Still Game - S2E9 & S3E1 Double Feature

Comments

Up until 5 days ago, I hadn't watched a single second of this show. What a shame I have deprived myself of exilence. It'd brilliant 👏 and it's a privilege to watch it for first time witn awsome people like you guys ❤️

Josh Read

Missing the Still Game updates 😔

Ross Miller

Jane McCarry (Isa) and Mark Cox (Tam) aren’t a couple in real life, just really good friends - They met at drama school and work a lot together still ☺️

Carly

sadly Jacks real son died at 12 and he kind of dropped acting and writing for a while this and the main cast had a fallen out is the reason their is a big gap between the later seasons.

steven bell

A friend recommended this about 5 years ago...watched & thought, pretty good. Re-watching, with you two...making me realise how good it is.

Karl Devereux

Just so you know, McVities (who make Hobnobs) is pronounced McVitties as if it’s got a double T in it. The factory is about 5 miles from where I live. The smell coming from the factory as you drive past is amazing! 🤤 xx

Emma Edwards

Half thought Jess was gonna turn Scottish again when Harry showed up. After last time with the "aw he's full of shite" line.

SteJo

The tour guide in the lift is victors real brother 🤣

Ally Gallacher

Plates of meat = feet, so feet are called plates. Boat race is face so a face is a boat. You could hear Danny Dyer saying about Susie Dent on Countdown (8 out of 10 Cats version) 'Look at her lovely boat.' Adam and Eve = believe, but people do say, 'Would you Adam and Eve it?' rather than just the Adam part, but to keep what you want to say secret, you would just say the Adam part. The Micky Flanagan that I think you reacted to when he was talking about the man walking into the pub with an obvious wig on has two examples of slang when he says 'Oh, look at his syrup will ya?' Syrup of figs =wigs. So a wig is a syrup. He also says, 'And we're all colluding in the fact that he's still got a Barnet.' Barnet is a town in North London which has a touring fair come once a year and Barnet Fair = hair. I'll stop now, but there are hundreds of these and if you learned some, you could speak in code!

Tonia Laws

Brilliant reaction as ever. Just to say about Cockney rhyming slang, I lived some of my childhood in the East End of London and we were brought up with quite a bit of rhyming slang that we still use today. The point of it was that there is a rhyming couplet in the sentence and ONE of the words rhymes with what you want to say, but you use the other word that the rhyming word goes with so that no-one has the slightest clue what you're saying. I think it was used in the war so there could be secret communication. I'll give you some examples which will be easier to understand. Apples and pears are stairs, but you would never say the pears part because someone could guess that it rhymes with stairs, so you would just say, 'I'm going up the apples now.' Whistle and flute is suit, but you would never say the flute part because again, someone could possibly guess what it rhymes with so a suit is just called a whistle. So you could say, 'I'm going up the apples to put on my whistle.' Unless you know the slang, you'd be lost. My Dad always used to say, 'Give us a butchers,' when he wanted to look at something..........Butchers hook = look. Our whole family always says give us a butchers, when we want to look at something and it sounds completely normal to us!

Tonia Laws

yeah the original is much better for sure!

TheHigh

I think ‘meemaw’ is actually a term of endearment for grandma in the southern states. Sheldon is from Texas and I’ve seen other shows set in the south where they’ve used that term for a grandma.

Emma Edwards

I love this show. Never seen it before so I’m watching for the first time with you guys. Potential romance on the cards for Winston and Isa and I’m here for it! It’s like Ross and Rachel all over again 😂 x

Emma Edwards

okay so in the uk we have soap operas i dont know if u have heard of them but the most famous is called eastenders and they use rhyming slang a lot in it infact an actor who was in eastenders (danny dyer) is known for speaking almost fully in rhyming sland however the point of my long explantation is that there was a character played by the iconic dame barbara windsor called peggy mitchell and until she died i didnt know peggy was short for margaret

Jackdeel

Cat and mouse is the cockney term for house

Aye Ready

Speaking of the nicknames etc. The one that’s always confused me is people with the name Hugh, get called Shug 😆.

Francis 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

you will find most shortened versions of names originate from young children finding it hard to say the name properly, ie bob instead of robert and dick instead of rick for richard, case in point is my grand daughter calls me gandad or in the case of the big bang theory, Sheldon calls his grandmother meemaw. that propbaly came from hearing his mother say I'll ask me ma. Must admit i used to love hearing the grandkids argue with their parents that I was not their dad but gandad. when theywere very young.

Sibbo

That was quite nostalgic. I remember going to Toronto in 1996. I went up the CN Tower and refused to stand on the glass floor. Went to Niagara Falls on the same trip, it’s pretty spectacular.

Julian T

I need to find those shot glasses

Julian T

Willie Dick the dug?! If so, I'm cancelling the pet-sitting.

Dan G, Leicester

When Jess says at the end of the credits on the second episode “I hope they never change that”, is she referring to the tune? Interesting to note that this wasn’t the original broadcast theme tune for the show. It’s never been explained why they had to change it, but I think it had something to do with not having the full rights to use it. I still prefer the original theme, but I do like this one too. Here’s the original. It’s still broadcast using this tune I think, and also on bbc iPlayer too. It’s a weird situation!! https://youtu.be/eJjTzyTYzpg?si=1WF6moUhEdENzfrO

Davee-man

love the double feature , the office specials is gunna need the same love that's for sure.

