2000; there’s nothing really that makes it stand out as artificial or made for TV, which is why it was so effective. It was plausibly a documentary about a real office, obviously Keith and Gareth push that a bit as characters but as you said they’re both people we know

Kieran B

Keith has the right approach to pointless appraisals: just stonewall them until they leave you alone. I too am attached to the intro. I grew up near Slough and was a kid when this series aired so this is my Slough, all those buildings and the big roundabout and the yellow Bee Line buses like the one coming out of the bus station were familiar places and things for me and they’re all gone now. One of my friends is of the view that the bus station should’ve been designated a heritage asset and should never have been demolished.

Charlie

A lunch time drink at the pub at this time was still not uncommon although it was starting to go, but before this it was absolutely the norm. It is still a thing now occasionally, we’re allowed 1 pint / glass of wine if it’s someone’s birthday or they’re leaving or something. I tend not to though but we always have a pub lunch on those occasions.

Kieran B

Who does the RegenerationNation TV appraisals?

Thomas

Dawn isn’t a product in the UK but I bet that’s how Pam got her name in the US production

Kieran B

Mike you NEED to listen to the David Brent album. It's hilarious, and the songs are brilliant. With different lyrics some of them could be hit songs.

Steve Small

It's James Bond and Miss Moneypenyy. Still rocking the hats 🤗

Josh Read

'Ooh love me' is still a classic line 20 years later!

bobby g

You need to watch the outtakes when you’ve finished the series - and please watch the specials straight after s2 if you can 🙏

Kieran B

My productivity has gone through the floor since I signed up to these.

Static CentreHalf

They're awesome

Steve Small

Great reaction as always and Rip Keith.. such a funny character/actor.

Andy Gore

We don't have tabs in pubs, just in restaurants. You pay when you order. Also, there's no table service for drinks. You go to the bar, ask for a pint of something. Wait for it to be poured. Pay. Take it back to your table.

Steve Small

The thing with Tim and Dawn is that with the format they really are being filmed by a documentary crew and that impacts how both of them behave and why they’re so hesitant - whereas with the US Office although that was theoretically the case, it really wasn’t a factor the vast majority of the time so they all behave like sitcom characters. And that’s not a dig at it, they’re just very different shows

Kieran B

Lose the hats it's not a good look 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Dango247

It's great watching these back through your eyes, it reminds me how funny I found the show first time I saw it years ago.. although the cringe level never gets less intense. That poem.

James Aston

I think Brent is misunderstood and people don't give him a chance. In the pub he's trying. They are being complete twats, though. They are making no effort to help him out. He's having to think of things to say so they aren't all sat in silence and they aren't even pretending to be polite. The fact he's just bought them all a drink shows he's trying, not one of them even said thank you. That Swindon lot are little slugs.

Steve Small

You're completely right about the US characters. They're like caricatures. Funny, and great characters, but not believable.

Steve Small

Hehe Jess I like the reference to Ryan George who does Pitch Meeting on YouTube 🙂

Rob G

The way he tries to go out of his way to not be racist is the funniest part. Making the connection between black people and smoking weed, saying his favourite actor is a black guy to get accepted. It's top quality writing.

Keg

Cunk AND the Office!! Today has been a good day!!

Sinclair Brechin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Superb. Last hour at work sorted.

Paul Archibald

What are the options?

Thomas

Get in!
