Up until 5 days ago, I hadn't watched a single second of this show. What a shame I have deprived myself of exilence. It'd brilliant 👏 and it's a privilege to watch it for first time witn awsome people like you guys ❤️

2025-07-28 14:41:22 +0000 UTCJane McCarry (Isa) and Mark Cox (Tam) aren’t a couple in real life, just really good friends - They met at drama school and work a lot together still ☺️

2025-06-25 22:01:22 +0000 UTCsadly Jacks real son died at 12 and he kind of dropped acting and writing for a while this and the main cast had a fallen out is the reason their is a big gap between the later seasons.

2025-06-14 14:04:58 +0000 UTCA friend recommended this about 5 years ago...watched & thought, pretty good. Re-watching, with you two...making me realise how good it is.

2025-06-13 15:13:18 +0000 UTCJust so you know, McVities (who make Hobnobs) is pronounced McVitties as if it’s got a double T in it. The factory is about 5 miles from where I live. The smell coming from the factory as you drive past is amazing! 🤤 xx

2025-06-12 02:19:31 +0000 UTCPlates of meat = feet, so feet are called plates. Boat race is face so a face is a boat. You could hear Danny Dyer saying about Susie Dent on Countdown (8 out of 10 Cats version) 'Look at her lovely boat.' Adam and Eve = believe, but people do say, 'Would you Adam and Eve it?' rather than just the Adam part, but to keep what you want to say secret, you would just say the Adam part. The Micky Flanagan that I think you reacted to when he was talking about the man walking into the pub with an obvious wig on has two examples of slang when he says 'Oh, look at his syrup will ya?' Syrup of figs =wigs. So a wig is a syrup. He also says, 'And we're all colluding in the fact that he's still got a Barnet.' Barnet is a town in North London which has a touring fair come once a year and Barnet Fair = hair. I'll stop now, but there are hundreds of these and if you learned some, you could speak in code!

2025-06-11 21:25:29 +0000 UTCBrilliant reaction as ever. Just to say about Cockney rhyming slang, I lived some of my childhood in the East End of London and we were brought up with quite a bit of rhyming slang that we still use today. The point of it was that there is a rhyming couplet in the sentence and ONE of the words rhymes with what you want to say, but you use the other word that the rhyming word goes with so that no-one has the slightest clue what you're saying. I think it was used in the war so there could be secret communication. I'll give you some examples which will be easier to understand. Apples and pears are stairs, but you would never say the pears part because someone could guess that it rhymes with stairs, so you would just say, 'I'm going up the apples now.' Whistle and flute is suit, but you would never say the flute part because again, someone could possibly guess what it rhymes with so a suit is just called a whistle. So you could say, 'I'm going up the apples to put on my whistle.' Unless you know the slang, you'd be lost. My Dad always used to say, 'Give us a butchers,' when he wanted to look at something..........Butchers hook = look. Our whole family always says give us a butchers, when we want to look at something and it sounds completely normal to us!

2025-06-11 18:21:34 +0000 UTCI think ‘meemaw’ is actually a term of endearment for grandma in the southern states. Sheldon is from Texas and I’ve seen other shows set in the south where they’ve used that term for a grandma.

2025-06-11 17:53:06 +0000 UTCI love this show. Never seen it before so I’m watching for the first time with you guys. Potential romance on the cards for Winston and Isa and I’m here for it! It’s like Ross and Rachel all over again 😂 x

2025-06-11 17:48:00 +0000 UTCokay so in the uk we have soap operas i dont know if u have heard of them but the most famous is called eastenders and they use rhyming slang a lot in it infact an actor who was in eastenders (danny dyer) is known for speaking almost fully in rhyming sland however the point of my long explantation is that there was a character played by the iconic dame barbara windsor called peggy mitchell and until she died i didnt know peggy was short for margaret

2025-06-11 16:48:48 +0000 UTCSpeaking of the nicknames etc. The one that’s always confused me is people with the name Hugh, get called Shug 😆.
Francis 🏴
2025-06-11 16:41:56 +0000 UTCyou will find most shortened versions of names originate from young children finding it hard to say the name properly, ie bob instead of robert and dick instead of rick for richard, case in point is my grand daughter calls me gandad or in the case of the big bang theory, Sheldon calls his grandmother meemaw. that propbaly came from hearing his mother say I'll ask me ma. Must admit i used to love hearing the grandkids argue with their parents that I was not their dad but gandad. when theywere very young.

2025-06-11 16:04:14 +0000 UTCThat was quite nostalgic. I remember going to Toronto in 1996. I went up the CN Tower and refused to stand on the glass floor. Went to Niagara Falls on the same trip, it’s pretty spectacular.

2025-06-11 13:57:00 +0000 UTCWhen Jess says at the end of the credits on the second episode “I hope they never change that”, is she referring to the tune? Interesting to note that this wasn’t the original broadcast theme tune for the show. It’s never been explained why they had to change it, but I think it had something to do with not having the full rights to use it. I still prefer the original theme, but I do like this one too. Here’s the original. It’s still broadcast using this tune I think, and also on bbc iPlayer too. It’s a weird situation!! https://youtu.be/eJjTzyTYzpg?si=1WF6moUhEdENzfrO

2025-06-11 13:27:22 +0000 UTCAHHH! Best explanation ever. I thought it was the rhyming part. I was just unconfused...
FRASBO .
2025-06-11 13:01:36 +0000 UTCI think the shirts Jess speaks of (1hr 22) came from a certain program you are watching. I'll leave it at that...

2025-06-11 12:58:55 +0000 UTCHere is how cockney rhyming slang works. Ruby Murray rhymes with Curry. So the slang for a curry is a Ruby. Dog and bone rhymes with phone, so the slang for phone is dog. Barney Rumble rhymes with trouble, so the slang for trouble is Barney. You take a common sentence or phrase that rhymes with something else and use the non-rhyming part.

2025-06-11 12:02:29 +0000 UTCThis show is like the opposite of a drama with a light moment, it's a comedy with a real moment that punches you in the feelings. What Mike is talking about with the slang is just abbreviated cockney, so 'boat race' would be face but nobody says the whole thing, so when you're talking about someone's face you just say 'boat'. I'm Richard and named after my uncle Richard, when I was a wee un they started calling him Dick to save the confusion.

2025-06-11 00:44:46 +0000 UTCCockney rhyming slang example, going down the apples and pears(stairs) 🤣
Nichole Hutchison
2025-06-11 00:41:16 +0000 UTCSo cockney rhyming slang for stairs is "apples and pears", but cockneys often use the non rhyming word only in a phrase, eg " I'm just going up the stairs" becomes I'm just going up the apples ". !!😂.