TheHigh

AHHH! Best explanation ever. I thought it was the rhyming part. I was just unconfused...

FRASBO .

I think the shirts Jess speaks of (1hr 22) came from a certain program you are watching. I'll leave it at that...

FRASBO .

Here is how cockney rhyming slang works. Ruby Murray rhymes with Curry. So the slang for a curry is a Ruby. Dog and bone rhymes with phone, so the slang for phone is dog. Barney Rumble rhymes with trouble, so the slang for trouble is Barney. You take a common sentence or phrase that rhymes with something else and use the non-rhyming part.

Twiska Brand

👍👍

TheHigh

Bam bam Bigelow, ha ha class, a throwback

BrizeeB

"Mike, go to the Geezer (Fridge Freezer) and grab me a Pot & Pan (Can), please, My Turtle Dove. (Love)"

FRASBO .

Dug's are not to be confused with Dog's. We also have Dog's in Scotland.

FRASBO .

Don’t worry about saying season instead of series. I actually prefer to say season myself.

Julian T

You made me take a 1.5 hour lunch break. I’ll tell my boss it was your fault.

Julian T

This show is like the opposite of a drama with a light moment, it's a comedy with a real moment that punches you in the feelings. What Mike is talking about with the slang is just abbreviated cockney, so 'boat race' would be face but nobody says the whole thing, so when you're talking about someone's face you just say 'boat'. I'm Richard and named after my uncle Richard, when I was a wee un they started calling him Dick to save the confusion.

Terrahawk

If you think Matthew is a bad name for a Dog.... wait until later seasons !

Lauren Weir

not a spoiler but if you're waiting for a Meena face reveal , you will be waiting a LONGGGG time

Lauren Weir

Love how Mike and Jess are basically Scottish now thanks to Still Game and Kevin Bridges !

Lauren Weir

Jack's acting at the sad part is so good :)

Darren Purves

Been waiting for this! <3

NameJeff

The Hoaliday episode is one of the most endearing episodes they have. Loving every second of this and am very glad you guys are too!

Dan Padgett

Phone - dog and bone = dog. I was on the dog for ages!

SimonNZ

Just six days until The Office. 👍🏼

Thomas

I had a cousin called Willie Dick, no joke

Louise Miller

Favourite ever tv show! Grant Fraser

Ruby Murray, Curry

Jamie

A ruby

Jamie

Both are in my top 5 episodes

Dylan Mc

Have watched every episode over a hundred times and you guys are breaking me like the first time. My heed is bursting with thoughts of all the great series, episodes and moments still to come. Keeps getting better and better and that's the beauty of it

Malcom Kumar

Glad you finally grasped the accent now :)

Ryan Lynch

Cockney rhyming slang example, going down the apples and pears(stairs) 🤣

Nichole Hutchison

So cockney rhyming slang for stairs is "apples and pears", but cockneys often use the non rhyming word only in a phrase, eg " I'm just going up the stairs" becomes I'm just going up the apples ". !!😂.

South Coast Rich

Aww sorry for swearing but they were effin brilliant episodes! Great end to the series and the night! Thanking you! Look forward to the office now😊 glad to see my message reminded you of victor being in wolverine and deadpool😉

Theloyalmuppet

It's crazy how they can make you go from tears of laughter to reap tears within minutes haha, great reaction as always guys

Russell Aird

Still games the only show that can have tears runnin doon yer cheek one minute then doon yer leg the next

ElDubz420

Just to make you aware, the CN tower guide in the elevator was actually Greg Hemphills brother 🙂

Coleyman

Great reaction guys

Thomas Hillier

If you love the heart of this show then you definitely need to react to Only Fools and Horses.

JokerDanny

YAAAAS, ya beautiful dancing bears! Commence watching...

Matthew

If I don't make work tomorrow I blame you 2 😂

AJ McMahon

YESSSS!!! LETS JUST CONTINUE ON WITH SEASON 3 ANYWAY <3

Chrono_Punk

No way! One of my favorite movies. I'll have to go have another watch and look for him

RegenerationNationTV

They all show up in odd places. If memory serves me, Ford Kiernan (Jack) was in Gangs Of New York.

Kenneth Swan

You're all good Toby. These two episodes are basically one long episode. We were asked to react to them together as they are so closely tied together. When we get requests like that we do our best to make it happen. The Office is back next Tuesday

RegenerationNationTV

These were probably my 2 favourite episodes cuz both were so funny in their own right🤣😁 love living in Scotland

Keeza🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Fairly new here so this has probably been asked before, and I haven’t seen still game so please be nice if it’s a silly question😂 How come it’s the end of one season and the start of another? I thought shows rotated after each season but if that’s different for different shows that’s not a complaint watch what you enjoy!

Toby Lewis

I'm just here to ruin your sleep schedule 😉

RegenerationNationTV

Well that’s me up to 1am now 🤣

Christopher Dewar

You beautiful people. Thank you for listening to the requests for a double feature <3 Thank you.

Athan Immortal

Yes just when I needed something to watch..
