They were more honest so the guests thought he was really genuine; whereas these went abit too much over the top at times… still funny though. Sacha is very clever, I believe they used to tell the guests he was doing a Children’s TV Show, and they purposely used the name Ali due to it’s religious connotations, as they thought this would make the guests less likely to question him

2025-05-13 18:16:41 +0000 UTCSacha stays in character the whole time and the interviewees are told that it's a serious interview but that the interviewer is not very bright. Furthermore, the broadcast interviews are heavily edited down, as Sacha will interview them for an hour or so and mostly ask sensible questions, but will then scatter a few absurd questions throughout. He does this so that the interviewee doesn't realise that they're being setup.

I'd forgotten how funny some of them were 😂 I believe Jess is right - Sacha stays in character the whole time that the interviewee is there, even when the cameras aren't rolling. As another poster said, the interviewee was probably told they were going to be interviewed by a British 'youth TV' presenter. I seem to recall most of the interviews from the second series of Da Ali G Show being with American public figures, as the British ones already knew it was a set-up by then.

It's a metaphor revolving around leading a donkey where you want it to go, whilst sitting on its back; you hold out a stick, with a carrot attached to it by string and the donkey keeps walking forward, in an attempt to eat the carrot.
